Chapter 67: Slaying the Zombie King

In a rush, Su Ling glanced at the system and selected control when she saw a small zombie icon on the control bar. However, the next moment, the system prompted a failure message: "Advanced zombies cannot be controlled."

At this moment, the zombie's claws were already approaching Sheng Hongye. In desperation, Er Lei fired another shot, but Sheng Hongye was quicker. With a mysterious twist of his body, he moved to the side of the zombie.

Stepping on a bag of grains, he leaped into the air and delivered a powerful punch to the zombie's temple. A muffled sound echoed, causing the zombie to stagger, but it also ignited its greater ferocity. It roared and lunged towards Sheng Hongye.

Su Ling tried to control the zombie again, only to receive the same message: "Advanced zombies cannot be controlled." It seemed that like the system, her mental control also had limitations, allowing her to control only beings of similar or lower levels.

Sheng Hongye jumped onto the bag of grains again, and from above, he delivered another punch to the zombie's head. A crisp cracking sound followed as the zombie's head tilted.

Howling, the zombie adjusted its head back in place and immediately turned towards Su Ling.

Startled, Su Ling fired a shot, causing the zombie to falter in its steps before redirecting its attention to the unarmed Geng Hao.

"Use your ability!" Su Ling urgently called out when she saw Geng Hao retreating.

Geng Hao, as if awakening from a nightmare, mustered a small electric arc, about a few inches long.

Han Qiang also reached out, but unfortunately, his flame was barely the size of a palm.

Cursing, he said, "What the hell is going on?!"

The woman, who had been silent for a while, spoke again. Trembling, she hugged her shoulders, her voice filled with despair, "It's useless. Wang Yuanhang said the zombie king can suppress abilities. In front of it, ability cannot be used."

Er Lei fired another shot to draw the zombie king's attention. Han Qiang and Geng Hao tried to use their abilities again, but to no avail.

Chen Yu couldn't help but curse, "This is bad! This thing is harder than iron. It doesn't even get a scratch on its head. Are we done for here?"

Su Ling's hand holding the gun was covered in sweat. The zombie king was indeed different from ordinary zombies. A single shot could easily blow off an ordinary zombie's head, but the king's bones were as hard as steel, showing no reaction to the bullets.

Sheng Hongye fired a shot at the zombie king, drawing its attention once more. "Everyone, retreat to the door!" he shouted and jumped onto a bag of grains.

"Mr. Sheng, let me help you!" Despite his injury, Er Lei climbed up another bag to join Sheng Hongye.

The zombie king was drawn towards the two men and climbed up the bag of grains.

Sheng Hongye shouted again, "We'll distract the zombie, you find a way to unlock the door!"

Chen Yu immediately picked up the gun and smashed it against the lock, resulting in a loud clash of metal that sent sparks flying in the dim space. However, the lock remained undamaged.

Frowning, Su Ling shifted her gaze back to the woman. "What other information do you know? If you want to live, tell us everything at once."

The woman seemed fearful of Su Ling, shrinking into the corner of the wall. Her nervous eyes fixed on the gun as she stammered, "I don't have any abilities or combat skills. They don't value me much, and what I've told you is all I know. Wang Yuanhang sent the three of us here as sacrificial pawns."

Su Ling couldn't help but curse, "This scum! Haven't they researched the weaknesses of the zombie king?"

In a trembling voice, the woman replied, "If they had a way to deal with the zombie king, they wouldn't have tricked you to come in here."

Then, as if recalling something, she added, "I remember one thing. Your base was blown up by his people."

Indeed, someone had tampered with it. The strange and ridiculous appearance of Wang Yuanhang flashed in Su Ling's eyes, and a coldness surged within her. She turned her attention back to the zombie king but accidentally caught sight of the shotgun in her hand.

She had always used the system to reinforce the building's defense. Uncertain if it could reinforce offensive items as well, she immediately used the reinforcement skill on her shotgun.

To her surprise, it succeeded on the first try.

The system displayed the message: Speed increased by thirty percent, penetration power increased by thirty percent, and killing power increased by thirty percent.

Su Ling's face lit up with joy and, taking advantage of Sheng Hongye and Er Lei's confrontation with the zombie king, she repeatedly reinforced the gun.

Perhaps due to the smaller size of the gun, after two failed attempts, Su Ling successfully increased the gun's speed, penetration power, and killing power by ninety percent each.

At this moment, Sheng Hongye jumped into the air again and smashed the zombie's head with a punch. A crisp sound rang out in the darkness, and a crack appeared on the zombie's head, leaving its eyes blank.

Su Ling opened her mouth in astonishment. Was this the power of a human?

Sheng Hongye was truly terrifying.

She raised the gun as well and, seizing the opportunity when Sheng Hongye dodged, she quickly pulled the trigger.

With a muffled bang, the bullet hit the zombie king's forehead, followed by an explosive sound as its head shattered like a damaged watermelon.

With a gnashing howl, the zombie twisted in the darkness and collapsed to the ground with a thud.

Everyone was stunned and turned to look at Su Ling.

"Sister Su Ling, your shot was too powerful," Chen Yu said with envy after what felt like an eternity.

Only then did the group recover their senses; the zombie king was dead.

Su Ling coughed lightly and said, "It was Mr. Sheng who broke through the zombie king's defenses, giving me the opportunity."

Sheng Hongye jumped down, his fingers touching the zombie's bones. He seemed to sense something new within him, a flash of insight passed through his mind but before he could contemplate further, he swiftly moved to the door.

"Let's talk about the rest later; first, let's open the door." He picked up the shotgun, cocked it, but there were no bullets. Su Ling hurriedly handed hers to him.

"Use this one."

Sheng Hongye took the gun with a nod, fired two shots, and with a crisp sound, the lock opened.

Chen Yu once again widened his eyes. "Isn't that the same shotgun? Why couldn't I do it?"

Geng Hao had already begun carrying the food. "Brother Sheng, let's bring some back."

Sheng Hongye shook his head and said coldly, "No need to take anything. We haven't found a suitable place to settle yet, and this place is perfect. No one else should get a single grain."

Han Qiang immediately agreed, "That's right, Brother Sheng. You stay here and guard; Geng Hao and I will go back to get Miss Guan and Professor Bai."

Sheng Hongye nodded and ordered, "Er Lei, you go too."

Er Lei acknowledged, picked up his gun and followed the two men out.

Not far away, Wang Yuanhang was looking through the binoculars, observing the situation there. He hadn't expected Sheng Hongye's group to kill the zombie king, but as long as they exhausted it, he would have an opportunity.

However, when he raised his head, he saw three people walking out from inside.

He dropped the binoculars in shock.

"F*ck, they actually made it out alive!"
