Chapter 17
The curse of Ivesernense was more deadly to the noble young ladies than any other curse in this world.
The curse made the target’s mouth smell, but the target couldn’t feel the smell of their own mouth at all. It was one of the worst curses as it made them feel extreme shame until someone told them, as they couldn’t realize it on their own.
‘My goodness, was that curse aimed at me?’
Sylonne angrily clenched her fists.
At the same time, a clunking sound came from her hands, and I flinched momentarily without realizing.
“It was wrong to just let it go earlier. We should have put her in a tough spot right there.”
I had forgotten. This house is known to have the best villains in the world.
Just by clenching her fists, the aura emanating from Sylonne was overwhelming.
‘It’s really fortunate that this family likes me. Otherwise…’
I couldn’t even imagine what it would have been like if I had come here as a sinner.
“That’s what I’m saying.”
The Archduke raised his eyebrows and frowned.
Thinking deeply about something, he grabbed the jacket hanging on a servant’s hand and left the room.
“I’ll take care of this. It’s late, you rest. Sylonne, you follow me. I need a detailed explanation on the way.”
“No, Lucian.”
I got up from the bed and hurriedly put on a shawl.
“I’m coming too.”
This was not just Sylonne’s problem, but mine too. It wasn’t my fault but it happened because of me anyway.
While heading to the reception room, Sylonne reported everything about the incident at the dress shop to the Archduke in detail.
“…Is Baron Delfia provoking me?”
“It’s not that, brother should have behaved properly. That girl likes you, that’s why she acted like that!”
It seems a bit inappropriate to call it a report.
“What’s wrong with my behavior?”
“At the last party! You hugged her in front of everyone! After that, Priscilla has been spouting nonsense that she is your fiance.”
“It’s not hugging, she fell on me.”
“Fell! Priscilla seemed very happy to be hugged.”
“She was the one who wouldn’t let go of me.”
“Oh, really? From my eyes, it looked like you were hugging?”
“I didn’t hug her. You’re making it sound very arbitrary. I just maintained the bare minimum of courtesy as a gentleman.”
Amid the fierce argument between the siblings, we arrived in front of the reception room in no time.
In the large reception room, members of the Delfia family were sitting upright facing grandfather-in-law and mother-in-law.
“Sniff, what did I do wrong? Why did the princess…”
In the middle of them, Priscilla was sobbing pitifully with her eyes swollen.
“I really don’t know why the Commander of the knights had to use such force on a fragile lady like me, sniff sniff…”
Between sobs, Priscilla sneakily eyed the splendid decorations of the reception room.
“Huh, that’s ridiculous.”
Sylonne chuckled once before opening the door, walking briskly towards the tea table where everyone was seated.
“Let me make one thing clear, Grandfather.”
Hearing Sylonne’s voice, Priscilla’s expression twisted oddly.
“I, as the Commander of the knights of Felosite, used force for a very valid reason. So-“
“Wait a minute.”
Priscilla abruptly cut off Sylonne’s words, standing up from her seat. Then she showed her injured arm to Sylonne, tearing up.
“Are you saying it’s justified to break my arm, Princess Sylonne?”
“Justified… not? And when did I break your arm!”
The voice of Sylonne, who had been calm all along, began to tremble.
“Heh heh, that’s fine. We just came to say that it would be difficult for us to take charge of Archduke Lucian’s wedding. It’s quite awkward since our families considered a marital alliance.”
The Baron of Delfia smiled benevolently but subtly expressed his discomfort.
“Normally, no wedding could proceed without us, but the Archduke is such a remarkable person, he will manage just fine.”
The atmosphere in the reception room chilled in an instant. Like father like daughter, the Baron was making ridiculous remarks quite creatively.
‘Besides, this can easily be conveyed in a letter.’
Coming here in the middle of the night was a sign of discontent.
My grandfather-in-law didn’t say anything and closed his eyes, crossing his arms.
‘But if it’s the Delfia family… Could it be that Delfia from the famous Delfia merchants?’
It was a name I was also familiar with.
The Delfia family had owned the largest merchant group in the north for generations, and among them, Delfia’s wedding business was unparalleled in scale.
It was almost an official stance that if there was a noble family wedding in the Empire, it had to be handled by the Delfia merchants.
I too have dealt with the Delfia merchants while preparing for the wedding of Gabriel and Beatrice.
There was a branch of Delfia merchants in the capital, and I had made a deal with the head of the branch there. It was indeed impossible to handle even an imperial wedding without them.
Almost all the big and small enterprises in the Empire related to weddings were associated with the Delfia family.
Literally. Without them, the progress of a wedding was impossible.
‘But didn’t they have territories in the north? Why are they in Felosite…’
Looking back, I realized I hadn’t seen the Baron Delfia, the owner of the merchants, even once while preparing for Gabriel’s wedding.
It was an imperial wedding that should have been taken care of personally as per tradition, but he had said he was unable to travel.
Now thinking about it, the Baron was a noble of Felosite and had restrictions on travel.
‘With a large merchant group controlling the Empire’s wedding business, their influence must be tremendous.’
But, so what?
With butler Delgado’s capabilities, anything was possible. It was said the Archduke even had control over the black market.
I could guarantee with the wedding planner expertise I had accumulated in my previous life.
Moreover, the Archduke was the lord of this Felosite territory, so there was no particular need to maintain a relationship with the Delfia family.
So I should be able to step forward to this extent.
“Excuse me, but may I say something?”
I spoke with the softest tone possible.
“The princess did nothing wrong.”
My grandfather-in-law gently opened his eyes and looked at me keenly.
“The princess, as the Commander of the knights, has harmed a noble young lady. Yet, how could you say there is no fault with the princess, child?”
I stood tall and looked down upon the members of the Baron’s family.
“I am the Empire’s princess and the Archduchess of Felosite. Therefore, Princess Sylonne, as a knight Commander, rightfully has a duty to confront anyone trying to harm me.”
Priscilla, who was glaring at the proactive me, and I exchanged glances, and I smiled slyly.
“The Young Lady Delfia cursed me-“
“I never tried to harm Her Highness the princess!”
Priscilla seemed to find this the right moment, as she rushed towards the Archduke with fire in her eyes.
“Your Grace, Her Highness is lying.”
As Priscilla pushed her ample chest forward and approached him, the Archduke, clearly uncomfortable, stepped back.
“It stinks, get away right now.”
“What?”
“You. Have. Bad. Breath.”
Everyone was taken aback by the harsh statement and looked at the Archduke.
Oh, could it be.
“What the heck is this smell!”
A terrible smell was emanating from Priscilla.
‘It’s the Ivesernense curse!’
But the intensity was entirely different from a typical Ivesernense curse. It was difficult to even breathe near Priscilla.
The foul smell spread all the way to the end of the reception room, and one by one, people started to hold their noses.
“Well, finding an antidote will be hard. My curse is on a different level from ordinary Ivesernense spells.”
“Your Highness, agh! Have you, agh! Cursed our family?”
“Like this, huff! How is she, huff! Supposed to find a, huff! Husband!”
Priscilla’s brothers angrily intervened.
Although they couldn’t finish their sentences properly because of the horrible smell emanating from her.
“This, this is, huff! An insult to, huff! Our family!”
“To discourage the, ugh! Marriage like this!”
I admit one thing: courage.
Being able to yell like that amidst the lively crowd of Archduke Felosite’s household is amazing.
Of course, despite their vigorous voices, they couldn’t even look straight at the Archduke’s feet.
“And I never had an engagement with Lady Priscilla in the first place…?”
