One Piece : Pirate King Sage

Chapter 7 – The Three Threats

Logue Town, located near Reverse Mountain, serves as a meeting point for the seas of the Four Seas. Here, a variety of ingredients abound, second only to the legendary OP, making it a paradise for chefs who do not believe in its existence.

Various chefs gather in this vibrant town, drawn by the delicious food and its advantageous geographical location. The streets are bustling with people, including wealthy patrons from distant lands come to taste the culinary delights, young dreamers chasing their aspirations, and, of course, pirates heading towards the Grand Line.

The Navy also maintains a presence in Logue Town, but due to the lack of a strong leader, the area has remained chaotic until the arrival of the powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit user, Smoker, a few years later.

In this tumultuous Logue Town, numerous grand festivals take place, the most famous of which is the decennial Hunting Tournament. Sponsored by the Chefs' Guild, this event sees all the chefs in town showcasing their culinary skills, preparing delicious dishes and inviting every guest to sample them for free. For everyone, this day truly feels like paradise.

During the daytime of the Hunting Tournament, brave warriors from all over gather to sign up for the hunting activities. They venture into the surrounding seas to hunt for precious ingredients. Once the hunted ingredients are evaluated by the Chefs' Guild, the most valuable among them will earn the title of Hunting Champion, along with a Devil Fruit as a prize.

In the black market, a Devil Fruit is valued at around 200 million Berries, so offering such a valuable item as a prize is no small feat. This grand gesture underscores the significance of the tournament and the importance of culinary excellence in Logue Town.

Drifting on the vast ocean, Kado found little joy in his life. With endless waters surrounding him, there was hardly any fun to be had. Although he tried to seek out companions, he ended up with very few he could truly trust. Over the course of two years, he had only found one partner, Fite. Yet, Fite's passion for reading and his quiet demeanor didn't quite fill the void in Kado's boredom. This led to Kado's current personality, always seeking various forms of amusement, often talking to himself or pestering Fite with the same questions over and over.

Kado was self-aware of his situation. He had become much more open than he was during his thieving days. He had learned to let go of minor grievances, no longer sweating the small stuff. He used to struggle to understand Shanks's nonchalant attitude when pirates insulted him, how he could just laugh it off. But now, he found himself understanding it more deeply; spending time facing the vast ocean broadened his heart and mind, teaching him to embrace the larger picture of life.

Kado's boredom had sparked a newfound enthusiasm for everything fresh and exciting, making him eager to embark on unknown adventures—much like Luffy. With his playful self-praise and boundless energy, he had begun to embody a blend of Shanks's tolerance, Luffy's boldness, and Usopp's penchant for self-amusement. He was gradually transforming into a man with his own unique personality, no longer the shadowy figure of a thief hiding in the darkness.

His twenty-three years of life—eighteen in the past world and five in the world of One Piece—had granted Kado a maturity and confidence he hadn't possessed before. More importantly, he now had a clear direction for his journey, a future goal, and the ability to achieve his dreams.

With his strength now exceeding six hundred points, Kado was comparable to the Luffy who had defeated Arlong. His growth was palpable, and he was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

In these three years, Kado had journeyed across dozens of small islands, absorbing over five hundred points of special energy. With each absorption yielding fifty points, he had enhanced himself a total of six times—twice in strength, once in speed, and three times in recovery.

These enhancements had given Kado some insight into the process. The strength upgrades had clearly improved his Busoshoku Haki, while the speed enhancement had unexpectedly boosted his vision, intuition, and reaction time. After just one speed upgrade, he could even perceive the trajectory of bullets, allowing him to evade ranged attacks more effectively.

He also discovered that the recovery enhancements not only increased his healing ability but also significantly accelerated his rate of energy absorption. By dedicating all three of his recovery upgrades to this aspect, Kado's healing had become remarkable, and his appetite had grown equally impressive. He could now absorb special energy at a much faster rate, digesting it in just three days instead of a week. This rapid improvement meant that by the time he returned to Cocoyashi Village in two years, he would likely possess strength equivalent to that of a standard CP9 member, with over a thousand points —a true powerhouse in the making.

This time Kado had come to Logue Town with a clear goal: to obtain a Devil Fruit. These fruits were incredibly rare, and during his three years of wandering, he had only encountered one—though it hadn't been his.

Kado harbored a special fascination for Devil Fruits, always dreaming of the superhuman powers they could bestow. In his moments of boredom, he would often daydream about having incredible abilities and the grand scenes that would follow, where he'd be surrounded by admirers, basking in his newfound strength.

As the night deepened, the excitement coursing through him was palpable, but Fite forced him back onto their ship. Tomorrow morning, the hunting competition would begin, and they needed to rest well. If anything went awry, the coveted Devil Fruit could slip through their fingers.

Back on the ship, Fite pulled out a thick stack of bounty notices and sat down in front of Kado.

"Captain Kado, take a good look at this. These are the participants for tomorrow's competition, and I've highlighted the ones we should be cautious of. You need to be prepared."

"Really? There are so many!" Kado exclaimed. "Are you sure you've gone through them all? There must be at least a dozen here. Or do you not trust my strength and left some small fry in?"

"Humph, your bounty is seventeen million, and all these are higher than that. Do you think they pose no threat to you?" Fite waved his hand impatiently, signaling Kado to take a look or not as he pleased.

"You know it's just a facade," Kado said proudly. "The Night Owl Pirates are merely a cover. Seventeen million? The Navy really underestimates me. If they knew that the bounty hunter 'Saint Hand Kado,' who has taken down a sixty-million bounty pirate, is actually the captain of the Night Owl Pirates, my bounty would at least double!"

"Cough, cough, and who was it that ambushed a pirate and barely managed to bring down a sixty-million bounty while heavily injured? You still have the nerve to boast? If it weren't for me saving you, would you even be standing here talking big?" Fite looked at Kado with disdain.

"Oh, what's wrong? You're not happy? Just remember, I'm the captain, and your highest rank is vice captain. The smallest title you hold is doctor, and your duty is to rescue the injured captain from despicable pirates! You think you have a right to be upset? I'm just saying…"

"Shut up!"

Fite's furious shout finally silenced Kado, who glanced at him with annoyance before reluctantly focusing on the bounty posters.

"Wow, this guy has a bounty of eighty-four million berries! That's impressive. With someone like that around, how can we hope to win the championship?"

"Oh my gosh, this guy has a bounty of sixty-one million! Isn't he stronger than the most powerful pirate I took down? This is just too discouraging."

As he scanned through the posters, Kado's heart sank. He realized that three of the bounties represented serious threats to him: the captain of the Snow Bear Pirates with a bounty of eighty-four million, the Iron Fist Pirates with sixty-one million, and the Green Hat Pirates at fifty-five million.

Among the other pirate crews, there were indeed some that could pose a threat to Cardo and Fite, but they were relatively small, and Cardo dismissed them without a second thought.

"Those three guys won't be easy to handle. Do you have any ideas?" Cardo asked seriously, turning to Fite.

Fite responded calmly, "We can rule out the Snow Bear Pirates. Their captain has the Soft-Soft fruit, which means he can't swim. He probably won't participate in the hunting tournament. The strongest member of the Snow Bear Pirates, as noted in the bounty list, is the 45 million bounty 'Mantis Hand' Hesk, who shouldn't pose much of a threat to us. However, we need to be careful when returning to port after the hunt. If the Snow Bear Pirates decide to rob us, that could become a significant problem."

"Robbery?" Kado asked. "Isn't there anyone to manage this at the chef's alliance?"

"Hmph," Fite scoffed. "Those chefs only care about the best ingredients. The hunting tournament is just a means for them to collect rare ingredients. They won't give a damn about the pirates."

"So that means there aren't really any rules for the hunting tournament. As long as we bring back the best ingredients, anything goes!" Kado exclaimed, excitement bubbling over. "Unlimited conditions and any means allowed—this is thrilling!"

After Kado's excitement settled, Fite continued, "The second threat isn't the guy with the 61 million bounty. He's high because of the killings he's committed, posing a major threat to the government, but his true strength should be around 30 million. We can rule him out. The biggest threat in this hunting tournament is the 55 million bounty 'Green Hat' Pirates. Their appearance is quite strange; there isn't a crew by that name in the four seas. There are two possibilities: either this guy has a high bounty on his first attempt, or he comes from the other side of Reverse Mountain, meaning he's from the Grand Line!"

"Are they failures from the Grand Line?" Kado's eyes lit up with excitement.

"Don't let your guard down," Fite warned. "A pirate with a bounty of 55 million from the Grand Line isn't comparable to the inexperienced pirates from the four seas. There's bound to be something extraordinary about him that we haven't uncovered yet."

"Most likely, this guy comes from the Grand Line," Kado said, clenching his fists tightly. "A pirate returning from that so-called other world, the Grand Line—he better not disappoint me!"
