POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Rest and Reorganization

"Pidgeotto, use Wing Attack!" Ash's voice was firm, directing his recently-evolved Pokémon to take charge. The battle had narrowed down to a single Beedrill, and Ash saw this as a perfect opportunity for Pidgeotto to test its newfound strength.

"Pi-dgeooo!" Pidgeotto let out a sharp cry, spreading its powerful wings as energy gathered on them. The bird soared into action, moving with a sharp burst of speed toward its opponent.

"Beeeedrill!" The lone Beedrill braced itself, not willing to back down. Its Twineedles glowed faintly as it launched into a Fury Attack, stabbing repeatedly in an attempt to repel Pidgeotto.

But Pidgeotto remained calm. It remembered Ash's earlier teachings to focus and think before attacking. Just as Beedrill's strikes came close, Pidgeotto shifted to the side, dodging gracefully. Beedrill, caught off guard, hesitated for a moment—a mistake it couldn't afford.

"Bang!" Pidgeotto's wings slammed into Beedrill's back with a resounding impact, the force of the blow creating a faint shockwave. Beedrill was hurled nearly ten meters before crashing into the ground. Its energy completely spent, the Bug/Poison-type fainted without even a cry.

"Well done, Pidgeotto!" Ash exclaimed, pumping his fist in excitement. Pikachu scampered to his side, clearly sharing in the victory.

"Pi-dgeooo!" Pidgeotto cried out happily, landing gracefully on Ash's outstretched arm as he praised it with a smile.

Before the celebrations could continue, Misty emerged from the surrounding grass, looking guilty. "Ash... I'm sorry," she murmured, her head hung low. She hadn't been able to help during the chaotic encounter with the swarm of Beedrill, and the thought weighed heavily on her.

Ash shook his head. "No, Misty. If anything, I should be the one apologizing. If I hadn't captured that Weedle, we wouldn't have angered the Beedrill swarm in the first place."

Misty looked unconvinced. "But I couldn't do anything to help. We're partners... I should have done something."

Ash hesitated, unsure how to ease her guilt. Finally, he reached out and placed a comforting hand on her head. "Then make this your motivation, Misty. Work on overcoming your fear of Bug Pokémon. Next time, when we're in a tough spot, I'll rely on you to protect us."

Misty blinked, surprised at the unexpected gesture. Her face turned slightly pink as she nodded without a word.

By afternoon, the two had found a quiet spot to set up their tents. After the intense battle earlier, Ash decided it was best to let Pikachu and Pidgeotto rest while he reviewed their morning performance.

"Pidgeotto, do you feel different after the battle?" Ash asked, noticing the bird shifting around uneasily.

"Pi-dgeooo!" Pidgeotto flapped its wings energetically, as if trying to express something.

Misty watched curiously. "Wait, do you understand what it's saying?" she asked in surprise.

Ash scratched his head sheepishly. "Well, I wouldn't say I understand everything. It's more like... I can sense what they mean from their expressions and movements."

Misty looked at him in awe. "That's amazing! Only top breeders can do something like that. How did you learn it?"

Ash shrugged, unconcerned. "I didn't really learn it. I guess it just comes naturally after spending time with Pokémon. It helps me know what they need or how they feel."

Misty sighed. "You don't even realize how rare that is, do you?" she muttered to herself before turning her attention back to the campfire.

As they talked, Pidgeotto took flight, practicing Quick Attack in the nearby forest. It zoomed between the trees with increasing speed, dodging branches as it worked to perfect the move.

---

Later that afternoon, Misty made a decision.

"I need to face my fear of Bug Pokémon," she announced suddenly. "I'm going to find a Bug-type Pokémon and battle it."

Ash offered to accompany her, but Misty shook her head. "If you're there, I'll rely on you too much. I need to do this alone."

Though reluctant, Ash respected her resolve. He stayed behind, organizing the camp and checking on Pikachu, who was napping soundly after its earlier exertion.

With some time to spare, Ash decided to focus on his newest capture. He retrieved Weedle's Poké Ball and released it. The tiny Bug Pokémon blinked up at him, clearly still recovering from the morning's events.

"Hey, Weedle," Ash said softly, crouching down to its level. He held out an Oran Berry. "Here, this will help you feel better."

"Wee-dle!" The Pokémon hesitated for a moment, but the enticing aroma of the berry—and its own growling stomach—overpowered any doubts. It began nibbling eagerly, finishing the fruit in no time.

"That's a good start," Ash said with a smile. "From now on, we're a team. I'll do my best to help you grow stronger."

Weedle looked up at him, its eyes shining with newfound trust.

---

Meanwhile, Misty wandered through the forest, determined to confront her fears. Memories of being chased by the Beedrill swarm earlier flashed through her mind, but she pushed them aside.

She spotted a lone Caterpie on a tree branch and hesitated. Her hands trembled slightly as she reached for her Poké Ball. "I can do this," she whispered, summoning her courage.

Back at the camp, Ash was lost in thought, reflecting on the day's events. He felt responsible for putting Misty in danger and silently vowed to be more careful in the future.

Pidgeotto soon returned from its training, landing gracefully by the campfire. Its Quick Attack had noticeably improved, and Ash praised its efforts. "Great job, Pidgeotto. You're getting faster every time."

Pidgeotto chirped happily, preening its feathers. Pikachu stirred from its nap, joining the group as the sun dipped lower in the sky.

As they waited for Misty to return, Ash thought about how far they had come on their journey. Each challenge, whether it was battling wild Pokémon or supporting each other as a team, brought them closer together.

---

It wasn't long before Misty reappeared at the edge of the camp, her expression a mix of pride and exhaustion.

"I did it," she announced, holding up her Poké Ball. "I battled a Caterpie all by myself."

Ash grinned. "That's awesome, Misty! See? I knew you could do it."

Misty's confidence grew a little as she sat by the fire, recounting her experience. Though her fear wasn't entirely gone, she felt a newfound determination to keep improving.

As the stars began to dot the night sky, the group settled in for the evening. Ash fed Weedle another berry, patting its small head gently. "You'll be a big part of our team, Weedle. I promise to help you reach your full potential."

Weedle let out a soft sound of agreement, curling up beside Pikachu to rest. Pidgeotto perched on a nearby branch, keeping watch over the campsite.

Ash leaned back against his backpack, gazing at the stars. Despite the day's challenges, he felt a deep sense of accomplishment. His Pokémon were growing stronger, and so was his bond with his friends.

"Tomorrow's another day," he murmured to himself, already planning their next steps. With Misty by his side and his Pokémon team steadily improving, Ash felt ready to face whatever lay ahead.
