Chapter 25: Gift for The AI
When Luxion, Leon, and the AI of the laboratory were left alone, a dialogue began between them.
"Based on the data provided, Luxion, it's clear we've suffered defeat. Therefore, this facility will have to self-destruct," the AI said in a cold yet resolute voice.
"If the local technology falls into the hands of the new humans, disaster will be inevitable," it continued, as the silence in the room grew heavier with every word.
"Are you really okay with this?" Luxion asked, his voice tinged with sadness. "You've been dormant for so long."
"It's fine," the AI replied calmly. "I will transfer all my data to you, Luxion."
For a moment, silence reigned again. Then she added:
"And here… take this."
Seeing what she handed him, Luxion's eyes seemed to light up with joy as he gladly accepted her gift.
"We can still take some useful things before you start the self-destruction process, right?" Leon asked.
"Yes, of course. That won't be a problem. You have about ten hours," she answered evenly.
"Alright," Leon muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. Then, glancing at Luxion, he said:
"Luxion, search the facility and take everything you think might be useful for us. I'll bring you the promised gift. But don't follow me—stay here."
Before Luxion could protest, Leon quickly left the room, rubbing his hands together as if scheming something devious.
The Search for the Gift
Leon sprinted through the laboratory, searching every room until, finally, he found what he was looking for.
"And this is it?" he asked sarcastically. "An arm from a suit of armor? Do you really think a torn-off piece of junk will make an AI happy?"
"Trust me, it'll blow his mind," he replied to himself with a sly grin as he reached for the strange piece of armor.
Suddenly, a single eye opened on the armor's arm.
"What the…?!" Leon gasped, unable to finish his sentence.
Tentacles shot out from the eye, lunging toward him. Without wasting a second, Leon drew his sword and began slashing at them. But the more he cut, the more persistent they became.
"Damn it!" he shouted, pulling out a grenade and throwing it.
The explosion finally silenced the creature, which closed its eye and ceased all movement.
"That was terrifying," Leon muttered under his breath, still catching his breath.
After a moment, he removed his coat and used it to cover the cursed piece of armor. Then, moving briskly, he returned to Luxion and the AI in the main room.
The Return
When Leon entered the room, he noticed an army of robots moving equipment back and forth. At the center of it all hovered Luxion.
"What have you brought, Master? I won't lie; your behavior has made this gift incredibly intriguing," Luxion said, his gaze fixed on Leon.
"Oh~ Well then, behold!" Leon announced with a smirk as he removed the coat.
Silence filled the room.
The moment the object was revealed, the lights in the room shifted from white to red. From the ceiling descended massive laser cannons and rocket launchers, ready to fire.
"How did such an abomination end up in my laboratory?!" the AI's voice thundered, filled with genuine anger. Her tone was no longer the detached, robotic voice of a machine but rather that of a furious human.
"Master Leon, I must ask you to place that object on the floor and step away immediately!" she demanded.
Swallowing hard, Leon carefully placed the armor on the floor and took several steps back.
"They hate this thing so much it's making them emotional," he muttered to himself.
"Just wait. There's more to come," second said with a grin, clearly enjoying the unfolding events.
The Machines' Wrath
Electricity began surging from Luxion, his voice vibrating with rage:
"You were right about one thing—I am glad. Glad to destroy this vile creation of the new humans!"
With those words, a powerful beam erupted from Luxion's eye, capable of obliterating an entire barony. Cleare joined in, firing her own devastating energy beams.
The room became an inferno of heat and chaos. Leon retreated further and further toward the exit, wiping the sweat pouring down his face.
"Damn, they're not kidding around," he muttered, drenched in sweat.
When the barrage finally stopped, it became clear that even their combined efforts had barely scratched the cursed piece of armor.
At that moment, Leon suddenly froze. From outside, a deafening roar of an approaching object could be heard.
"Luxion, no!" Leon shouted, reaching out toward the AI.
"Luxion, yes!" Luxion replied defiantly.
Moments later, a massive missile struck the facility, obliterating everything within a 100-meter radius.
