Chapter 84: Irritation

The grand hall of the palace was a hive of activity as representatives from three kingdoms and several mercenary groups gathered, all eager to meet Canna. The air was thick with tension and anticipation. Each group eyed the others warily, aware that they were all here for the same purpose: to gain favor with the mysterious white-haired savior of Avaloria.

The delegation from the Kingdom of Arenthia, led by General Alaric, stood with military precision. Their polished armor and disciplined demeanor spoke of their kingdom's strength and order. Arenthia sought to secure Canna as an ally, recognizing the strategic advantage of having such a powerful individual on their side.

Nearby, the delegation from the Kingdom of Veridia, headed by Grand Mage Lysandra, radiated an aura of power. Their flowing robes and mystical symbols hinted at their deep knowledge of magic. Veridia was keen to explore Canna's magical capabilities, hoping to forge an alliance that would benefit their scholarly pursuits and enhance their magical prowess.

The third kingdom, Eldoria, represented by Prince Zachary, exuded wealth and charm. Eldoria was a land of merchants and diplomats, and their delegation was a testament to their opulence. Prince Zachary's goal was to offer Canna lucrative trade deals and resources, aiming to win his favor through material wealth and strategic partnerships.

Scattered among the royal delegations were various mercenary groups. The Ironclad Brotherhood, led by Marcus, a rugged and charismatic leader, hoped to recruit Canna into their ranks. The Shadow Blades, a secretive and elusive organization, watched from the shadows, assessing Canna's potential as an asset for their covert operations.

As the factions mingled and exchanged guarded pleasantries, the grand doors of the hall opened. Kael entered, his presence commanding attention. "Gentlemen and ladies, thank you for your patience. Canna will see you now."

The groups quickly gathered their composure and followed Kael to a large meeting room. The room was spacious, with a long table at its center. Canna sat at the head, his expression one of mild irritation. He was not fond of such formalities and the ensuing discussions, but he understood their necessity.

General Alaric was the first to speak. "Canna, on behalf of the Kingdom of Arenthia, I extend our deepest gratitude for your actions. We seek an alliance that would benefit both our lands. Your strength is unparalleled, and together, we can ensure the safety and prosperity of our people."

Grand Mage Lysandra interjected. "Indeed, Canna. Veridia also recognizes your immense power. Our scholars and mages would be honored to collaborate with you, to learn from your unique abilities and to share our own knowledge."

Prince Zachary, not to be outdone, stepped forward with a charming smile. "Canna, Eldoria offers you wealth and resources beyond measure. Our trade networks and diplomatic connections could greatly enhance your endeavors. Whatever you need, we can provide."

Canna listened to their offers with a growing sense of irritation. He appreciated their gratitude but disliked the way they were all vying for his favor. He wanted straightforward discussions, not a contest of who could offer the most.

Before he could respond, Marcus from the Ironclad Brotherhood spoke up. "Canna, if you join us, you'll have the backing of the finest warriors. Together, we can take on any threat and carve our own path."

Raven, the leader of the Shadow Blades, emerged from the shadows. "Canna, our skills in espionage and covert operations could be invaluable to you. We operate in the shadows, unseen and unheard. With us, you could achieve your goals without attracting unwanted attention."

Canna's patience was wearing thin. The room was filled with voices, each trying to outdo the other. He raised a hand, signaling for silence. "Enough. I appreciate your offers, but I am not here to be bought or recruited. My mission is my own, and I will not be swayed by promises of power or wealth."

The room fell silent, the various factions taken aback by Canna's bluntness. They had underestimated his resolve and independence.

General Alaric, not easily deterred, tried a different approach. "We respect your independence, Canna. Perhaps there is something we can do to aid your mission. What is it that you seek?"

Canna considered the question, deciding it was time to be clear about his needs. "I am looking for races that specialize in nature magic. My goal is to revive my domain, and I need their knowledge and abilities to achieve that."

Grand Mage Lysandra's eyes lit up with interest. "Nature magic, you say? Veridia has ancient texts and tomes that might be of use to you. Our scholars could assist in your quest."

Prince Zachary nodded thoughtfully. "Eldoria's trade networks extend far and wide. We could help you locate these races and facilitate your interactions with them."

As the discussions continued, Canna's irritation returned. The representatives were still trying to outmaneuver each other, each presenting their own solution as the best. He needed a moment of peace and clarity to sort through their offers.

Sensing his master's growing irritation, Mortem and Vorgrim stepped out of Canna's shadow, their imposing figures casting a heavy presence over the room. The sudden appearance of the two subordinates silenced the room, their auras exuding a mix of dread and respect.

Mortem's hollow voice echoed in the room. "You are all here to speak with my master. Speak plainly and respectfully, or face the consequences."

Vorgrim brandished his greatsword, its blade gleaming menacingly. "My liege does not have time for petty squabbles. State your intentions clearly and leave."

The room was filled with a tense silence. The representatives, now acutely aware of the power Canna commanded, adjusted their approach. The atmosphere shifted from one of competitive offers to one of genuine cooperation and respect.

General Alaric spoke again, his tone more measured. "Canna, we truly wish to assist you. Arenthia's scouts and diplomats can help you locate the nature mages you seek."

Grand Mage Lysandra added, "Veridia's resources are at your disposal. Our scholars will aid you in any way they can."

Prince Zachary, humbled by the display of power, nodded. "Eldoria stands ready to support you. Our connections and resources are yours to use."

Canna, seeing the sincerity in their eyes, felt a sense of relief. The chaos and irritation had subsided, replaced by a clearer path forward. "Thank you. I will consider your offers. For now, I need time to plan my next steps."

The representatives nodded in agreement, understanding that they had to give Canna the space he needed. As they left the room, Canna looked at Mortem and Vorgrim with a nod of appreciation. "Thank you. That was... necessary."

Mortem bowed slightly. "Always at your service, master."

Vorgrim sheathed his sword. "We are here to ensure your path remains clear."

Canna took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his mission but also the support of those around him. With a renewed sense of purpose, he began to plan his journey to find the nature mages, knowing that the alliances he had formed would aid him in his quest.
