Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 104

Could the outcome have been different if I had given it my all?

If, like other wizards, I had summoned my mana during the preparation time and breathed fire…

Regret washed over me, and pointless assumptions swirled in my mind.

I stepped down from the ring and numbly spread my hands. The blurry images of countless wizards who had fallen before a small girl flickered past.

I must have been overconfident.

*

A week had passed since the competition. Originally, I had planned to leave the Mage Tower the moment the competition ended, but I had been unable to do so.

I needed time. To fully internalize what I had experienced then.

During the past week, I had reduced my sleeping hours to dedicate myself to magical research.

“Hah…”

Attempt number hundreds.

A deep breath released thick starlight mana into the air. The starlight mana began to swirl around with my gestures.

Manifestation of the Inner World

The principle of the magic became clear instantly. Seizing the space with mana and summoning my inner world upon it. Of course, that was only the beginning. The spell required immense mental concentration and a vast amount of mana to maintain that summoned world.

A profound sense of regret lingered. If I had experienced the magic when my physical body transcended human, revealing traces of a dragon, I would have learned much more. However, this was the price of my arrogance. I sealed my lips and focused on the inner world.

The beginning was a single light that illuminated the darkness. A sparkling little star contained a narrative of its own, forming another world.

Another star rose above the darkened space. Thus, the birth of stars continued. From dozens to hundreds, and then thousands.

As the number of stars became uncountable, they began to flow like a river, and distinct rings of fire and ice formed. Two slowly rotating rings began to gather the disorderly flowing stars into one place.

At that moment, when a clear image had formed, I began to manifest the world I was witnessing into the outside. For everything to have substance, belief was essential. The belief that the world truly lived and breathed.

The memories of my past life were both a blessing and a curse. Through the recollections of countless worlds made of lines, I was able to build my current inner world. Thus, I understood that every world within the sparkling stars was a mere fiction created by imagination.

Even though I had directly implemented the imagined magic, the awareness did not dissipate. Memories inscribed in my soul beyond the world held me back.

As a result, the tower built on faith began to crumble. This inevitably signified the failure of the magic. The sparkling stars and the dark space faded indistinctly.

“Ah…”

A sigh of disappointment escaped my lips. After the failure of the magic, the remaining mana only dimly reflected the inner world I possessed.

Thus, I took another step forward. It might be a step forward, or perhaps a stagnant one. It could even be a step backward. However, I felt no disappointment. I knew that my talent would eventually complete this magic.

I began to rebuild the toppled tower of faith. It felt as if the brain in my head was burning white hot. Continued stimulation of mana made the blood in my body boil, resulting in the manifestation of a dragon’s form.

Simultaneously, the arrogance of the dragon began to take root within me. I merely needed to solidify my faith even more through this.

What does it matter if it’s a fictional world? If I believe it to be true, it will become reality.

*

Continuous failures and repetitions filled the room with fragmented mana sparkling like stardust. It felt as though I was drifting through a cosmic void.

The concept of time had vanished, leaving me uncertain of how much had passed since then. All I knew was that my body had reached its limit.

Once more, I tried again.

The circle of my heart spun rapidly, adding acceleration to its slow beats. As the once-cold blood began to boil and breathe life into the star losing its shine, a small realization dawned upon me.

If I can’t summon everything, can’t I just summon part of it?

Pieces of broken stars began to gather behind me. When the traces of repeated failures in mana received new light, a second circle emerged behind me.

Kiiing!

The moment the external circle resonated with the internal circle, the ground underfoot began to darken. As the light hidden in darkness revealed itself, the sparkling stars began to fill the blackened space of the room.

Brief Manifestation of the Inner World

The Birth of Stars

I looked around blankly. The only land I could step on was a small piece floating in the black void. The dozens of stars slowly drifting in the darkened space were another world I had summoned.

A tremendous sense of omnipotence enveloped my entire body. Since this space was under my control, I realized that everything I imagined could become a reality.

From the birth of stars…

To the end of stars.

As I spread my arms to the sides, one of the stars rotating beside me burst into white particles and began to be reborn anew on the opposite side.

At that moment, the world I had summoned began to rapidly collapse. It was due to deteriorating condition, lack of mana, and a multitude of overlapping issues.

Through the crumbling starlight, countless shadows of supreme beings scattered.

*

“Really leaving…?”

I nodded at Rain’s question as I climbed onto Nightmare’s back. Although it had been a while since I rode, I managed to find my seat gracefully.

“Can’t you stay a bit longer…?”

“I’ll return later.”

“This is a two-year assignment, right…? You plan to fulfill it all before returning…”

“Mhm.”

Rain looked up at me with a sullen expression. Thanks to Nightmare’s height, I was able to look down at her.

“Aren’t you disappointed?”

I nodded and gazed into Haiven’s eyes. The question referred to my inability to learn the desired magic due to failing the competition.

They said Haiven’s eyes mimicked those of a dragon. A magic that altered one’s perspective of the world.

I raised my right hand and rubbed my eyes. If it was merely a mimicry, it was magic I didn’t need. Having spent a long time cloaked in the form of a dragon while studying magic, I had come to know that one day, my eyes would surpass Haiven’s.

“If you’re thinking of stopping by your hometown, head to the Floating Dock.”

“The Floating Dock…?”

I cocked my head at Haiven’s sudden remark. I had never once mentioned my hometown to him, not even to the close Rain.

“Were you thinking of crossing over another way?”

“Cross over? Where to?”

Haiven frowned at my question and returned the inquiry to me.

“Where else? To the Blue Veil you crossed over from.”

A strange silence enveloped us. It seemed Haiven had some odd misunderstanding. Upon glancing at Rain beside me, her reaction was no different.

I tried to recall blurry memories. The eastern end. The place known as Blue Veil was a mysterious sea shrouded in thick fog where the ships that ventured out in search of exploration either never returned or completely vanished.

Why did Haiven mention Blue Veil? What lies beyond it? I slowly nodded, observing the expressions of the two.

“Just in case, I brought something with me. If there are any problems, you can simply show that letter to your parents.”

“Letter…? Do you know my parents?”

Receiving the luxurious envelope Haiven handed me, I asked back. Haiven then spoke to me with a strange smile.

“A beastman wrapped in the form of a dragon is quite rare.”

“Beastman…”

“Don’t worry. If you present that letter, they’ll let you go easily.”

Generally speaking, the information about Blue Veil that can be obtained is very limited. There haven’t been adventurers who ventured into that sea and returned, hence there was no information relayed.

However, it seemed that both Haiven and Rain had knowledge of what lay beyond. I swallowed dryly. The unknown world that I had initially postponed due to being unable to go was now rapidly approaching me. This was undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Where exactly is this Floating Dock?”

Fragmented information began to swirl in my mind. I clutched my pounding heart and asked Haiven.

“Rain.”

“Yes! Are you asking me to guide you to the magic circle?”

Nodding to Rain’s question, Haiven responded, and I was then led by Rain as I exited the Tower of Dawn. She guided me to a secluded part of the forest, outside the walls surrounding the Mage Tower.

After walking along a narrow forest path for a while, the view opened up, revealing a wide space.

A massive stone slab, utterly out of place with the lush forest, was deeply embedded in the ground. Engraved upon the stone slab was a gigantic magic circle, and the wizards standing around it looked poised for action.

“Are you planning to use the magic circle?”

A wizard standing near the magic circle asked. Rain nodded and answered.

“Yes.”

“How many people?”

“One horse and one girl.”

“Hmm… That doesn’t sound like the right amount for just one horse…”

Upon Rain’s words, the wizard glanced back and forth between us and Nightmare, letting out a small grunt. After a moment, he nodded and spoke.

“Follow me. We need to hurry to match the departure time of the airship.”

I turned to look at Rain. She nodded at my gaze and gestured toward the magic circle, as if to tell me to climb up there.

I felt a bit uneasy, but there was no reason not to comply. I tugged at Nightmare’s bridle and headed toward the magic circle.

Then, several wizards rushed out from outside the magic circle and began to manipulate mana.

“Right after the teleportation, you may experience a bit of dizziness. It’s a temporary phenomenon, so there’s no need to worry too much…”

The moment the magic circle reacted to the flow of mana, the wizard’s words began to stretch out. It felt as if the very fabric of space was twisting. It was the teleportation magic that Haiven had used.

Paaaat-!

In the blink of an eye, brilliant white light enveloped my vision, and Nightmare and I found ourselves standing at the center of the dock.

It didn’t take long to realize that the surroundings were in the sky. I could tell by the thick clouds floating around.

“Wow…”

Numerous wizards were bustling about. I looked up at the massive ship exhibiting a giant presence right in front of the dock.

In this world, ships fly through the sky.

Like whales soaring through the air.

I burst into laughter toward the blue sky.
