Chapter 309: Chapter 309

It had been half a month since Dak arrived in the Uzumaki clan.

During this time, he watched helplessly as the Uzumaki's distress calls for help went unanswered, and the atmosphere in Uzushio Village grew heavier by the day.

In this half month, the mission completion rate of the Uzumaki clan was a mere 10%.

Out of ten squads sent out, only seven or eight would return, while the remaining two or three would vanish without a trace.

Now, there were hardly any commissions being issued to Uzushio Village, and the clan's ninja had resorted to staying cooped up in the village, too afraid to venture out.

The future of Uzushio Village was bleakly evident.

They would continuously exchange the lives of their ninja for resources to survive. Once their strength was sufficiently depleted, the predators lurking outside would pounce, tearing them apart.

"Even basic information can't get through anymore," Dak muttered as he sat by the window of his inn, gazing at the desolate streets outside.

Uzushio Village was now forcibly isolated from the world. Out of every ten distress letters sent to Konoha, only one might reach its destination, and even that cost them considerable manpower.

For the past half month, clan meetings in Uzushio Village were held almost daily.

The internal conflict among the Uzumaki clan's leadership had become increasingly apparent and severe.

The conflict had split them into two factions.

One faction insisted on holding the village, waiting for Konoha's rescue.

The other, distrustful of Konoha, advocated gathering their strength to break out and find a way to survive, believing it to be better than dying trapped here.

At the core of this division was the appearance of the Uchiha brothers, Madara and Izuna, which led many younger Uzumaki ninja to believe that leaving the village could offer a chance to join Madara.

Uzumaki Arina was the leader of the holdout faction, supported by many of the clan's older generation of ninja.

They preferred to wait for Konoha's rescue, believing they could hold out for a few years with their strength until Konoha recovered.

On the other side, Uzumaki Asahi led the breakout faction.

Asahi, a seventeen-year-old with striking red hair, had significant influence among the younger generation of Uzumaki ninja under thirty. His strong vitality made him a captivating figure.

"If nothing unexpected happens, today should be the day."

Dak shifted his gaze toward the Uzumaki clan's council hall.

Yesterday, a tragedy occurred.

Asahi's parents were killed during a mission, and their bodies were hung not far from the village gates.

This event undoubtedly had a profound impact on Asahi. Out of grief or anger, it was almost certain he would rally some of the clan to break out today.

"Sir Dak, will you come with us? If we don't leave now..."

In one corner of the room, Uzumaki Fuso was folding Dak's freshly laundered clothes. The inn offered laundry services for its guests.

Over the past half month, the pressure on Uzumaki Village had become increasingly unbearable. Fuso's parents, who went on a mission, had yet to return. Deep down, she knew their fate but chose to feign ignorance.

Dak had once asked Fuso for information about the outside world, sparking a conversation that became a lifeline for the girl, distracting her from her pain. Over time, the two became close enough to be considered friends.

"Of course," Dak replied with a smile.

Asahi was Fuso's neighbor and older brother figure. After learning of Asahi's plan to escape and Fuso's intention to join, Dak immediately agreed to accompany them.

Dak had already guessed how the original story might unfold.

This escape would likely allow some Uzumaki clan members to survive, including Fuso, who would later hide in the Land of Rain and give birth to Nagato. Uzumaki Karin's mother might also be part of this group.

However, after crossing the ocean, they were likely ambushed again, leading to the clan's dispersion across various lands, with most members either killed or hiding their identities permanently.

As for Arina's holdout faction, they were likely doomed to die defending the village.

When night fell, Uzumaki Village suddenly grew restless.

"Sir Dak, it's time to go."

The door opened, and Fuso stood ready with her pack.

"Alright, I have nothing to bring," Dak replied calmly.

The Uzumaki clan chose to escape under the cover of night—a reasonable choice given their extraordinary sensory abilities, which turned the darkness into an ally.

Upon reaching the meeting point, Dak observed that only about fifty people were willing to join Asahi's escape, most of them young ninja. Ordinary civilians were scarce, likely too afraid to risk it.

Asahi gave Dak a brief nod before leading the group toward the northern coast, where they planned to board a ship to the Land of Fire.

"We should be safe once we reach the Land of Fire," Asahi encouraged his companions.

However, their progress was slow due to the presence of a few civilians. Asahi noticed that Dak, the green-haired man Fuso brought along, seemed unnaturally fit. While even Uzumaki genin were starting to struggle, Dak's breathing remained steady.

Suddenly, the quiet forest was filled with the sound of projectiles slicing through the air.

"Enemy detected! Keep moving north! Avoid confrontation!" Asahi barked.

But before they could proceed, a scout called out, "Asahi, there are people ahead!"

From the depths of the forest, numerous figures emerged, surrounding them from all sides.

"The plan... was leaked," Asahi muttered grimly as he activated his Adamantine Sealing Chains, striking down four incoming attackers in an instant.

"Move forward! I'll hold them off!" Asahi ordered resolutely.

"Asahi !"

"Go now! I'll buy you as much time as I can!"

Just then, Dak raised his hand, conjuring a dark red orb of light that illuminated the entire forest, revealing all enemies hidden within.

"Sir Dak?" Fuso gasped, staring wide-eyed at Dak, whom she had thought to be an ordinary man.

"Asahi," Dak called, ignoring Fuso's shock. "Would you and the Uzumaki clan join Akatsuki?"

"Akatsuki?" Asahi repeated, unfamiliar with the name and unsure of Dak's intentions.

Before he could respond, Dak unleashed a wave of crimson energy that radiated outward, incapacitating every enemy within a kilometer.

"You have three choices: continue fleeing, return to the village, or come with me. I will find someone to protect you and give you the chance to save Uzumaki Village yourselves," Dak declared, holding up three fingers.

The Uzumaki ninja turned to Asahi, their eyes filled with hope.

Asahi hesitated, uncertain of Dak's background or Akatsuki's true nature. But with no better options, he clenched his fists and made a decision.

"Sir, please take us away."
