Ch19- Let Ichigo Deal With It
As the Ghost Bust crew began their investigation of the abandoned hospital, the crowd watched in anticipation. Don Kanonji, armed with his trusty spirit staff, led the charge, exuding confidence and determination.
While exploring the dark, creepy corridors of the hospital, the Ghost Bust crew encountered a ghost that seemed to be trapped in the building. Don Kanonji, with his trademark flair, prepared to exorcise the spirit.
Kai, however, felt a strange uneasiness wash over him. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but something about the situation felt off. As Don Kanonji began the exorcism, Kai's instincts told him that this was more than just a simple ghost.
Tatsuki and Orihime exchanged worried glances as they too began to feel that something was amiss. The atmosphere around the abandoned hospital had shifted, and the unease that had settled over them seemed to grow stronger by the minute.
As Don Kanonji continued his exorcism, the trio suddenly heard a series of agonized screams. These cries of pain and terror sent shivers down their spines, and they quickly realized that the ordinary spectators around them couldn't hear the screams.
Before they could fully process the situation, Rukia and Ichigo appeared, walking towards them with serious expressions on their faces. As they approached, Rukia greeted Kai with respect, bowing her head slightly. "Kai-sama," she acknowledged, before seeking his permission to explain the situation.
Rukia took a deep breath and began to explain. "The spirit Don Kanonji is attempting to exorcise is not an ordinary ghost. It's what we call a 'half-hollow,' a soul that has been bound to a location or an object and is in the process of becoming a hollow. The exorcism is likely to accelerate this transformation, putting both the soul and everyone here in danger."
Orihime's eyes widened in shock, her hands covering her mouth. "That's terrible! We have to do something to help that soul and stop it from becoming a hollow!"
Tatsuki clenched her fists, anger and determination burning in her eyes. "How can we help, Rukia? There must be something we can do!"
Rukia looked at Kai, who nodded solemnly. "We need to intervene before the soul fully transforms into a hollow. We'll have to find a way to break the binding and release the soul, allowing it to pass on to the Soul Society."
Ichigo stepped forward, determination etched on his face. "We'll need to act quickly. The more time passes, the harder it will be to save the soul."
Seeing Ichigo about to jump over the barricades in his human form, Kai grabbed his collar and stopped him. "What the hell are you doing?" Ichigo asked, his face twisted in anger.
"Fool, there are tens of securities around, what are you going to do in your human form?" Kai retorted. In the next second, Ichigo's Shinigami soul left his body. "Go do whatever the hell you want now."
As Ichigo raced towards the stage, Orihime and Tatsuki stayed with Kai, watching the situation unfold with worry etched on their faces.
Ichigo quickly grabbed Don Kanonji and threw him away from the angry half-hollow, trying to help the soul cross over. But his efforts were in vain, as the soul refused to pass on. As the situation grew more desperate, the soul finally disintegrated and transformed into a full-fledged hollow.
The crowd, unable to see the hollow or the Shinigami battling it, grew restless and began to panic. Security tried to maintain order, but the atmosphere was filled with tension and fear.
As Ichigo began his battle against the newly-formed hollow, Kai took Orihime and Tatsuki's hands and led them away from the chaos. Both girls were surprised by his actions but followed him without question, trusting his judgment.
Once they were at a safe distance from the battle, Orihime couldn't contain her worry any longer. "Kai, why are we leaving? We should help them. There are innocent people around." she exclaimed, her eyes filled with concern.
Tatsuki nodded in agreement, her fists clenched tightly. "She's right, Kai. We can't just stand here and do nothing while there is a hollow on loose."
Kai shook his head, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "It's a newly formed hollow. Ichigo can handle it. Let's go home."
He hugged their waists and pulled Orihime and Tatsuki closer. "I hate trouble," he sighed, the tension in his shoulders slowly dissipating.
Orihime and Tatsuki exchanged uncertain glances but ultimately decided to trust Kai. They walked away from the chaotic scene, their hearts heavy with the knowledge that a soul had been lost and transformed into a hollow.
As they made their way home, the trio remained mostly silent, their minds occupied with the events they had just witnessed. It wasn't until they reached Kai's doorstep that Orihime finally spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Kai… do you think we could have done something to help that soul? To prevent it from turning into a hollow?" she asked, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Tatsuki looked at her friend, her own expression filled with sorrow and regret. "Yeah, I can't help but feel like we should have tried to do more."
Kai looked at both girls, his eyes filled with understanding and empathy. He hugged them tightly, his voice gentle as he spoke. "It's natural to feel that way, but sometimes, there's only so much we can do. We can't save everyone, no matter how hard we try."
He pulled back slightly, looking into their eyes. "What's important is that we learn from this experience and use it to grow stronger. We'll continue to train and improve our abilities so that next time, we'll be better prepared to help."
Orihime nodded, wiping away her tears. "You're right, Kai. We'll become stronger so that we can protect the ones we care about and help those in need."
Tatsuki, her determination renewed, clenched her fists. "Yeah, we won't let something like this happen again. We'll make sure of it."
Kai smiled at their resolve, his heart swelling with pride. "That's the spirit," he encouraged, opening the door to Orihime’s home. "Now, let's get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day, and we'll need our strength for the challenges ahead."
The trio entered her home, the events of the day weighing heavily on their minds. But despite the sadness and regret they felt, they were determined to use this experience as a stepping stone to become stronger, more capable protectors of the people they cared about.
