Book 3: Chapter 10 (8/10)
Anwyn touched her head using her left hand and saw a drop of blood come out on the top of her head. In disbelief, Anwyn was about to ask Lucas how he broke through her naturally high defense but didn’t have a chance to do so because Lucas once again flew up in front of her and ingested all of his evil spirits then delivered another strong sword slash. This time that sword slash cracked Anwyn’s skull open but still couldn’t kill her. What killed Anwyn was the powerful God-tier Ice Magic spell, [Ice Birds], cast by Gisella Renzo toward her, followed by seven more God-tier Ice Mage spells to secure her death.
Lucas fell to the ground and died again through suicide but quickly revived himself for the third time. After seeing Anwyn’s corpse transported back to the Devil’s planet, Lucas whispered, “The Devil Overlord's defense is much more powerful than I had expected. If I can’t revive myself using Master Clerico’s [Reanimate] spell, then the best I could have done was cause a minor wound against her.”
Kain, Finwe, Kimaris, and Ursula stood idly in shock after witnessing Lucas’s true power. If Lucas wanted to, he could have killed Kimaris and Ursula easily instead of dragging their fight on for hours. Noe’s entire plan was to make sure Kain could not conjure Anwyn back for the third time. At the same time, he caused all of Kain’s Blood Equipment to reach depletion to ensure he wouldn’t have the ability to escape from Linkeep Island after getting defeated. If Noe allowed Lucas to kill Anwyn too early, that would scare Kain away from having a real battle with him. If Kain still has over two hundred Blood Equipment fully charged, then capturing him would be nearly impossible. Because Kain could conjure Anwyn back for the second time and it would not be so easy for Lucas to kill her again after she knew of his true power.
Kain checked his Magical Storage Ring and saw he had one Blood Ring and one Blood Pendant left that was fully charged. Because of his Vampire Mutant form, Kain still had eight blood pools and four health pools full to assist him in battle. The bad thing was Kain couldn’t conjure Anwyn back because the mana pool was required to use [Soul Bridge] spell. Kain couldn’t use one of the eight blood pools inside his stomach to use it. Kain quickly calculated and thought to himself, “My Second Soul can use his Devil form to fight with Gisella Renzo. Finwe can temporarily stop Lucas and other minions including the Devil Warrior and Devil Mage using his Delusion Magic. As long as I can cause Noe Clerico’s mana pool to reach depletion, then winning this battle is still possible. Noe’s [Second Life] spell was still on cooldown, I still have a chance to kill him.”
Kain then executed his plan like he had thought and it appeared to be working well for him. Kain repeatedly killed Noe forcing him to continuously revive himself until Noe could no longer revive most of his minions except for Lucas to reserve his mana pool. Finwe was still using his Delusion Magic to keep Lucas busy and prevent him from killing the Devil-Kain who was still fighting with Gisella Renzo. Kain happily smiled feeling his victory was within grasp, that was when Kain saw Noe unlocked his Magical Storage Ring and started pouring Large Mana Potions down his throat while using [Substitution] spells to not getting interrupted by Kain. Every time Kain killed Noe, it turned out to be a Skeleton Warrior as Noe appeared ten feet away and drank another Large Mana Potion.
Kain angrily yelled at Noe when he saw that, “Drinking Large Mana Potions to recover your mana pool, how shameful! This isn’t fair for me!”
Noe ignored Kain and continued drinking Large Mana Potions while blocking Kain’s powerful kicks using his left hand.
After finishing drinking another twenty Large Mana Potions, Noe mockingly asked, “Shameful? Said the one who uses Blood Equipment as his energy source. If you have several Blood Rings and Blood Pendants then I wouldn’t even mention it. But I have counted every time you have switched Blood Rings and Blood Pendants. Guess what? You have switched more than seventeen times. Each time you switched was nine Blood Rings and three Blood Pendants. What does that tell me? It told me that you have around two hundred Blood Equipment to use against me. Speaking of fairness. Does that sound fair to me?”
Kain managed to kill Noe again but he instantly revived himself using the [Unlimited Life] spell. Kain angrily resumed attacking Noe using his Ice Spear as he asked, “I am a Blood Mage! Using Blood Equipment is to my advantage! Isn't Holy Mage the only person who can access and use Mana Potions? Why do you have so many Large Mana Potions in your Storage Ring?"
Noe blocked several attacks from Kain then threw six strong punches and five strong kicks as he explained, "Only the Holy Mage gets access to Mana Potions huh? Who did you think was the person who created that rule? It was me. Haha... While Gwenn Bigham remained as the Holy Mage, I am the true Protector of the Mages Council. If needed, my voice alone can override any command given by the Holy Mage."
"You have drunk twenty-one Large Mana Potions in battling against me. Didn't you know about your enormously large mana pool that can never reach depletion? But yet kept on drinking Large Mana Potions to refill it.”
“You are right. Being a Blood Mage and gaining the ability to use Blood Equipment is your advantage. Little boy, guess what? Being the Lord of the Gray and having the Mages Council’s resources at my disposal is my advantage. One’s background is also an important key to power.”
Back to the present. Noe sighed heavily while looking at the lifeless corpse of Kain Bersk laying on the ground and whispered, “Kain Bersk, you are by far the strongest opponent I have encountered in the lower realms. Not only did you manage to cause my mana pool to fall below five percent, but also make me drink thirty-eight Large Mana Potions, fifty-two Medium Mana Potions, and eighty-six Small Mana Potions. Those are the number of Mana Potions you saw me drinking. If including the other… Kain Bersk, you have earned my greatest respect.”
Throughout the battle between Noe and Kain, Noe had drunk many Mana Potions while using [Shadow Clone] and [Substitution] spells but Kain just didn’t know about it. Noe kept bragging about how large his mana pool truly was just to exhaust his enemies’ mental capacity. While it was true that Noe’s mana pool greatly enlarged after he upgraded his Conjurer Soul to Necromancer Soul, his true secret was Mana Potions. Because [Shadow Clone] and [Substitution] spells both grant Noe invisibility temporarily, it allowed him to partially refill his mana pool using Mana Potions without letting other people know about it. To be fair, Noe had never used these many Mana Potions before in fighting against one magic caster. Any Champion of the Mages Council wouldn’t be strong enough to cause Noe’s mana pool to fall below eighty percent let alone using Mana Potions. Kain Bersk was the first, and possibly the only. That is what Noe believed because he still didn’t know Arthur Castillon’s real power.
Noe opened the second Dark Vortex then checked on ten minions inside it and told them, “All of you have served me well in this battle. However, it is time for one of you to be eliminated and end your journey with me. Hmm... Agnes and Conrad, I know you two were married before you became my minions. But I can only keep one of you and eliminate the other. Who will volunteer to be eliminated?”
Agnes said, “Master Clerico, I volunteered to be eliminated allowing my husband to continue his journey with you.”
Conrad said, “Master Clerico, please eliminate me and allow my wife to continue her journey as one of your wonderful minions.”
“Both of you volunteered huh? I see… It would be sad for the other if I eliminated either one of you. Fine then, I will eliminate both.”
