Chapter 38
Riding a bicycle, Jiang You hummed a tune with a happy heart, pedaling toward the company. Tomorrow morning, Ling Yue would come to the company to sign a contract. He planned to have the contract drafted tonight and share this good news with his fellow co-founders. They would undoubtedly be excited too.
Recently, although everyone appeared cheerful on the surface, they were all worried about the company's future. This company was their shared brainchild, and no one wanted to see it perish.
When leaving the company today, he had a meeting with the others and they entrusted him with the decision-making power.
Recalling Ling Yue's previous words, Jiang You felt his determination soaring, but he failed to notice a speeding car charging towards him until he heard the alarmed shouts of bystanders. By then, the car was too close for him to dodge.
Jiang You broke into a cold sweat, staring in horror at the rapidly approaching vehicle. A sense of despair and unwillingness surged within him. He didn't want to die; he hadn't yet witnessed the company's glory.
At that very moment, a transparent glow emanated from his pocket. The car hurtling towards him suddenly halted as if obstructed by something. It then shot high into the air before crashing heavily onto the road with a tremendous sound, overturning on the street.
Jiang You's eyes widened in disbelief, his whole body trembling slightly. Was he hallucinating?
The bystanders gaped at the scene, equally stunned. They had assumed Jiang You would perish, but instead, this dramatic turn occurred, leaving him unscathed while the car was flung aside. Had they not witnessed it themselves, they would not have believed it.
Coming to his senses, Jiang You hurriedly rode away on his bicycle, his heart still pounding. Thinking back to that moment, he remained shaken, having narrowly escaped death's grasp. If the car had moved another meter forward, he would have lost his life today.
Returning to the Dolphin Company office, Jiang You still couldn't calm down. Anyone who came that close to death wouldn't regain their composure so quickly.
"What's wrong? Didn't the negotiations go well?" Zhang Xun noticed Jiang You's pale expression and guessed that today's affairs hadn't proceeded smoothly.
Jiang You shook his head, took a deep breath to steady himself, and said, "No, everything went well. She'll come to the company tomorrow morning to sign the contract. Contact the others and secure the servers."
"Then why do you look so unsettled?" In Zhang Xun's impression, Jiang You had always been composed: a key reason he agreed to start this venture with him.
"On my way back, a car suddenly charged at me. I barely avoided getting hit," Jiang You briefly recounted the incident, still finding it unbelievable. The car was no more than a meter away, and even with the best brakes, it shouldn't have been able to stop so abruptly.
"You really have a charmed life," Zhang Xun patted Jiang You's shoulder with a laugh. "As the saying goes, 'great fortune follows great peril.' It seems our company is destined for greatness."
Jiang You laughed, "Go get the others. I have good news to announce."
"Got it." Zhang Xun walked out of the office with a smile.
When everyone had gathered, Jiang You informed them about Ling Yue's investment in the company.
"Brother Jiang, the investor is a woman?" The others looked surprised upon hearing this.
"What's with those expressions? What's wrong with a woman?" Jiang You frowned at them disapprovingly.
They laughed awkwardly. "No, it's just unexpected for a woman to have such boldness."
"Yeah, our company just started and hasn't really taken off yet."
"She has that much faith in us, without worrying about losing such a huge investment?"
Thinking of Ling Yue, a faint smile appeared on Jiang You's lips. "She's different from ordinary girls. Not only is she willing to invest in our company, but she also offered many useful suggestions." He repeated Ling Yue's words verbatim.
"Is she a genius to come up with such great ideas?"
"When is she coming? I'd love to meet her."
"Me too."
"Tomorrow at nine in the morning," Jiang You replied with a smile, also looking forward to the meeting.
Meanwhile, Yukihiko Oda was enraged upon receiving the news. He slammed the phone down, cursing, "Useless fools!" He had originally planned a car accident to kill Jiang You. With Jiang You gone, he had ways to make the others at Dolphin Company comply. However, not only was Jiang You unharmed, but he also lost one of his men.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He slapped the desk in fury and called for his men.
Two subordinates entered, bowing respectfully. "Master!"
Yukihiko Oda glared at them. "Tonight, infiltrate Dolphin Company and kidnap Jiang You. Take him to the suburbs." He made a throat-slitting gesture.
"Yes, sir!" the two men answered in unison.
Yukihiko Oda waved his hand dismissively, a cold smile playing on his lips. He always got what he wanted. Since Jiang You refused to cooperate, he would eliminate him. His target was Dolphin Company, with or without Jiang You.
After finishing his work, Jiang You shut down his computer and left the office. Tonight, he planned to stay at the company, which had sleeping quarters. During the initial stages of establishing the company, they often worked overnight, so he had set up beds in a few spare rooms for such occasions.
