Chapter 116: The Godfather Of Sorcerer Supreme Is Lorien! ?

_____

Lorien continued showing Gwen around the planet Cybertron. After a while, he snapped his fingers, and the two of them returned to the North Building. They slipped off their shoes as soon as they entered the house, and without wasting any time, Lorien scooped Gwen up into his arms and carried her straight to the bathroom.

Having held back all day, he was ready to release the tension that had been building up. Gwen was initially caught off guard, but soon she turned around and embraced him.

"I, Spider Gwen, will defeat you today!" she declared playfully.

"Alright, but I'll be using Superman's strength!" Lorien teased back.

"Hey! That's cheating!" Gwen protested.

"Relax," Lorien smirked, "I've got some toys that never stop!"

"You—! Fine, check out my tiger charm!"

"Sorry! Tonight, I, Lorien, am playing a two-on-one match!"

Meanwhile, in the living room, Hela sat on the sofa, engrossed in a video game. Although Lorien had blocked out most of the sound, Hela was well aware of what was going on. Seeing that Lorien was only spending time with Gwen for now, she clenched her fist in frustration and waved it angrily in the air before covering her face in exasperation.

But then, an idea struck her. Hela glanced at the sofa and then at Lorien's master bedroom. Her mind raced, and soon her eyes gleamed with a plan.

She began to visualize the scene in her mind. With a wave of her hand, her divine power surged. After a brief moment of darkness, Hela seemed to disappear into the shadows. The door to Lorien's master bedroom opened on its own, then quietly closed again.

Yes, she thought. I'll wait until late at night to put my plan into action!

At the same time, within the shrine of Kamar-Taj, Stephen sat cross-legged on a futon, meditating. The Eye of Agamotto hovered before him, its presence a reminder of the weight he now carried. The death of the Ancient One had affected him deeply, and it had led him to keep the Eye close, guarding it for 24 hours a day.

The door to the temple creaked open, and the round king magician, Wong, walked in. He approached Stephen's side.

"The three days are up," Wong said calmly.

Stephen opened his eyes and slowly stood up, his legs stiff from having sat in the same position for so long. He had been meditating for three days straight. Wong, observing him, asked curiously, "What did the Ancient One say to you at the end?"

Stephen glanced at the Eye of Agamotto and then turned to Wong. "She told me to keep it safe at all costs," he replied.

Wong thought for a moment and asked, "Did the Ancient One pass the title of Sorcerer Supreme to you?"

"No, she didn't have time," Stephen admitted bluntly, but then added, "But I will take her responsibility seriously."

Wong considered this for a moment. He wasn't particularly ambitious about the title of Sorcerer Supreme, even though it was a position coveted by every magician. Still, he felt it necessary to remind Stephen of something important.

"The Ancient One didn't publicly pass the title of Sorcerer Supreme to you, so it would be wise to tell others that she entrusted it to you before her death. Only then will you be able to command the respect and leadership of the other magicians."

Stephen raised an eyebrow and feigned confusion. "Wait, doesn't everyone know that I forced Dormammu to retreat?"

Wong immediately shook his head. "No, they do. Every magician knows that, and it's still being talked about. But what I'm saying is that there will be malicious magicians who see your current position as vulnerable and may use that as an opportunity to challenge you."

Upon hearing this, Stephen's face lit up with exaggerated realization. "Ohhh!"

At least half of his reaction was clearly exaggerated for comedic effect, but it did make Wong smile.

"So, what should I do?" Stephen asked, looking at Wong as if the solution were still a mystery.

Wong is the steward of the sanctum at Kamar-Taj, specifically its librarian and guardian. He also acts as the Ancient One's assistant, managing several responsibilities simultaneously. What Stephen implied earlier was that Wong was qualified to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

Stephen's question was, in fact, testing whether Wong had any desire to take the position of Sorcerer Supreme. When the Ancient One was preparing to depart, she had mentally passed the title of Sorcerer Supreme to Stephen. However, after witnessing a fellow magician's betrayal, Stephen had intentionally spoken this way to fish for information. He had no time to wait for a traitor to reveal themselves.

Upon hearing Stephen's question, Wong narrowed his eyes and asked pointedly, "Are you suggesting I want your position?"

He continued, "When you were learning spells, I was the one who taught you. When you snuck into the library, I let you in according to the Ancient One's will. The Ancient One's departure saddens me more than you could know. And now, you're accusing me of wanting to steal the position of Sorcerer Supreme?"

To be honest, Wong had been by the Ancient One's side for many years, which allowed him to understand that Stephen was merely testing him.

"My apologies," Stephen said, slightly embarrassed, touching his nose awkwardly.

"I've seen too many magicians betray their hearts for the sake of power recently, so I have to be cautious of everyone. Besides, we haven't known each other for long."

Wong nodded thoughtfully after hearing this. "I understand. I'd likely feel the same if I were in your shoes."

Men often bond through conversation, and after this exchange, the trust between Stephen and Wong grew considerably. Wong also realized that Stephen had his own plans and didn't need further probing, so he let it go. Stephen, in turn, had come to understand Wong's nature, and no longer felt the need to test him.

Their late-night conversation continued smoothly. However, as they chatted, Wong suddenly remembered something and spoke seriously.

"By the way, there's someone you must treat with the utmost respect when you see him again."

Stephen blinked in surprise. "But I'm the Sorcerer Supreme now. Why would I need to give anyone special treatment?"

Wong glanced at him before nodding solemnly. "Precisely because you are the Sorcerer Supreme."

"Uh... what?" Stephen was puzzled. "Who exactly are you talking about?"

"You've met him before."

"I have?"

The more Stephen listened, the more confused he became. Seeing Stephen's bewildered expression, Wong realized he couldn't remember, so he provided a reminder.

"The man who taught you alongside the Ancient One that day. He was accompanied by a young girl with green hair."

Stephen thought back for a moment, and then it hit him softly. "Wait... him?!"

"Yes," Wong confirmed with a nod.

Then he began to explain, "Don't think that being Sorcerer Supreme gives you free rein. Lorien's power surpasses even that of the Ancient One. After a particular debate, a law was recognized that cemented Lorien's status as the Sorcerer Supreme's godfather."

"So now that you've inherited the title, you must also acknowledge that relationship. If you choose not to, you're welcome to challenge him, but I wouldn't recommend it."

"He's the final safeguard of the magician's sanctum. If the Sorcerer Supreme is ever unable to protect this world, it will fall to the godfather to step in."

Stephen was so taken aback by Wong's words that his mind became a whirlwind of confusion. He stood there in shock, unable to process everything he had just heard.
