My Life in Multiverse

Chapter 99: Ch 97 - Awakening (2)

Somewhere in a pitch-black darkness, two giant eyes opened filled with complexity and surprise.

An ancient and otherworldly voice echoed in the darkness, shaking the essence of the space itself.

"Hu!... It had been eons since I had felt this familiar aura... It seems a massive calamity will soon be upon those who sit on the high throne and act like rulers... It has yet to be seen who will rise to the top this time. Huhuhu..."

The voice faded away slowly and the pupils closed down, everything returned to normal.

......

Inside a magnificent throne room, a being dropped in royal robes was seated.

Suddenly he shuddered and jumped up from his throne as his gaze was fixed on the ceiling.

It was as if he could pierce through the roof and gaze at the pitch-black sky.

His gaze revealed the fear that had originated from the depth of his soul. He shouted. "H-How can this be possible...? There is no way... How are you still alive?!"

"M-Master?"

Hearing his voice, a beautiful angelic woman stepped into the room. She had long silver hair that flew down to her back like a waterfall and shiny golden eyes that were as beautiful as jewels.

"Th... The world will soon be over. Everyone is doomed!!"

The handsome man grabbed his head and shivered as he sat down on the ground. His eyes were reflecting space with numerous stars shining into them and yet at that moment, his pupils were slowly turning pitch black as if something was taking over his eyes.

......

"Huhuhu... It seems my choice is not bad. This little brat has the potential of 'It'—a change of plans. Let me help you again, little brat. Just never cease to amuse me... Now I just want to see how far the kid will go down his unprecedented path. Huhuhu..." The Devil God sitting on his high throne grinned, baring his razor-sharp teeth in a sinister smile. He raised his hand and a dark ball of energy gathered in his palm. He waved his hand and the ball shot forth, penetrating through the fibre of space at a speed inconceivable.

"Huhuhu... Kid, you're my entertainment. Don't you dare disappoint me!"

......

At the top of a giant tower, a tall, middle-aged man with short messy sat on a chair in a luxurious office reading some documents when he abruptly stopped and jumped to his feet. His eyes trembled and he turned his head towards the window, only to see an unbelievable phenomenon occurring in front of his eyes.

"What is this...?" He pondered with a heavy expression.

'It seems some great changes are going to occur in the upcoming future. We have to get ready!'

"Marx, call all the captains for an emergency meeting!!" He shouted anxiously toward the door.

A young man bowed and disappeared outside in a hurry to carry out the orders.

'I wonder if the coming future will bring us peace or...'

......

Amidst all this, Alex found his consciousness pulled into a dark empty, and vast space.

The influx of memories of weird, sinister alien yet familiar power flooded into his mind. For some unknown reason, he felt oddly familiar with the power like he had used this power and mastered it several years ago.

Finally, the space distorted and something appeared in front of Alex's eyes. A scene that was familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.

A house, a small cozy house filled with warmth and love.

Alex stared at a familiar face that seemed so close that he could just raise his hand and grasp it but at the same time, he was scared that if he did anything everything in front of his eyes would shatter.

He could only watch it helplessly from the perspective of a third party.

[Kikikiki!... Do you feel anger, helplessness, and frustration for being so weak? Kikiki... You haven't changed a bit.]

An eerie and sinister voice echoed from behind him.

Alex's entire body froze up and he could feel an intense feeling of fear bubbling up in his heart and spreading in his entire body.

He robotically turned around his head and saw a pitch-black existence leaning against the tree in his house's backyard, staring at him creepily.

A grotesque entity, whose form is shrouded in an inky darkness that seems to devour all light. Its eyes seemed to be burning with malevolence, piercing through the shadows, giving a sinister shiver.

Alex was scared, frightened to be exact after such a long time.

[Hoh?... You are feeling fear... from me. You're so amusing~!]

"W-Who... Who are you?" Alex asked carefully.

Crooked, twisted, and elongated limbs writhe with unnatural movements, each step accompanied by an otherworldly whisper that chills the soul. This obscure presence induces an oppressive aura, suffocating the hearts with an unrelenting fear, as if the very existence signifies darkness, destruction, and death.

A slit appeared over the figure's obscure face and the figure flashed his blood-red teeth to him.

[What a boring question! Do you not recognize me?... Kikikiki~... I'm the record of your pain and suffering. I'm the evidence of your struggle and revenge. I AM YOU!]

'W-Wha...' Alex was startled by his answer as his lips and eyes twitched.

[Kikiki... If you still don't get it, then let me rephrase it for you. I originate from the depth of your soul, a being compromised of pure malice, rage, death, destruction, and darkness. You have no need of fear for me since I'm a part of you!]

The figure blinked in front of Alex and pressed his hand on his chest, grinning madly.

[All the restrictions imposed on you will be lifted as you... no, we go through awakening like this. Your powers have no bounds, no limits. A truly limitless power sleeps within you, waiting for its awakening. The only thing that is limiting you is yourself. You have to expand your vision and look beyond the sky... You have to grow stronger, stronger than the limits of the very fiber of the universe. Kikiki... Good luck to me!]

"Hahaha!"

Alex burst into laughter upon hearing the word of that pitch-black figure.

"I find it funny. That my years of vain struggle, my way of doing things, and passing the time would lead to the origin of an unknown power. As for how strong I will be, only time will tell..."

The figure draped in darkness slowly started to dissipate and assimilate into Alex's soul.

And that was the last thing Alex remembered before his vision was restored and he found himself back in the abandoned and broken building.

But unlike before, everything had turned to ashes. All the living things in the vicinity had turned lifeless as if their life-force had been sucked by an unknown power. Also, the house was only standing, looking completely normal but Alex could see that it had already turned to powder and it could collapse at any moment.

Alex grabbed the grimoire and escaped from it. Just as he left, the place finally collapsed.

All the vegetation in the surroundings had been sucked dry, being completely lifeless.

Any normal person watching this scene would be scared out of his guts...
