Pokémon: A Trainer Who Masters the Six Powers from the Start

Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Waiting for Reinforcements

After learning about Kai and his team's tracking method through Machoke, Ron decided to refrain from letting Machoke or Persian engage further.

Even with the dual advantages of ambush and the Shave (Soru) technique, going up against two Pokémon with mid-tier Elite strength was still too risky.

Thus, Ron adopted a simple strategy: stall for time until Matthew and the others could arrive.

If an opportunity presented itself during this time, Ron wouldn't hesitate to strike at the Pokémon hunters or their Pokémon.

Under Ron's orders, Machoke and Persian carved a violent path, complicating Venonat's tracking efforts significantly.

Before Houndoom could recover, the three diverging paths they created were enough to leave Venonat struggling to decide which one to follow.

"Captain, the targets seem to have discovered our tracking method. There are now three routes ahead. Which one should we pursue?"

Receiving Venonat's feedback, its Trainer immediately reported to Captain Kai.

Faced with this decision, Kai and his group paused.

"Cunning little worm. Looks like they're trying to stall us, waiting for Rangers or League reinforcements to arrive."

"We'll take the middle path. Whether or not we find them within 20 minutes, we must leave immediately after!"

"Split into teams of two and search. Ensure each team has at least one Pokémon at the mid-tier Elite level.

"Their Pokémon seem to possess a high-speed movement technique, so be wary of ambushes."

Kai quickly saw through Ron's ploy and decided on a final attempt, giving himself a strict 20-minute window.

Based on the timing of their encounter, Kai calculated that 20 minutes was the maximum amount of time he could ensure a safe retreat.

If nothing came of the search within 20 minutes, Kai would have no choice but to abandon the pursuit.

Truth be told, Kai was deeply reluctant to give up.

It wasn't because he cared about his subordinates but because he wanted to vent his frustration.

Thanks to Ron, this mission was destined to fail.

When he returned, not only would he face punishment, but such lucrative assignments would be much harder to come by in the future.

For that alone, Kai wanted to tear Ron to pieces!

Still, for his own safety, Kai didn't pursue a single path recklessly but gave himself a 20-minute limit as a safeguard.

Following Kai's orders, his 12 subordinates formed five teams to search while two stayed behind to guard him.

After splitting into the three routes, Machoke and Persian regrouped with Ron midway and shifted their focus to observing Kai's movements from a distance.

When Kai's team dispersed, Machoke and Persian eagerly returned to report to Ron.

"It seems they've realized something's off and are preparing to leave. Otherwise, they wouldn't be acting like this."

"Unfortunately, Matthew and the others are still 30 minutes away at best. I can't let them leave so easily."

"Machoke, Persian, lead the way. Let's target the nearest team and see if we can take them out."

With Ron's command, Machoke and Persian sprang into action, their eyes gleaming with excitement.

Perhaps influenced by Ron, the thrill of being hunted or fighting strong enemies didn't instill fear in them; instead, it exhilarated them.

With their hidden position and the element of surprise, Ron quickly transitioned from being prey to a predator lurking in the shadows.

Guiding their Pokémon cautiously, Pandy and Hemer searched the forest.

Lacking Pokémon skilled in tracking, they relied on luck, scanning the surroundings for subtle clues.

From the shadows, Ron utilized his Fighting Aura to observe the opposing team's Pokémon and their levels:

Weepinbell (Lv. 35)

Graveler (Lv. 35)

Hitmonchan (Lv. 36)

Dodrio (Lv. 42)

Among them, Weepinbell, Graveler, and Hitmonchan posed little threat. Ron's only concern was the mid-tier Elite Dodrio.

Although Dodrio, a Normal/Flying Pokémon, cannot fly, it possesses exceptional speed—capable of running up to 60 kilometers per hour. That translates to around 16-17 meters per second.

While not every Dodrio can reach such speeds, they are undeniably swift.

Considering its mid-tier Elite strength, Ron wasn't sure how fast it could maneuver in the forest, but it could become a problem for Machoke and Persian.

For now, Ron refrained from acting recklessly. He waited patiently for the right moment.

In the forest, Persian's stealth was impeccable. The pads on its feet allowed it to follow silently behind Pandy and Hemer.

Without a tracking-specialized Pokémon, Pandy and Hemer had no chance of detecting Persian's presence.

Even when encountering wild Pokémon, Pandy and Hemer simply had their Pokémon intimidate them, avoiding unnecessary delays.

Yet, despite their efforts, 20 minutes passed in a flash.

Having called off the pursuit, Kai transmitted a rendezvous point to the dispersed teams.

"Tracking is over. Let's go."

Receiving the message, Pandy immediately spoke up, quickly heading toward Kai's designated location.

"Enemy attack!"

The rustling of leaves alerted Pandy, but his shout came too late.

Two figures—one gray, one white—darted out. In an instant, Weepinbell and Hitmonchan were down, blood pooling beneath them.

After landing their strikes, Machoke and Persian vanished back into the shadows.

Summoning Dodrio and Graveler to guard them, Pandy and Hemer wasted no time, releasing all their capable Pokémon.

Pandy hurriedly contacted Kai with his communicator. Until Kai arrived, neither he nor Hemer would dare to act rashly, not even to leave their current position.

The earlier ambush had them shaken, but at least they stabilized their defense. Moving recklessly now would only invite further mistakes.

"Ten minutes," came Kai's reply.

Back-to-back, Pandy and Hemer scanned their surroundings, cautiously guarding against another ambush.

Regardless of Ron's actions, they would stay on high alert until Kai arrived.

"Stubborn." Ron muttered, then issued a new command. "Bellossom, use Sleep Powder."

Realizing his opponents wouldn't leave any openings, Ron decided against attacking again and instead opted to wait patiently. Meanwhile, Bellossom's Sleep Powder would serve to disrupt their efforts.

Now, both sides were in a standoff, each waiting for their reinforcements to break the deadlock.

Fortunately, neither side lacked patience. The only question remaining was whose backup would arrive first.
