Chapter 72: Chapter 72: The Potion System—Harnessing Universal Connections
Within the depths of the Inner Manifestation Realm, Su Nan and Gray Nan clashed relentlessly. Here, in this metaphysical space, both the cost and limits of magic were diminished, allowing them to unleash spells with reckless abandon.
The battle began with a relentless exchange of Fireball Bug Curses. Over a dozen volleys scorched the ethereal battleground, reshaping the Path of the Wizard. But as the fight progressed, the confrontation evolved from pure spellcasting into a brutal melee. Both had activated their Alpha Lycanthrope forms, transforming into primal warriors as they tore into each other with claws and magic.
Though Gray Nan's individual attacks carried more raw power, Su Nan's keen understanding of his opponent's rhythm and his superior adaptability compensated for the difference. He exploited Gray Nan's lack of coordination with allies, forcing him into increasingly desperate attacks.
As they fought, Su Nan leaped back, narrowly dodging a devastating blow. A massive Quad-Claw Strike, combining the abilities of Steel Claw, Power Claw, Agile Claw, and Flame Claw, slammed into the Path, shaking it violently. Su Nan managed to deflect Gray Nan's follow-up strikes but couldn't contain his curiosity any longer.
"Why do you hate me so much?" he demanded.
"Hate you?" Gray Nan sneered as he flipped through the air, his left claw glowing with the power of all four enhancements. "The real question is—why do you hate yourself?"
He twisted mid-air, bringing his claws down in a vicious arc. Su Nan barely dodged, his reflexes saving him by a hair's breadth.
"Our collaboration was fruitful once," Gray Nan continued, his attacks growing faster. "We built something great—the Potion System. But then you met those Forsaken sorcerers."
Gray Nan's voice turned venomous. "You saw their Meditation Method and their spells, and suddenly, you doubted everything. You thought the Potion System was nothing more than a crude placeholder—a stopgap for real magic."
"You've been consumed by that doubt ever since. And now, that doubt has festered and taken shape—me. But let me ask you this: have you used a single potion in this fight?"
Su Nan froze for a moment, caught off guard by the accusation. In that instant, Gray Nan stopped his assault. With a twisted smile, he reached into the flames of their clashing Fireball Bug Curses, pulling forth two distinct fires—one black, the other orange.
Combining the flames, Gray Nan forged a Black-White Flame Potion, the swirling liquid radiating an ominous power.
"This," Gray Nan said, holding the vial aloft, "is the Black-White Flame Potion you conceptualized two weeks ago but never completed. I finished it for you."
Before Su Nan could react, Gray Nan hurled the potion toward the Abyss of the Mind. It shattered mid-air, releasing twin wheels of black and white fire. The wheels spun furiously, creating a vortex of destructive energy that began eroding the Abyss's boundaries.
"This," Gray Nan declared, "is the true power of the Potion System."
"The world is not a collection of isolated entities," he continued. "Everything—sun, moon, man, beast, and even energy beings—exists in a web of interdependence. The Potion System extracts power from these universal connections, distilling meaning and magic from relationships and context."
"Do you understand now, Su Nan?" Gray Nan's eyes gleamed with malice. "The Potion System isn't just a tool; it's the ultimate path to truth. And yet, you've dared to doubt it."
With a flick of his wrist, Gray Nan conjured another Black-White Flame Potion. Using his Sacrificial Grip, he immobilized Su Nan, preparing to strike. "Now, I'll show you the price of your betrayal."
Before Gray Nan could act, the Eclipsed Inner Realm was torn open by a swirling red vortex.
A guttural voice echoed from the abyss, dripping with malice.
"Found you at last, little sorcerer. My prey... my feast…"
The voice paused, its tone shifting to confusion. "What's this? A second presence? An imposter?"
Then, rage. "Out of my way! This one is mine!"
Su Nan's face darkened. "The Black Death Demon... it's here."
Gray Nan turned, his expression unreadable. "It seems your incompetence knows no bounds," he sneered. "You've led that wretched creature straight to us."
"We don't have time for this!" Su Nan snapped. "I've summoned Vasiliy the Death Knight into the Inner Realm. He can hold off the Black Death Demon temporarily, but we need to work together."
Gray Nan's response was a cruel laugh. Tightening his Sacrificial Grip, he shook his head. "Work together? Don't make me laugh."
"Why not?" Su Nan pressed. "You let me summon Vasiliy. That means you don't want the Black Death Demon to destroy us either."
Gray Nan's smile turned cold. "It doesn't matter. You've already disappointed me too much. If this is the end, then so be it. Let's destroy each other."
With those words, he hurled the Black-White Flame Potion directly at Su Nan. The vial shattered against his chest, engulfing him in an inferno of searing flames.
Gray Nan watched the explosion, his face impassive. "It's over…"
But as the flames cleared, his eyes widened in disbelief. Su Nan stood unscathed, the twin wheels of black and white fire orbiting him harmlessly.
Reaching out, Su Nan clenched his fist, drawing the flames into his palm and extinguishing them.
"You underestimated me," Su Nan said calmly. "From the start, I knew your attacks couldn't hurt me."
Gray Nan's eyes narrowed. "When did you figure it out?"
Su Nan sighed. "From the moment you started using my magic. If you're truly part of me, then my power can't harm me. That's why you've been so focused on manipulation and deceit."
He stepped forward, his voice steady. "You're not a separate entity. You're a reflection of my doubt and fear—a shadow of my potential. But now, it's time to reclaim what's mine."
The Path of the Wizard began to glow, and the fractured Inner Realm started to reassemble itself. In the distance, the Black Death Demon roared, its efforts to breach Vasiliy's defenses growing more desperate.
Gray Nan snarled, retreating. "You think you've won?"
Su Nan nodded. "I don't think—I know."
With newfound resolve, Su Nan prepared to face the final battle—against both the shadow within and the darkness encroaching from beyond.
"When... did you realize it?"
Amid the swirling vortex of black and white flames, Su Nan stood unharmed, the two fire wheels orbiting him like loyal guardians. The temperature was suffocatingly intense, capable of reducing anything to ash—yet Su Nan's body remained untouched.
He sighed softly, extending his hand. With a single grasp, the raging flames were drawn into his palm, vanishing into nothingness.
"I suspected it during our battle," Su Nan admitted, his voice calm but resolute. "After all, I'm the kind of person who doesn't trust easily—not even myself. So naturally, I questioned the moment you transformed my magic into your own. It was too seamless, too perfect—a trick, not a revelation."
He gestured toward the dissipating fire. "And then the arrival of the Black Death Demon confirmed it."
Su Nan's eyes locked onto Gray Nan, his gaze steady. "If you're truly me, then our magical power is fundamentally the same. That means my magic can't harm me."
He stepped forward, the Path of the Wizard glowing beneath his feet. "Even if I'm standing at the epicenter of my own magic's destructive storm, it could never hurt me—not unless I rejected it. That's why your so-called transformation of my magic into yours was possible in the first place. Not because my magic lacks intent or will, but because deep down, you knew—my power can never harm me."
Gray Nan's expression twisted into a sneer, though a flicker of uncertainty shone in his eyes. "So, you're saying this was all a misunderstanding? A trick of semantics?"
Su Nan shook his head. "No. I'm saying you're not as separate from me as you'd like to believe. You're my doubt, my fear, and my anger—all magnified by the stress of my Inner Manifestation. But you're still me. And now, it's time to reclaim what's mine."
With that, Su Nan raised his hand, and the once-fragmented Inner Realm began to shift. The broken pieces of the landscape reassembled themselves, while the glowing Path of the Wizard stretched further into the void.
In the distance, the guttural roars of the Black Death Demon echoed louder, its monstrous presence pressing against the tenuous defenses of Vasiliy the Death Knight.
Gray Nan snarled, retreating a step. "You think you've won just because you've figured out a piece of the puzzle?"
Su Nan's voice was steady, unwavering. "I don't think I've won. I know I will."
As he walked forward, the Inner Realm solidified further, the battle shifting decisively in his favor. The final confrontation was imminent—both with the shadow of doubt within and the encroaching darkness beyond.
