POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Thunderbolt and Evolution

"This... this is Thunderbolt?!" Ash's eyes sparkled with amazement. He hadn't expected Pikachu to master the move at this critical moment. Although they had been training for two days, Pikachu had seemed far from grasping this signature attack.

Yet, under the current circumstances, Pikachu broke through, learning Thunderbolt on the spot and taking down four Beedrill in one move. The tide of the battle was shifting in their favor.

The remaining Beedrill buzzed nervously, retreating from Pikachu. Their usually fearless eyes now showed hesitation and fear.

Pikachu, meanwhile, stared at its own hands in disbelief. Sparks crackled from its electric pouches as realization dawned—it had finally mastered the move it had trained so hard for: Thunderbolt!

"That's amazing, Pikachu!" Ash clenched his fists with excitement. "Let's use it again! Show them the real Thunderbolt!"

"Pika!" Pikachu responded enthusiastically. Following the sensation it had just discovered, it summoned Electric-type energy. A fierce thunderbolt erupted from its body, targeting the three Beedrill ahead.

One Beedrill managed to dodge, but the other two weren't as lucky. The golden lightning engulfed them, leaving their silhouettes visible for a brief moment before they fell unconscious to the ground.

Now, of the fifteen Beedrill that had attacked them, only eight remained standing.

Watching Pikachu's display of power, Pidgey couldn't hide its admiration. A look of envy flashed in its eyes. I want to be like Pikachu someday... it thought, flapping its wings with determination.

With renewed vigor, Pidgey unleashed another Gust attack. The Beedrill, already shaken by Pikachu's thunderbolt, struggled against the strong winds. After three rounds of Gust, their stamina began to wane.

Suddenly, one of the Beedrill emitted a sharp cry. The remaining group gathered around it, combining their efforts to stabilize themselves against the wind. This collective defense halted Pidgey's attack.

Ash's eyes lit up. "Pikachu, this is our chance! Use Thunderbolt on them now!"

With the Beedrill clustered together, Pikachu unleashed another Thunderbolt. The space around them seemed to darken momentarily as the electric surge illuminated everything with a blinding golden light.

When the energy dissipated, Pikachu stood panting heavily. The power of Thunderbolt was extraordinary, but the move drained a lot of energy. Pikachu's current strength, though impressive for its level, couldn't sustain such powerful attacks without consequence. After using Thunderbolt twice in quick succession, Pikachu was visibly fatigued.

Unlike the Pokémon games, where moves have a set number of uses (PP), real-life Pokémon battles depend on a Pokémon's energy reserves. This energy is tied directly to its physical stamina. For Pikachu, the back-to-back use of Thunderbolt had taken a toll.

Still, the effort was worth it. Most of the Beedrill had been defeated, leaving only one. The danger seemed to be over.

Or so Ash thought.

"Ash!" Misty's terrified scream shattered the momentary relief.

Ash turned to see a Beedrill behind him, its sharp twin needles glowing with Bug-type energy as it lunged at him.

Ash froze. The Beedrill was too close—less than five meters away. At its speed, there was no time to dodge.

"Pika!" Pikachu tried to move, but its legs gave out from exhaustion. It could only watch helplessly, terror in its eyes.

Just as the Beedrill's stinger was about to strike, a shadow streaked through the air. A white, translucent energy surrounded Pidgey as it shot forward with incredible speed.

"Wave!"

Pidgey collided with Beedrill mid-air, knocking it away from Ash. The force of the impact sent the Beedrill crashing to the ground.

"Pidgey!" Ash gasped, still shaken by how close he'd come to being stung.

Pidgey hovered mid-air, its body glowing with vibrant, multicolored light. The energy pulsed around it, completely enveloping the small bird Pokémon.

"It's evolving!" Ash exclaimed, watching in awe.

As the radiant energy faded, Pidgey's form had changed. The small, scrappy bird had transformed into a larger and more majestic Pokémon—Pidgeotto!

Pidgeotto

Type: Normal/Flying

Category: Bird Pokémon

Ability: Keen Eye or Tangled Feet (Hidden Ability: Big Pecks)

Keen Eye: Prevents accuracy from being lowered.

The evolved Pidgeotto was at least three times the size of its previous form. Its plumage was more vibrant, and three pink feathers adorned its head, giving it an air of power and confidence.

"Pideooo!" Pidgeotto cried out, marveling at its newfound strength and form.

Ash couldn't believe it. "It actually evolved…!"

The Beedrill Pidgeotto had knocked away recovered and took to the air again, but this time it hesitated. Flying-type Pokémon like Pidgeotto were natural predators of Bug-types like Beedrill. Now that its allies were defeated, the lone Beedrill looked visibly intimidated.

"That move... it was Quick Attack," Ash realized. The speed and precision with which Pidgey had attacked left no doubt in his mind. Not only had Pidgey evolved into Pidgeotto, but it had also learned Quick Attack in the process.

Ash's excitement grew. Not only had Pikachu learned Thunderbolt during the battle, but now Pidgeotto had evolved and become stronger.

"Beedrill…" The lone Beedrill hesitated, buzzing nervously. It knew the odds were against it now.

Ash smiled confidently. "Pidgeotto, let's finish this with Gust!"

Pidgeotto flapped its powerful wings, summoning a strong wind. The Beedrill struggled to resist, but the force of Pidgeotto's attack was overwhelming. With a final screech, the Beedrill was blown away, disappearing into the distance.

The battle was over.

Ash, Pikachu, and Pidgeotto stood victorious. The forest, once alive with the aggressive buzzing of Beedrill, was now quiet. Misty emerged from her hiding spot, looking both relieved and impressed.

"You really pulled it off, Ash," Misty said, smiling. "But maybe next time, don't almost get yourself killed!"

Ash laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, I'll, uh, work on that."

He turned to Pikachu and Pidgeotto. "You two were amazing! I couldn't have done it without you."

"Pika…" Pikachu managed a weak but happy smile, still exhausted from the battle.

"Pideooo!" Pidgeotto flapped its wings proudly, thrilled with its evolution and newfound strength.

As the group began to make their way out of the forest, Ash couldn't help but feel proud. His Pokémon were growing stronger, and so was he.

This was just the beginning of their journey, but if today had proven anything, it was that they could overcome any challenge as long as they worked together.
