(Pov Riser Phenex...)
Urgh. Why the hell am I here? This thought ran through my head while my headache throbbed. For Satan's sake, how did I get involved in this council of old devils' meeting?
I glanced to the side and saw Sirzechs Lucifer trying to convince himself not to use his power of destruction to wipe out this noble devil. Why do I say that? Because the devil has been speaking non-stop for the last half hour.
You'd think a child would be much more annoying than a noble-class devil. You'd be wrong. As much as Sirzechs is restraining himself to be the current Maou, he also feels anger and could explode on these guys.
And then, like a saving grace, Serafall interrupted the devil's speech, destroying everything he had said. This only proves that Serafall is much more than she appears.
After another half-day of non-stop meetings, the current Maou faction did everything they could to prevent the Great King's faction from approving more outrageous laws against reincarnated devils.
Quickly, when the meeting ended, Riser and Serafall were the only ones left in the room. Sirzechs went to his family to meet his wife. Ajuka didn't even show up, being in his lab. Just like Falbium, who was sleeping.
"So, Serafall. What do we do now?" I asked, looking at Serafall's smiling face, which for some reason was glowing.
"How about we eat together?" Serafall said, already thinking of a magical girl restaurant.
"Very well! Show me the way." I told Serafall, who jumped and transformed into a magical girl, showing a good part of her panties while making a "teehee" face.
A magic circle appeared under us, teleporting us away.
I just hope to finish this and help my girls train for a power-up. Maybe I should give one of the essences to Serafall. (A/N: He can now give lower versions of his essences.)
When the teleportation ended, we were in Japan. We came out of an alley, and we could see several beauties. All the girls were dressed in magical girl outfits. My eyebrows and mouth couldn't help but twitch.
"Levia-Than! The usual?" asked a girl who made poses while twirling her little magic wand at the restaurant entrance.
**
After half an hour exploring the magical girl world, I finally got to ask Serafall my question, now that we were eating.
"So, Sera. Why was I summoned to the council? If I understand correctly, I didn't do anything. I ended up just watching what you Maous were doing. And even Lord Glasya-Labolas wasn't complaining about the current union between our houses. So why was I summoned?" I asked her. She stopped eating her food, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and then spoke.
"You will come with me to the next meeting with Olympus. It was a test to see if my lessons were good enough for you. In other words, to see if you wouldn't explode when a devil tried to provoke you with words." I nodded my head as I waited for her to continue.
"The current peace between the Devils and Olympus is very fragile. Currently, we share the underworld space. And occasionally, some reaper invades our territory, trying to reap devils. Fortunately, many of them are killed when it's proven that one of our kind has died." Serafall said in a solemn tone.
"Hmm... I thought we were at peace?" I asked Serafall, who gave me an apologetic smile.
"No, Riser. You could say it's an armistice at best. That's why we can kill their Reapers with extreme prejudice. Besides entering our territory, they take the life of one of ours. This makes Hades claim that the reaper acted on his own free will." Serafall affirmed, speaking about Hades with anger.
"I understand. That's why you're negotiating with Olympus. Even though Hades is the strongest in his pantheon, he ends up following what Zeus or Olympus decides as a whole. Since he is subject to power restrictions by his own brothers and nephew, it's almost like a system of checks and balances. You're using them to prevent the conflict from escalating." I said to Serafall, who had a smile on her face and patted my head.
"That's right, Riser-chan. I see my lessons are very effective. I'm happy to help you in some way." Riser's cheeks blushed from being treated like a child in the restaurant. He wanted to retort to Serafall, but since she had thick skin, if he did anything, she might turn against him.
As I was about to finish talking to Serafall, I felt an energy that for some reason was familiar but also different. It was from a deity of the Greek pantheon. It was connected to me. No. But to my armor. Or what it represented, the Phoenix constellation reverberating its power.
I knew I had to move forward and find whoever was coming.
(Pov Athena...)
WHOOSH!
The cold air of the underworld whipped my face as I descended from the Olympian skies. My golden armor gleamed under the dim light of this shadowy realm, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness.
"So this is where the demons dwell," I murmured to myself, landing softly on the rocky ground.
CRACK!
Small stones cracked under my feet as I took my first steps on this hostile terrain. The air was thick with a strange, oppressive energy. It was as if the very environment rejected my divine presence.
SNIFF! SNIFF!
I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to catch any trace of the Phoenix's energy. There it was, a faint spark on the horizon, calling out to me.
"Riser," I whispered the name of the demon who dared to wield the sacred armor. "Who are you really?"
TAP! TAP! TAP!
My footsteps echoed as I advanced, determined to find answers. The landscape around me was desolate: jagged rocks, bubbling rivers of lava, and a blood-red sky. (A/N: Transition scene between the Greek and Biblical underworlds.)
WHOOSH!
A gust of hot wind hit me, bringing with it the smell of sulfur and... something else. Something familiar.
"Impossible," I murmured, my eyes widening in surprise.
PING!
The resonance I felt grew stronger, almost painful. It was as if the Phoenix armor was screaming, begging to be heard.
THUMP! THUMP!
My heart raced. I was close, very close. I rounded a rocky corner and...
GASP!
There he was. Riser Phenex, the demon who challenged everything I thought I knew about the universe. He was standing with his back to me, his imposing silhouette framed against the red sky. And wearing the Phoenix armor as if it were a second skin.
"So you came," he said, his voice surprisingly melodious for a being of darkness.
SWISH!
Riser turned slowly, his eyes meeting mine. For a moment, I was speechless. It wasn't just the armor that surprised me, but the aura emanating from him. It was... familiar.
"How...?" I began, my voice failing.
He smiled, a smile that seemed to carry the weight of a thousand secrets. "Athena, goddess of wisdom. I figured you would be the first to come."
CRACKLE!
Golden flames danced around him, a spectacle of power and beauty that left me mesmerized for an instant.
"The armor," I finally managed to say. "How did you obtain it? How dare you profane a sacred relic?"
Riser laughed, a sound that echoed through the rocks around us. "Profane? My dear goddess, I haven't profaned anything. The armor chose me."
WHOOSH!
With a gesture, he made the flames intensify, forming the silhouette of a majestic phoenix behind him.
"See," he continued, his voice now softer. "The essence of the Phoenix has always existed in me. The armor merely recognized that. And it's not even your armor. This is my version of it."
I frowned, my mind racing to process this information. "Impossible. You are a demon, a being of darkness. How could you..."
PING!
Once again, I felt that resonance. But now it was different. It wasn't just the armor calling to me; it was something deeper, more ancient.
"You feel it, don't you?" Riser asked, taking a step toward me. "The connection. The balance."
THUMP! THUMP!
My heart was pounding furiously. I wanted to deny it, to fight against this strange sensation invading me. But I couldn't.
"What are you?" I whispered.
Riser smiled again, extending his hand to me. "I am what I have always been destined to be. A link between worlds, a bearer of light in the darkness."
CRACKLE! SWOOSH!
The flames around us danced more intensely, as if responding to his words.
"Athena," he continued, his eyes fixed on mine. "The world is changing. The old divisions between light and dark, good and evil, are dissolving. We need to adapt, or we will be left behind."
I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his words. Part of me wanted to reject all this, to cling to the truths I had known for millennia. But another part...
PING!
The resonance reached its peak, and suddenly, I understood. I saw flashes of a future where gods and demons were no longer enemies, but allies against greater threats.
"Riser," I said, my voice trembling slightly. "What do you propose?"
He smiled, a smile full of hope and promise. "An alliance, my dear Athena. A chance to rewrite the destiny of the realms."
WHOOSH!
The wind blew once more, but now it seemed filled with infinite possibilities.
I looked at Riser's outstretched hand, knowing that my next decision would change the course of history forever.
"May the gods help us," I murmured, extending my own hand.
FLASH!
The moment our hands touched, an explosion of golden light enveloped us, sealing a pact that transcended mortal understanding.
The fate of the realms was about to change. And I didn't know what this feeling in my heart was.
