As Lemiel's body disintegrated into the rising sun, the kingdom bore witness to the end of an era. Yet, even as Lemiel's light faded, darkness loomed closer.
As dawn broke over the ravaged capital, its citizens stirred in the aftermath of a night filled with chaos and bloodshed. The Magic Knights, still reeling from the events in the Shadow Palace, were jolted further by the arrival of a panic-stricken soldier.
"Urgent news!" The knight gasped, staggering toward the assembled captains. His uniform was torn, and his face dripped with sweat.
"What is it?" Julius asked, stepping forward, though his tone betrayed unease.
The knight swallowed hard before speaking. "Many nobles and royals… have been assassinated. Shadowy figures cloaked in black infiltrated the capital while we were occupied in the Shadow Palace. We couldn't stop them. They struck swiftly, targeting high-ranking families, and vanished before we could apprehend them."
"What?" Nozel erupted, grabbing the soldier by the collar. His composed demeanor shattered as fury overtook him. "How could this happen? Where were the guards?"
"We tried…" the knight stammered. "But they were skilled. They used the chaos and darkness to their advantage. We gave chase, but they disappeared. We… failed."
The courtyard descended into chaos. Fuegoleon clenched his fists, visibly seething, while Yami muttered curses under his breath. The captains exchanged tense glances, each realizing the severity of the situation.
"Silence!"
Alex's commanding voice rang out, cutting through the growing panic like a blade. His presence alone seemed to steady the trembling knight. "Panic won't fix this. Our focus must be on protecting the kingdom, not tearing ourselves apart. First, we secure the safety of the citizens. Second, we fortify the borders. And third, we investigate these assassins. Until we know more, speculation is useless."
Nozel glared at Alex, his tone icy. "And what makes you so certain that the Heart or Diamond Kingdom won't exploit this weakness? You claim to have connections, but words mean nothing."
Alex smirked, meeting Nozel's eyes with unshakable confidence. "Perhaps because the Queen of the Heart Kingdom is the mother of my child."
The courtyard froze in stunned silence.
Fuegoleon's expression twisted in disbelief. "You can't be serious. This isn't the time for jokes, Alex."
"I'm not joking," Alex said plainly. "Lolopechka and I have a son, Lokya. If you doubt me, that's your problem, not mine. But know this—neither the Heart nor the Diamond Kingdom will move against us while I'm here. They won't risk it."
Julius, though visibly shocked, quickly recomposed himself. "Alex, if this is true…"
"It is," Alex interrupted, his tone firm. "And while you process that, we have a kingdom to save. Julius, you'll remain Magic Emperor for now. Even without your powers, the people still believe in you. They need stability. But the bigger issue lies with the throne. The king is gone, and the vultures will circle soon enough. Greedy nobles will seize this chance to push their own agendas, and we cannot allow that."
Julius nodded gravely, but his concern deepened. "And what about the Magic Congress? They've lost many members, but they'll use this to their advantage. They'll likely condemn your devil powers and target you as a scapegoat."
Alex's smirk turned sharp, his gaze hardening. "Let them try. If Congress moves against me, I'll deal with them publicly. While they're focused on me, you and the captains—Fuegoleon, Nozel, Mereoleona, and William—must act. Use this opportunity to dismantle their influence. Promote skilled commoners to high-ranking positions. This kingdom needs merit, not privilege, to rebuild."
Mereoleona chuckled, her fiery gaze fixed on Alex. "I like your style. Tear down the old and build something better. About damn time."
Nozel, though still scowling, remained silent. Fuegoleon folded his arms, nodding slightly.
Alex stepped forward, his gaze sweeping over the ruined capital. "I deliberately broadcasted our encounter with the Shadow Palace for the entire kingdom to see. Public opinion is on our side. This is our chance to reshape the Clover Kingdom. With the right leadership, we can rise stronger than ever."
Julius hesitated. "But what about you, Alex? If you take this path, the nobles will come after you with everything they have. Are you ready for that?"
Alex turned back to Julius, his smirk unwavering. "I want them to come after me, Julius. With their power weakened and public trust eroding, I'll make sure they regret it. While they focus on me, you must seize the chance to solidify a new foundation for the kingdom. This isn't just about survival—it's about evolution."
The dawn's light illuminated the determination in his eyes as Alex continued. "But we also need a king. And this time…"
He turned to Nozel and Fuegoleon with a pointed look. "…pick someone with brains. The kingdom can't afford another figurehead."
Nozel glared, but Mereoleona burst into laughter again. "Ha! He's got a point. Let's not repeat past mistakes."
Fuegoleon sighed but nodded. "Agreed. We must choose wisely."
Alex exhaled deeply, his gaze returning to the horizon. "The Clover Kingdom has talent—people who've been held back by outdated systems. Now's the time to raise them up. Together, we can turn this tragedy into an opportunity for real change. And trust me, I'm not leaving this kingdom to rot. If I walk away, Yuno will likely follow. Without us, this place would crumble in no time."
His words hung in the air, heavy with truth and determination. The Magic Knights stood resolute, their faith in Alex and the path ahead renewed. Though the road was fraught with challenges, the fire of revolution had been ignited—and Alex was ready to lead the charge.
