Travelling through the interstellar world, starting with the real and fake daughter

Chapter 59 - Killer

Mai Dongzi waited for the survival game production crew’s landing craft, but instead, she received a military landing craft, and the person who came to pick her up was once again Lieutenant Fu, whom she had met twice before.

Lieutenant Fu greeted Mai Dongzi and said, “Miss Lucy, our lord happens to be returning to the Imperial Capital Star in these two days. For your safety, His Highness hopes that you will travel with us.”

Without needing further explanation from Lieutenant Fu, Mai Dongzi understood why Prince Arthur wanted her to return to the Imperial Capital Star aboard the military ship.

Over the past ten days, while others saw her leisurely searching for energy plants and hunting mutant beasts, in reality, her mind had been constantly on edge.

Ever since Chen’s aide informed her about Zhao Feni’s bounty on her head, Mai Dongzi’s mental energy had been “patrolling” her surroundings.

She had also paid extra attention to the two warriors who were always hidden but persistently following her, only relaxing a bit once she judged that they did not pose an immediate threat.

Thus, Mai Dongzi had not missed the adventurer who seemed to be approaching her casually but was actually doing so with a purpose.

She also “saw” how Lieutenant Fu had given a minor punishment, resulting in the immediate elimination of that adventurer.

Mai Dongzi did not miss the unidentified landing craft that landed not far from her.

She “saw” that before the landing craft had fully landed, a Level 7 female warrior had already leaped up into the trees like a flying bird, moving swiftly between the branches towards the landing craft.

Meanwhile, the Level 6 male warrior approached Mai Dongzi’s direction, eventually stopping less than 200 meters from her treehouse.

Since Mai Dongzi did not sense any killing intent from this warrior, she ignored him.

She then “saw” that as soon as the unidentified landing craft touched down, the doors immediately opened. Before the door had even fully opened, a middle-aged man quickly jumped down from the landing craft.

The weapon the middle-aged man was holding, whether by coincidence or design, was aimed directly at Mai Dongzi’s direction.

Without any hesitation, Mai Dongzi’s psychic energy instantly transformed into a long, sharp spike, which plunged forcefully into the middle-aged man’s mind. She then “saw” that, despite the middle-aged man’s weapon turning in another direction after the attack, he still managed to fire a round, black spherical projectile.

The black sphere fell into the forest and immediately emitted a blinding light. Mai Dongzi did not hear the expected deafening explosion but a dull thud instead.

However, the rising, fiery mushroom cloud and its coverage area were enough to indicate how dangerous the weapon was.

If Mai Dongzi had not acted promptly, and if that projectile had struck her treehouse, she was unsure whether she would have been able to escape.

The Level 7 female warrior, who was too far away, saw the middle-aged man’s actions and leaped from the trees to tackle him. Although she managed to bring him down, she was unable to stop him from firing the weapon.

However, after knocking down the middle-aged man and finding him unconscious, the female warrior quickly drew her gun and shot at the landing craft.

A light cannon shot from the landing craft’s door exploded inside, and sparks and blinding light quickly filled the entire landing craft.

Mai Dongzi initially thought that the other two people inside the landing craft would be burned to a crisp. However, once the sparks and light faded, there were no signs of high-temperature burning inside the landing craft, and the two people were merely unconscious.

Lieutenant Fu quickly arrived at the scene with his team and took away the three unconscious individuals along with the landing craft.

Mai Dongzi believed that the medical staff at the Shui Lan Star military base would be able to determine what kind of ability had attacked the middle-aged man.

Therefore, she waited for Vice Admiral Chen to inquire about the situation but never received any communication.

This left Mai Dongzi uncertain whether Vice Admiral Chen and his team had not noticed the signs of her intervention or if they did not want to reveal her actions.

It was also possible that they had obtained some information from the three individuals and either did not want or could not share it with her, hence the silence.

While she was unsure about the previous adventurer, she was certain that the unnamed landing craft and the three people inside were assassins sent to take her life.

This indicated that the assassin organization, having received the bounty, had acted immediately upon receiving the task.

Since she was live-streaming daily, the assassin organization could easily track her location on Shui Lan Star. Knowing she was on this planet, it would be straightforward to determine her exact position with the available information.

Mai Dongzi, combining her memories from her past and present life, confirmed that the domestic environment in the Blue-Black Empire had been peaceful over the past two years.

To clear the original host’s reputation as a useless person and to counter those who sought to defame and harm the original host, she channeled almost all her energy into her martial arts cultivation on the live broadcast show.

As for Mai Dongzi’s mental ability, which she had intended to keep hidden, she unintentionally exposed it herself through her actions.

While ordinary people might not estimate her true level of cultivation, Mai Dongzi believed that for an assassin organization, accurately assessing their target’s abilities was a crucial part of their operations.

Given their assessment of her abilities, the three assassins used covert methods to land on Shui Lan Star and opted for a swift, long-range attack.

If it weren’t for Mai Dongzi’s strong mental power and timely intervention, disrupting the middle-aged man’s actions, she would have been in serious danger.

The fact that those two warriors, despite coming to protect her, would not have had time to save her if she hadn’t had the means to save herself, confirmed to Mai Dongzi that they were indeed her protective shadow guards.

Although Mai Dongzi didn’t understand why Lieutenant Chen hadn’t told her about this situation, it was clear that the two shadow guards had split up to protect her as soon as the landing craft appeared.

Even though she had saved herself during this crisis, Mai Dongzi was still very grateful to them.

Mai Dongzi knew nothing about the dark market and assassin organizations in this world, nor did she understand the significance of the ten million credit reward or the extent of the Shui Lan Star garrison’s control over planetary security.

Since the assassin organization had already begun their actions, they would not cancel the mission just because they had lost three members.

Thus, the reason why Prince Arthur had brought her back was likely to prevent the assassin organization from being persistent and taking another opportunity to strike on her way back to the capital star, potentially implicating other adventurers and the show’s staff.
