A massive hole, spanning from the first level of Impel Down all the way down to the fourth, hung open above the fifth level, the Frozen Hell, gradually narrowing as it descended.
The widest point of the breach was on the first level, thankfully not reaching or impacting Level Six. Numerous prisoners and guards, faces etched with shock and trepidation, gathered around the edges, peering down into the abyss. The scorching heat from Level Four, the Blazing Hell, mingled with the frigid air of Level Five.
The icy chill lessened, the searing heat tempered, creating a strange equilibrium. The breach had miraculously avoided Level 5.5, the Newkama Land. Through the gaping hole, a sliver of the sky above was visible.
Magellan's expression darkened, a growing sense of dread tightening in his gut. His eyes were fixed on the azure dragon circling in the sky above, the atmosphere heavy with anticipation.
It felt like the calm before a storm, and in the next instant, the storm broke. With a thunderous roar, the dragon plummeted towards the earth, crashing into Level One with an earth-shattering boom.
The ground trembled violently around the impact site, a hundred meters from Magellan and his guards.
From the swirling dust cloud, a towering figure emerged, a giant of a man, over eight meters tall, a spiked club slung over his shoulder. It was Kaido, one of the Four Emperors, his very presence radiating an aura of terrifying power.
"What the...." Astonishment turned to horror as recognition dawned on the faces of those who witnessed his arrival. It couldn't be… Kaido of the Beasts!
He had invaded Impel Down, and in such a dramatic fashion. A bead of sweat trickled down Magellan's forehead.
The guards surrounding Kaido, trembling hands gripping their flintlocks, stared in disbelief. Kaido's face contorted into a savage grin. "Well, well, Magellan. Long time no see."
BOOM!
A wave of Conqueror's Haki erupted from Kaido, radiating outwards with earth-shattering force. The guards, without a sound, collapsed to the ground, foaming at the mouth, their eyes rolled back in their heads.
The sheer force of his Haki shook the very foundations of Impel Down, leaving only a handful standing on Level One. The shockwave rippled downwards, impacting every level of the prison.
"Damn it!" Magellan roared, clenching his fists, his body oozing with toxic venom as he charged towards Kaido. "I don't care if you're an Emperor! This is Impel Down, and I won't let you run wild here!"
"Venom Devil: Hydra!" He unleashed the full power of his Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, the Doku Doku no Mi. Deep blue poison surged from his body, spreading like molten lava.
The ground sizzled and smoked where the venom touched, releasing noxious fumes. Magellan's eyes widened, and the venom behind him coalesced and transformed, taking the shape of a massive, multi-headed hydra, its venomous fangs dripping with corrosive poison. With a flick of Magellan's wrist, the hydra lunged towards Kaido, its gaping maws threatening to devour him whole.
Kaido, facing the onslaught, simply extended his right hand and swatted the hydra aside. An invisible vortex of force, like a miniature black hole, formed around his palm, disintegrating the venomous creature on contact.
In an instant, the hydra dissolved into a shower of deadly venom, splattering across the battlefield.
"Magellan, you're still as weak as ever." Kaido stood there, towering over Magellan, his eyes filled with disdain. There weren't many individuals he deemed worthy of remembering.
Magellan, however, was one of them. While this was his first official invasion of Impel Down, Kaido had been imprisoned here before, and they had clashed.
Kaido's physical resilience was monstrous. He had even broken free from seastone shackles, forcing the Marines to simply abandon him on a random island.
While not a match for Kaido, Magellan was stronger than any of his All-Stars, his power rivaling that of an Admiral.
"He's completely unaffected by my poison?" Magellan observed in disbelief.
Kaido casually flicked his arm, sending droplets of venom flying, showing no signs of being poisoned. A wave of despair washed over Magellan.
But he couldn't retreat. This was Impel Down, and he had a duty to protect it, even from a Yonko.
If Impel Down fell, countless dangerous criminals would escape, unleashing chaos and destruction upon the world. Innocent lives would be lost, and the world would be plunged into darkness.
"Venom Road!" Magellan clasped his hands together, launching a barrage of venom blasts at Kaido. The projectiles exploded on impact, but Kaido merely flinched, a savage grin spreading across his face as he charged towards Magellan.
"Poison? There's no poison in this world that can kill me!" Kaido roared, sending Magellan flying with a single punch.
No one knew why Kaido had chosen to invade Impel Down. He had even attacked Marine Headquarters on a whim. He needed no reason. He was Kaido of the Beasts, and his actions defied logic and reason.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The battle between Magellan and Kaido raged, shaking the very foundations of Impel Down.
On Level Five, the Frozen Hell, the temperature had risen slightly. Ian, Tashigi, Domino, and the other guards looked up towards Level One, where the earth-shattering tremors originated.
"He's finally here… Kaido." Ian's lips curled into a slight smile as he sensed Kaido's presence.
He had assumed Kaido had abandoned his plan, but it seemed his obsession with creating an all-Zoan crew was stronger than he had anticipated. The blaring alarms had also caught the attention of Domino and Tashigi, who hesitated, unsure whether to investigate.
They glanced at Ian, who remained unmoved, his gaze fixed on the gaping hole above. It was clearly an enemy attack. Could it be a Yonko?
BOOM!
Kaido shattered Magellan's Venom Devil: Hydra with another powerful blow, sending the Warden flying amidst a shower of venom.
Magellan, despite his strength, was no match for a Yonko. He could only barely hold his own against Kaido. Even Admirals like Aokiji and Akainu would struggle against him, requiring two to stand a chance.
His poison had little effect on Kaido, whose defenses were practically impenetrable.
"I told you, that stuff is useless!" Kaido roared, backhanding Magellan, sending him crashing into the ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
"Damn it…" Magellan gritted his teeth. His Devil Fruit power was ideally suited for crowd control, which was why he had been appointed Warden of Impel Down. He could single-handedly suppress any number of prisoners, no matter how powerful.
Even figures like Sengoku and Garp treated his venom with caution. But against a monster like Kaido, it was practically useless. He felt like a Mud-Mud Fruit user, flinging mud at an unstoppable force.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The earth-shattering impacts continued, threatening to collapse Impel Down if not for its incredibly sturdy construction.
Guards and personnel had gathered on Level One, but they dared not approach the battlefield, watching from a safe distance with expressions of terror.
On Level Four, the Blazing Hell, guards and personnel huddled around the hole leading to Level Five, enjoying the cool air wafting upwards, providing a respite from the oppressive heat.
Clang! The sound of rattling chains echoed through the prison. Several guards on Level Three, the Starvation Hell, were ambushed and subdued by prisoners who had managed to free themselves.
"Heh heh… Do you know where the keys are? We're getting out of here!" The prisoners, their faces contorted in savage grins, tightened their chains around the guards' necks.
Kaido's invasion had presented them with a golden opportunity for escape. If they missed this chance, they might spend the rest of their lives languishing in this hellhole.
While the odds of success were slim, and the surrounding sea presented a formidable obstacle, they clung to this sliver of hope, determined to seize their freedom.
On various levels, prisoners watched in astonishment, their eyes fixed on the chaos above.
Some had been imprisoned for so long that they didn't even recognize Kaido. "What an incredible battle! Who is that? They've invaded Impel Down and are pushing even Magellan back! Who is that monster?!"
"That's Kaido of the Beasts, One of the Four Emperors!"
Those who recognized him spoke in hushed tones, their voices filled with awe and fear. A Yonko had invaded Impel Down. This meant… Impel Down might fall.
If Impel Down fell, they would have a chance to escape!
Even in Level Six, the Eternal Hell, where hope had long since withered, a spark of excitement ignited in the hearts of the prisoners.
Level Two, the Beasts Hell.
"Woohoo! This is our chance! I don't know what's happening, but the guards and beasts are gone! Let's get out of here! We can't miss this opportunity!"
The freed prisoners of Level Two cheered, rushing towards the upper levels, eager to join the mass breakout.
"Woohoo! Our savior! Thank you!"
In Level Four, the Blazing Hell, the prisoners erupted in cheers, their voices filled with disbelief and excitement. "Is that Emperor here to recruit us? It must be! He's preparing for his final battle against the World Government!"
"Let's follow him! If we serve under him, we'll have a share of the spoils! We'll have all the treasure and women we desire!" The greedy and bloodthirsty pirates roared in anticipation.
Level Five, the Frozen Hell, the passageway.
"A savior? Since when did pirates become the good guys?" Ian chuckled, walking calmly across the icy plains, his ears filled with the cheers of the prisoners below.
In his eyes, Kaido wasn't a savior, but a harbinger of their doom. Not a single prisoner in Impel Down would escape.
They were the scum of the sea, unworthy of life. Whether these vile criminals escaped or not depended on their luck, their fate.
And their chances… were practically zero. Level One was likely already engulfed in Magellan's poisonous fog. While Sadi-chan and the other Impel Down officers might have antidotes, the prisoners did not. And even if they managed to escape the prison…
They would be stranded in the Calm Belt, surrounded by Sea Kings, with no ships to carry them to safety. In the original story, Luffy, blessed with protagonist's luck, had received assistance from numerous powerful allies: Jinbe, Crocodile, Ivankov, Mr. 3, and others, some of whom even countered Magellan's powers. Jinbe had even summoned a whale shark to aid their escape.
For now, these escaping prisoners were merely fodder for his fusion rate. They had reached Level Three, the Starvation Hell. The holes leading to Levels Four and Five were relatively small, and news of Kaido's invasion hadn't reached this level yet. The prisoners were still wondering about the cause of the tremors.
Level Three, however, was in complete chaos. Large groups of prisoners had formed, overwhelming the guards and personnel.
With Hannyabal, Sadi-chan, and the other officers handling the upper levels, and Levels Four and Five seemingly under control, Ian turned his attention to a different matter.
Level Six, the Eternal Hell. If he could instigate a riot there, he would have a justifiable reason to eliminate the prisoners on Levels Three, Four, Five, and Six simultaneously. The upper levels held less dangerous criminals, and while numerous, they lacked truly powerful individuals.
Thump, thump, thump… The sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the passage. A large group of prisoners from Level Three, their faces contorted in savage grins, advanced towards Ian and his companions, their eyes glinting with bloodlust.
"You two go ahead. Assist Magellan and Hannyabal in suppressing the riots on the upper levels. I'll handle these…" Ian addressed Domino and Tashigi.
