LUNA’S SECRET

Chapter 18: Chapter 17

Luna resumed work at the clinic, it was nowhere as stressful or as chaotic as working in the kitchen, after exchanging pleasantries with Evangeline and other staff members, Evangeline asked her to sit and she took another blood sample to run more extensive tests, to ascertain the effectiveness of the new drugs she had administered earlier and unfortunately, the poison was still there in traces and still causing oxidative stress and damages to her system , once again she changed her prescription.

Luna resumed work which was nothing stressful, she just had to arrange the files and deliver drugs and in the afternoon she was allowed to retire to her room, Luna decided to go out to gather some herbs that would help cure her poison, she had created the poison, it was only fair she be the one to create the antidote. Luna even made a trap to catch a few rats she would use to test the concoction she made on.

When she turned to go home she realized that she had walked a while and was almost outside the territory, she was so busy enjoying the breeze on her face and hair as it played with tendrils of hair that escaped from her bun, Luna began seeking specific herbs she read about in books that had healing properties.

When she was convicted she had suitable quantity, She began the wall home cursing herself for being so careless and going so far away from the pack boarder, even though she was still in the territory. she was vulnerable now and could not fight or outrun anyone if it came down to it.

Luna had barely gone five steps when she heard voices speaking in hushed tones. She hid, thankful that she had been in the forest all day picking plants, so her scent was probably already coated with the flowers. It was a struggle holding her breath.

"Do you have the layout for this territory?"

"Yes, I have it."

From the position Luna was in, she could only make out their dark hair, but nothing else, their accent was a bit different from what was usually spoken within the pack but Luna couldn't quite place it. They were obviously not originally from the pack but had somehow infiltrated it.

They exchanged the different information they both had, there would be an attack on golden moon pack in two weeks time, The other man informed the slightly shorter one that a signal would be given to him so he could begin introducing the sleeping powder through the air vent, no matter how strong the golden moon pack may think they are , they would be unable to fight on two fronts and would be completely decimated. The plotting parties parted ways after that, Luna waited until the tuned back into their wolf form and departed, she waited an extra one hour just to be sure they were well and truely gone before leaving her hiding spot.

Luna began running home not walking. She didn't want to be caught by anyone else, she didn't pause to take a breath until she got to the pack entrance, she wasn't spared a second glance or so she thought, the guards were totally checking her out as soon as her back was turned, they had also heard the Rumours too that she was the Alpha's new plaything, and they had even broken the door doing it.

Their speculative gaze took in the small curvy girl wondering how she was able to take him the large alpha, they couldn't wait for the alpha to tire of her so they could have their turn , she was pretty even with her untamed hair and dirt coated finger. Luna rushed into the bedroom and slammed her door sliding to the floor carefully processing the information she had found out.

She knew she had to tell someone and it scared her, telling someone would mean she could no longer hide in the shadows, but she couldn't let the pack be destroyed so she resolved to go find Marcus, her face flaming at what they had been doing before he has stormed off after he told her to stop.

After the decision was made, she began brewing the herb, grinding the required herbs into a paste, then she wore gloves and picked up the syringe she had earlier taken from the hospital, she put on the face mask not in a hurry to forget how poisonous her brew was, she couldn't allow herself get poisoned again, she had barely survived the last time, she took a tiny bit of the poisonous powder and mixed it with three parts of water and injected the fattest most active rat, feeling sorry for it as it squeaked pathetically as if sensing its fate.

It immediately fell limp and began writhing, it's breathing shallow, Luna injected it with a dose of the antidote she had prepared and the rat still died, bleeding from all its orfices, she discarded it into a pile and added more ingredients, especially the healing herbs to the antidote unfortunately, she still got the same result , Luna was frustrated, she had three test subjects left and she had to make this work.

She sacrificed one of the rats and used her blood as solvent base for the antidote, it seemed to work for a bit, it lived but died after about an hour, that was progress but she was frustrated and almost sobbed, she was down to one rat and the paste she made was almost running out, a hiss left her lips as she cut her palm, allowing the blood trail into the container she was using.

She muttered the incantation that she heard the healer in her pack use a lot of times when preparing herbs, adding a line or two to it:

"By root and leaf, by earth and sky,

Through nature's gifts, let harm now fly.

Heal the body, soothe the mind,

Let balance and strength in this form bind.
