Chapter 14: An invisible rival
🍀Alyssa's POV🍀
"I didn't drink, it was just you" she says like It was the most natural thing in the world before heading towards the stairs.
'What did she just say?' 'Did she just nonchalantly say she got me wasted without an ounce of guilt?'
"Have you eaten?" Zailah asks starting to take off her suit jacket as she reaches the stairs, she attempts to turn in my direction but the moment she does her face is greeted by the throw pillow I'd dashed towards her. We both stand still in silence for a couple minutes, she doesn't say anything , just stares at the pillow with a puzzled expression so I speak up,
"How can you just casually say to got me blackout drunk without even having a sip and not even attempt to offer an apology or explanation"
She lets out a long unreadable sigh and finally says,
"It wasn't my intention to get you that drunk but it seemed like you were having fun and you didn't look all that tipsy"
"Also I was going to drink but then I remembered I was our only ticket home"
'That makes absolute sense'
"But still you could've told me before hand"I respond and start heading for the stairs, when I'm about to walk past Zailah though she grabs my wrist and asks again,
"Have you eaten?"
"What's it to you" I respond yanking my hand off and storming up to my room.
I end up playing games in another few hours but then my stomach begins to growl so I decide to go look for a snack in the kitchen, when I get to the kitchen I see a fully set meal on the dinner table so I heat it up and eat. I feel full after eating so I decide to just go straight to bed, at this point its basically almost dusk. The moment my head hits my pillow I fall into a deep sleep.
The next day I wake up to Stacey preparing breakfast, I was a bit taken back but then I remembered that this was the norm. I can't believe I've gotten so used to Zailah cooking for me after just a few days.
"Good morning Stacey"
"Oh miss, you're up. How was your night?"
"It was good, I guess"
"Did you not sleep well?"
"Oh no, nothing like that. Anyways its been forever since I've had your cooking"
"Don't be ridiculous miss, it's only been 3 days"
"Well I missed it that much"
"I'm glad you enjoy my cooking"
I think she catches me glancing towards the door because she randomly says
"Miss Zailah ha to leave really early this morning"
"Oh" I say trying to sound as uninterested as possible while nodding lightly.
'How could she leave so early its literally been 9 hours since she came home and she cooked a full course meal so when did she sleep?'
As if reading my mind Stacey says;
"Miss Zailah is such a workaholic, sometimes she goes days without sleep"
"Hah, I wish she'd give herself a break"
I finish my breakfast and head to work. As I step into my hospital I notice people glancing at me and whispering. I feel like I've being used as gossip fodder too often these days. I head straight to David's office, if anyone knows what's going on this time its definitely David. I knock on his door and push it slightly open, David looks up at me and looks away almost immediately pouting.
"Huh? Did I do something wrong" I ask walking into his office and shutting the door behind me.
"How can you experience your first grande romantic gesture and not call me"
"I'm sorry, everything happened so quickly that I barely even had time to fully process what was happening"
"Still you could have called me when you got home after your date that day"
"i mean I literally would have still been clueless right now if the nurses at the reception hadn't been gossiping about it soo loudly earlier this morning"
'Oh, so that's what the glances and whispers were about'
"I really am sorry, and this isn't just an excuse but the theres a reason I couldn't call you that night"
"What? Did you guys end up having mind blowing sex that night?" he says his eyes suddenly lighting up with anticipation
"What? No, NO WE didn't"
"Tsk, how disappointing"
"She just got me black out drunk"
"If you were blackout drunk how can you be sure nothing happened?"
"Huh?" This was the first time the thought crossed my mind, how could It not have crossed my mind that something might have happened while I was blacked out, its not like theres a guarantee I was asleep the whole time.
"Theres no way anything happened"I blurts out trying to convince myself more than anyone else. David gives me a mischevious grin and nods. i try to make a run because my ears were beginning to heat up but David stops me,
"where do you think you're going?"
"My office?" I say giving him a nervous smile
"How was your date?"
"I don't really know?"
"Oh right this is your first romantic experience"
'He was making fun of me just now right?'
"Let's do this then"
"After work we'll meet up at that place you like, you give as much tea as possible and I'll help you decide how good it was"
I nod in response feeling more excited than I had expected.
"Then I'll head to my office"
"Mmh, see you after work"
I'm a little swamped with work from skipping a day and pushing back my work two days ago, but I manage to get through it. I round up my work around 8pm and start heading towards David's office but I get obstructed by two nurses.
"Dr. Al who was the person that came to pick you up two days ago"
'Why are they acting like were close?'
"Why're you asking? Did something happen?"
"They exchange glances and one of them says
"Someone I know is really intrested in her so were wondering if you could give us her number if you're not dating her yet"
"Don't you think it would be rude to her if I gave you her number without asking" I say an involuntary frown forming between my brows.
"That's true… then, can we give you her number so you can pass it on?"
"No you can't" David's voice echo's breaking through the tension that was quietly begining to form.
"Do you not understand how rude you"re being right now? How can you shamelessly ask someone for their partners contact information?"
"But they aren't together"
"How can you be so sure of that" David retorts his face clearly screaming 'this bitch'
"Someone heard them talking outside that day and they apparently know nothing about each other"
"That's still not something to be proud of you piece of shit"
"David no cussing, let's just go." I say pulling David away. If I'd left him there a minute longer this whole situation would have turned into a screaming match. I turn around and see both nurses rooted in the same spot looking at us all stunned.
