IT'S JUST A CONTRACT

Chapter 15: A perfect date

"wow did you see the audacity of those bitches though" David says seemingly not yet placated.

I chuckle lightly at how infuriated he is.

"Seriously, you should have let me rip them a new one. I mean how could anyone possibly be that shameless?"

At this point I'm laughing my lungs out, it was the first time in a while I'd seen him this agitated and he wasn't even the one wronged.

Honestly I didn't even feel wronged, I just felt a little tini tiny bit of jealousy.

"Still, there really wasn't any need for to get mad." I say leaning on his shoulder.

"I feel extremely loved just knowing I have someone who would get this mad on my behalf, but at the end of the day it's not like they said anything wrong"

"We aren't together"

"But she's hitting on you isn't she?"

'Yeah, just so she has unrestricted access to my life' I don't say this out loud and just give him a light smile. I change the subject feeling a little bit down.

'Yeah lets hot forget that'

The rest of the ride we just make random conversations and gossip about old college friends. We arrive at my spot order our dinner and I begin to fill David in on what happened that day. While narrating things the best way I could I noticed david's face breaking into a grin with just kept getting wider with each new detail and I couldn't help but blush a little bit. For some reason talking about it felt very embarrassing and the fact that it sounded more like a romance movie or story than a real life situation didn't help quail my growing embarrassment. By the end of my narration David looked like he'd just heard the juiciest piece of gossip.

"And if according to her claim, that wasn't a real date I wonder what a real date would be like" david says propping his elbow on the table.

"Yeah I wonder" I reply with a half baked smile.

"I'll rate this date 50 over 10, just because she said it wasn't a real date."

"50?"

"Yup"

"Why? All she did was question me, watch me talk and get me drunk" David fixes his posture takes a deep breath and starts talking,

"Let me tell you why"

"First of all she was able to pick up on the admiration and respect the employee's have for you"

"That's because of how they welcomed me"

"Nope, I've come here a lot with you and all the guest get greeted the same way. It's the way they look at our and the subtle difference in their facial expressions and tone"

"Also he wasn't questioning you, she was curious about you so she asked. And in your own words she listened you talk which she pays attention to you and cares about what you have to say"

I try to retaliate but our order arrives just then.

"Thank you"

"You're welcome"

I swallow my retort but David continues,

"Next, you said she dismissed her driver and assistant, even after having her assistant bring stuff to her right?"

"yeah??"

"Do you know what that means?"

"No??"

"It means she doesn't want anyone else to know about it, but she took you there"

With each new point David made I became even more convinced or should I say delusional that Zailah just might actually like me.

"Also about getting you drunk, if she bought two bottles of alcohol don't you think she might have wanted to drink too"

"She did say that"

"If she had drank though both of you would have had to spend the night there and if you did and something were to have happened she wouldn't have been able to protect you ar herself"

"Oh" I say my voice barely above a whisper.

"One more thing, she let you order everything you ate that night"

"Mmh"

"Did it ever cross your mind that maybe she just wanted to know your feeding preferences"

"No, no i did not" I mutter.

"And lets ot forget the grandest of grand gestures, she got you tulips on your first date even though it wasn't an official date"

"So?"

"Oh my God!! You don't know what tulips signify?"

"Shhh you're being loud and no I don't"

"Wow"

"Tulips can signify happiness, joy, love, good luck and well wishes. It's literally the alrounder of flowers which makes it a perfect flower to gift a new love interest"

"While most people give this on the second date she gave it to you on your first unofficial date and in a crowded room too. That's literally like open marking you as hers"

My ear turned the instant those words leave Davids mouth.

'Marking me as hers' a small smile forms at my lips but I don't say anything.

"Now do you understand why its a 50 over 10?"

I nod in response for fear that if I speak he might hear the excitement in my voice.

"That's why my friend you have to get married to her"

I begin to cough aggressively as I'd almost choked on my food

"here have some water" I grab my glass of water and shoot David a glare.

Instead of regret though he smirks confidently and add's,

"I mean come on where are you going to find someone like this again?"

I don't say anything in response or retort and we carry on the rest of the night talking about random things but then out of nowhere David drops a question that I didn't know at the time would shake up my world.

"By the way I forgot to ask earlier but what does Zailah do?"

"Oh I think she runs a company"

"What type of company?"

I pause for a second the realization that I don't even have the most basic idea of who Zailah is as a person hits me,

"Oh, I don't know"

"Hmm? For real?" I nod slowly.

"You should at least find out the basic things about her since you live together now"

"I'll try" I respond before sipping my drink.

'i'll try' I think this time making a mental note.

I get home around midnight and the lights are turned off, I'd called Stacey earlier to inform her i'd be late so she must have retired to her room and since there's no Zailah Impatiently waiting for me in the parlor I can only assume she's still at work. I walk to my room feeling a little disappointed for some reason. I mean, at the end of the day isn't this what I wanted?
