Chapter 90: I thought I only had a Big Hole, turns out I also have a Tiny Hole
"This is really… this is really deep!"
The shout echoed through the deep hole, only stopping after a few breaths. The specialists that Karl have requested arrived sooner than expected. They were called upon yesterday, and yet here they were already fascinated about the deep hole that Viel created.
Viel, for some reason, felt uncomfortable at seeing these specialists that were invited by Lord Karl. Their excited faces reminded him of Sofia. All of them were wearing spectacles as well.
"It would take almost half an hour for us to reach the bottom", a black-haired specialist said, "Let's hurry and have the lift set up so we don't lose precious time!"
As soon as he said that, a bunch of men entered the wine cellar. Carrying woods, ropes, and various tools.
The men proceeded to saw and hammer the woods at a rapid rate.
Viel, who was watching on the side with Emi and Silbern could not help but yawn, "We could just jump and relax on the way down"
One of the specialists who had the biggest spectacle could not help but fix his glasses, "So, you're the famous Mr. Voice that has been spreading all over the country…", said the big spectacled man as he approached Viel with a curious gaze.
All over the country? What kind of promotion is Antoinette doing!? Thought Emi as her eyes widened in surprise.
The man with the big spectacles started to examine Viel, touching his hair and muscles. Now Viel is really weirded out. Sofia did this as well the first time they met, he really should avoid this kind of weird people in the future.
Looking at Viel's uncomfortable expression, Emi could not help but chuckle. Serves you right, she thought.
She then placed her attention towards Felix, who was quietly observing from behind.
"Where's Karl?"
"Master Karl is currently doing papers, it seems he was not able to finish last night because he injured his ankle"
"I…I see", Emi chuckled awkwardly, "So, no chance of him going down?"
"Afraid not, Miss Emilia. We were just told to report everything that we find here"
"Hm.."
Finally after another hour, Viel can finally breathe properly as the specialists placed their attention on the lift, and they all rode down, excited to see what awaited them in this deep dark and huge hole.
It only took a minute of awkwardly standing on the lift together for Viel to get bored.
"This is so slow", complained Viel, "Silbern, want to jump down?"
"Let's go!"
Thus, the Viel carried Silbern as they jumped out of the lift.
"D-did they just jump?", a female specialist could not believe what she just saw.
"As expected of a future Gold rank adventurer, I should get his autograph later", admired the spectacled specialist.
The only thing that Emi could do was sigh, she also wished that she could jump from this lift. Being left with these specialists and old man Felix was… exhausting.
It took a couple of minutes before the group finally reached the end of the hole. And the inside truly was massive. It looked like a cave that could cover the entire city if it wanted to.
"I see you have reached this far, children"
It was when all of them stepped out that they noticed that Viel was currently sitting on a throne made from the cave's rocks. Silbern was beside him, using Viel's hair as a fake beard.
"We have been waiting for you… for more than a hundred yea-"
Viel could not even finish what he was going to say when a bright light was casted by one of the specialists.
"Agh! The light! It burns…", Viel staggered out of the throne and groveled on the ground, "Silbern…Silbern, are you there?"
"Yes, Master Viel!", Silbern quickly kneeled on the ground and held Viel's reaching hand.
"Come closer", Viel signaled Silbern, "All my treasures…don't give it… to her", said Viel as he pointed at Emi.
"Stop fooling around!", Emi wanted to pull her hair already. Maybe she should have left earlier this morning, she thought.
Finished with his play, Viel stood up as he patted the dirt from his clothes. Old man Felix, who was watching from behind approached him and handed him a towel to clean himself up.
Returning to his usual stoic expression, Viel pointed at a certain direction.
All the people that were watching Viel's charade looked at the direction he was pointing to.
"T-that's…"
What Viel said was not an exaggeration, perhaps it may even be an understatement.
The door was gigantic. It towered them enough that the light spell the specialist was using almost did not reach the top edge of the door.
"H-how could something like this be buried under the manor…", Emi could not help but be in awe. She has visited Karl's castle frequently when they were younger, but they never once heard that there was something like this buried underneath.
"This is amazing!", the spectacled specialist hollered as he ran towards the colossal door, "Look! These runes… they must have been here for almost a hundred years, and yet they still contain some mana!"
Hearing this, all the specialist rushed towards the door. Touching it all over the place, one was even trying to lick it.
"Amazing! This is truly an amazing find!"
"Just how did you find this place!?", the female specialist looked at Viel in awe.
"Oh, not me. Him", said Viel as he pointed at Silbern.
"This gray-haired boy?", all of the specialists curiously approached Silbern.
"Y-yes, it is very weak… But I could feel mommy inside"
"Mommy?", the female specialist could not help but be confused.
"Oh, that's right. Mr. Voice here is on a quest to find Silbern's mother", Emi said as she patted Silbern's head.
"And it's related to this door?", one of the specialists murmured, "Interesting… interesting"
As the specialists were currently lost in thought, Felix, who had been watching from behind, coughed.
"If the door really has been here for a hundred years, maybe it is best we leave it alone", said Albert.
"Ha? Nonsense, old man! Where is your sense of adventure!?", Emi clapped her hands. And it would seem the specialists and Silbern agree, as they were nodding their heads from Emi's words.
"Now, to do what we are being paid here to do", all the specialists returned to the front of the door, "How exactly do we open this?"
---
4 hours have passed, Viel and Silbern were now bathing in the sunlight, drinking their fruit juices as they relaxed on the ground. Emi was between them, gently drinking a cup of tea.
…
"No!", Emi threw the cup of tea she was holding towards the sun above them. The hovering orb of light was pushed to the side as the cup hit it, once again covering the three of them with the darkness of the cavern.
"Aren't you guys done!?", shouted Emi as she walked near to the door.
"Ah, Miss Swift Cat. This proved very difficult, but we are actually already done", one of the specialists answered, "We just need to inject some mana here and the keyhole should appear. We could probably try to replicate the key once we see it"
"Then get it over with!"
"Well, we need a large amount of mana for it to activate", the spectacled specialist answered, "But we lack the-"
"Is there where we need to supply the mana?"
Before the spectacled specialist can finish explaining, Viel interrupted him. He was now currently in front of the mechanism that the specialists found.
"Yes, but as we said, we need atleast 20 people to-"
Once again the specialist was interrupted before he can finish explaining. The colossal door started to lit up. The light streamed on the wall, crawling all over it until it almost covered the entire thing.
"This… Mr. Voice!?", Emi's jaws opened wide.
"This is…impossible…", the spectacled specialist murmured, "You really are a future gold rank! Amazing! Truly amazing!"
"No, you will exceed gold rank! You might even surpass the Royal Spectacled Beautiful Mage!"
The specialists amazement reflected Emi's confusion. Viel… was supposed to be a fighter, right? Her thoughts jumbled up.
And as the stream of light stopped crawling, a metallic sound filled the cave as a small hole suddenly opened in the very center of the colossal door.
"…"
"Well, I'm not going to fit there", stoically commented Viel as he looked at the arm-width hole that appeared.
"This is it! This is the keyhole!", all the specialists were once again filled with excitement, but it quickly died down as soon as they examined it.
"This… there's nothing of note here…"
"It's just a hole", said one of the specialists as he stuck his arm inside the tiny hole.
But then, a light appeared from beside them. Silbern, who had been staring at the whole for a while, started to light up. His once gray hair turned silver as it waved in the air.
And slowly, he walked towards the hole without even as much as a flicker on his face. Although the specialists were curious, they stepped aside so that they could see what he was going to do.
"…What in the heavens is going on here", Emi said as she watched the scene unfold right before her eyes.
But it was then, right when Silbern was about to place his arms inside the hole that a small flash of silver glimmered through the air.
It wafted in between the specialists in blinding speed.
Emi was only able to see a flicker of it as it passed her, but she was sure, it was a knife.
"No!", Emi tried to run towards the knife to try and catch it, but she was too late. The knife was only a few inches away from piercing Silbern's head.
Emi could only close her eyes, not wanting to see a small boy die. She then turned around to confront the one who threw the knife.
"What is the meaning of this, old man Felix?"
"I told you to leave the door alone, why are you humans so stubborn?", a cold voice filled the air as Felix slowly stepped out of the darkness.
"You just killed a child!", Emi quickly unsheathed her blades, "Why!?"
"Well-"
But before he could even reply, Felix's arm shattered as it was blasted into two pieces. A crack of thunder could be heard as the wall behind him exploded.
"What the!?", Emi could only flinch in bewilderment.
Felix calmly looked behind him, only to see the knife he threw at Silbern embedded in the wall, "Interesting", said Felix as he turned his head towards where Silbern was.
And there, blocking Silbern, was Viel with his arm stretched forward.
His eyes, as cold as Felix's.
