In The Abyss As A Toon Character

Chapter 38: Chapter 33 It's just a burning memory

The atmosphere was heavy, carrying an uncanny feeling of displacement. He tried to recall how he had arrived here, but the memories slipped through his mental fingers, and the fact that everyone stared at him added more weight to his disorientation.

An impulsive thought crossed his mind. He didn't know why, but for some reason, he wanted to tell a joke to lessen the tension, maybe as self-reassurance or maybe to make everyone feel better.

Yet he decided to ask another thing which he barely knew why. With confusion and chaos painting his face, he asked, "Wasn't I dead?"

A robotic voice began speaking, No, you didn't die, but your condition was critical." The robot had a slander figure imitating a woman's body to a certain extent, which you could easily deduce by the color palette of pink and white with some turquoise tones in her design.

Yet he felt a Deja vu as if he had met the robot before. Perhaps her design is common?

A realization dawned. "Something feels wrong." The room, the people, the circumstances. Everything felt like a puzzle with missing pieces, leaving him with an unexplainable sense of isolation.

He tried to put together as many keywords as he could, but he was barely able to. Wait... Condition? Was he damaged? Of course, he was damaged. That was because he...'

Eh...

Something inside him felt 'omitted' as if something was amiss. He couldn't describe what it was.

When did I damage myself? They feel awfully familiar but, at the same time, strangers... He questioned internally, attempting to solve the enigma.

'Wait, what am I even saying...' Confusion clouded his thoughts as he struggled to harmonize the conflicting situation.

For some reason, he believed that he knew them, but it didn't make sense. He should know their names. The more he pondered, the more it felt like a lucid dream from years ago.

Baffled by the situation, he turned to the nearest person he could see and confusedly asked, "Sword guy where are we?"

Perplexed about what he said, The swordsman replied, "Sword guy?"

Did I offend him or something? Thought in his mind before continuing,

"Just answer me, I always..." Mid-sentence, a profound realization struck him.

Always...

Since when was always...

Such a simple question liberated a storm inside him. He furrowed his brows, With his gaze wandering around the room, immersing in the unfamiliar details this had.

He muttered under his breath, "I can't remember..."

An invisible barrier blocked the path to his past. Dante's hands gradually reached his head, slowly muttering, "Sword guy, I have a problem. I think I have memory problems. I-I..."

The faint moment of tranquility it fleetingly started to vanish, interrupted by a rain of questions.

Hands... Wait, I don't have hands. I have hooves. Am I an animal? How do I know what an animal is? Was I a human? OF COURSE, I WAS A HUMAN!

A sense of calm enveloped him initially as if his mind were protecting him from the harsh truth. But as he explored his consciousness, the facade broke, and his stability began to dim.

The faint voice of someone asking, "You can't remember?" distorted as my world kept getting smaller and smaller. Everything stopped moving except for the rhythmic pattern of my increasing breathing.

He had been calm before because he hadn't fully comprehended the extremity of the situation.

As if he regained the notion of the concepts, his mind began understanding everything. Mere seconds ago, he was like a kid barely caring about the future or past.

"I-" He couldn't process words, managing to mutter only some incoherent babbling.

The shock didn't hit him immediately, as if someone told you that a star exploded millions of miles away, but then he told you that it would create a chain reaction that would destroy our planet.

Not knowing anything helped him keep his calm, but learning the implications consumed him.

The Player tried to keep his head cool, but the more he thought it, the worse it got

But out of all the questions that swarmed his mind, one outshone every single other.

"WHO AM I?!" Everyone looked at me. I couldn't even decipher what their faces showed. My grip upon reality was shattering. Their facial features began to disappear.

He tried to remember useless and tiny details to help him connect the dots, but it was like trying to catch smoke with bare hands.

Dante's mind started to feel a burning memory. The more time passed, the more the flickering memories came back, but somehow, deep inside, he knew that some memories had been permanently lost.

For better or for worse, the ones that got erased were the ones from his youth. His mother and father's face turned into a white canvas. The oblivion reclaimed those fragments as part of its embrace.

A blue screen popped in front of him. "As a consequence of abusing your ######## You received a punishment."

What?!

What did I do? What the heck did my past me? The confused Player wondered what his past self had done. Has he done something so heinous and blasphemous that he angered someone?

He looked at everyone. From what he could deduce, these would be his friends. If so, he couldn't leave them without telling them what he was about to do, "Could everyone give me some time alone, I need to know what I don't know that I don't know, "

The swordsman began explaining the system's function, and I quickly stopped him. "I didn't lose all my memories, If not probably I won't be able to understand you." I awkwardly laughed, trying to reassure them. With a joking tone, I said, "Worry not, I'm not a danger to society..."

I think... I'm not good with jokes... I try to settle the mood, "Ah! Right, we're in another place that isn't Earth." my soft laughter slowly faded, giving them a smile of reassurance before leaving the place.

Mindlessly walking for some minutes, I ended up in a recreation place. I entered it, and the blue page from before opened again, offering various options to choose from. Despite the choices, I searched for something related to cities from the 2000s.

His hooves pressed the option, being instantly teleported to a city that replicated multiple cultures from his Earth. Shiny neon signs, towering buildings, and an eerie, creepy feeling of being alone in a place that should be crowded greeted him.

The amnesic Player looked around, his trembling eyes never stopping. A melancholic and alien sensation shivered through him.

The more he remembered, the more he understood what he had lost. Recent memories poured in, but the relentless pull of the void deteriorated them with his grip, making him forget.

He spread his wings, searching for something that didn't exist. Flying higher, he reached the tallest tower, being barely able to see the ground.

The surroundings lost their colors, becoming monochromatic as he stared into nothingness.
