Chapter 35
The final match, set three, to determine the winner of the Arcane War.
The excitement of the last match was incredible.
“Looks like the Electricity Tower is going to win! Ashi’s growth difference is just too overwhelming. Nocturne hasn’t gotten many kills.”
“Even in this situation, Jinx is just pushing the top lane. That wizard is definitely the best top laner in this Arcane War.”
“But strangely, Nocturne is also hitting the top lane.”
“Exactly! They need to keep Ashi in check to win!”
Based on the first two sets, the outcome of this game was a fight to see which Tower Master would carry their team.
However, in the final set, it was clear that the Electricity Tower Master had a high chance of carrying.
On the Illusion Tower side, Jinx did manage to get a kill, but…
It was hard to expect major contributions from Jinx in team fights.
Additionally, the top laner Medeia had consistently shown they were not proficient in team fights.
– “Jinx! Just go straight into the twin towers! The Electricity Tower has no choice but to recall!”
– “Hoo… it seems like they didn’t gain much from winning the team fight.”
Commentary by Rai and Galleard.
A team fight was happening in the mid, while Jinx cleared the path to the top.
– “The Electricity Tower is maintaining their base. The game has entered a brief lull.”
– “The Electricity Tower team needs to finish this game quickly. If the Illusion Tower continues to grow in this situation, it could be dangerous.”
– “Yes, that’s right. They need to make their move while still at an advantage… Just as I said that! The Electricity Tower starts hitting Baron!”
Oooohhhh—!
The Electricity Tower makes their gamble.
The audience marveled at the rapidly depleting health of Baron.
“Not like this…! The Illusion Tower Master must win!”
“If they take Baron, they’ll lose instantly!”
The fandom had started to grow.
Many had fallen for the adorable yet fierce charm of Hina who was carrying the game, unlike her usual cute persona.
“Electricity Tower Master, you’re amazing!”
“Please step on me, Onee-chan!”
“Oh… I just want to be stepped on by the Electricity Tower Master once.”
“I wonder what kind of expression she’ll have when she wins the Arcane War? Just imagining it gives me goosebumps…”
Conversely, the Electricity Tower Master also had many fans.
Electra’s breathtaking beauty. Her sharp gaze that looked down upon others.
Her stiff demeanor and intimidating tone, contrasted by the warm leader she occasionally showed.
Such traits attracted a specific audience.
– “The Illusion Tower! All five are gathering to stop Baron. It’s a do-or-die situation!”
At that moment, the Illusion Tower made their move.
All five rushed in to stop Baron.
– “Volibear is clearing the line and teleporting to the top!”
In sync, Volibear joined by teleporting.
A 5 vs 5 skirmish ensued at Baron.
– “Ah! The Electricity Tower has taken Baron! They’ve also taken down the Illusion Tower’s ADC! Ashi’s dealing insane damage!”
– “The kiting is insane!”
– “Double kill! Triple kill! Quadra kill! Jinx gets left behind, but Ashi! She carries again this match!”
“Ah…! No! Hina!”
“Let’s go! Finish it!”
“I’m dying here—!”
Cheers erupted from the Electricity Tower fans while the Illusion Tower fans sank into despair.
The Electricity Tower quickly began pushing mid, empowered by the Baron buff.
– “Ah—! At this rate, the Electricity Tower! Can Jinx truly stop them?”
– “Honestly, no matter how good Jinx is, a 1 vs 3 seems impossible. This looks pretty much over…”
With nearly 40 seconds remaining until the champions of the Illusion Tower could revive, it was virtually certain that the Electricity Tower had won.
As the fans of the Electricity Tower cheered, suddenly, roars erupted from the Illusion Tower fans.
– “Ah! Just as I said! Jinx is teleporting to the top! She’s ignoring minions! She’s charging straight for the twin towers!!!”
Wooooooah—!!!
Jinx sacrificed her base and teleported to smash the twin towers, aiming to destroy the Nexus first.
– “Jinx! Her tower demolishing speed is unbelievable! At this rate, she might destroy it faster than the Electricity Tower! The Electricity Tower seems to have chosen not to recall and is pushing for the tower as well! Did they decide that pushing first was better than recalling?”
“Whoa… If it continues like this, Jinx might take it down first!”
“Seriously, Jinx’s tower pushing speed is insane!”
“Is it really happening?”
“No! Electra, hurry and destroy it!”
The most chaotic situation of the entire Arcane War.
Every audience member stood up, excited about the final tower push battle.
As Jinx hit the tower, the crowd began to notice her speed was increasing.
If it continued like this, victory for the Illusion Tower was assured.
“Yes, it’s happening! The Illusion Tower is going to win!”
“Go, Jinx! You are useful at moments like this!”
– “Jinx is hitting the Nexus at an incredible speed! The Electricity Tower is a step slower! If it continues like this…!”
Just when everyone was confident in the Illusion Tower’s victory.
A huge crystal arrow crossed the map.
– “AHHHHH! Just as I said! Ashi shoots! The ultimate magic crystal arrow! Could it be!?”
– “Hitting from this distance is going to be extremely difficult. But if that last crystal arrow hits Jinx, then…”
“Please hit! Please!”
“Jinx seems to be completely unaware!”
“Please…!”
In that split second, every audience member held their breath, their eyes following the crystal arrow.
– “Jinx! With just two hits left until she destroys the Nexus…!”
With incredible speed, Jinx was just two hits away from destroying the Nexus.
In that moment, the crystal arrow appeared on Jinx’s screen.
“Please…!”
“Please hit!”
“Could she really hit that?”
“She has to avoid it!”
“Jinx has no flash!”
Each audience member wished for or against Jinx hitting the crystal arrow.
The crystal arrow soared dangerously close to Jinx…
– “The arrow has arrived! Jinx has spotted it! But it’s already right in front of her…”
Rai’s commentary raised in intensity.
In that final moment, everyone focused intently.
And just then, the moment of truth arrived—
BANG—
– “AHHHHHHHHHH! It hit! The magic crystal arrow hit! Jinx has fainted!”
Woooooaaaaah—!!!
Cheers erupted, shaking the very Trinity itself.
Rai and Galleard jumped from their commentary booth, shouting at the top of their lungs.
The climactic scene created at the end brought everyone to their feet in uproarious joy.
– “Jinx! With victory right in front of her, she can do nothing! She’s stunned! It’s too long! In the meantime, the Electricity Tower starts hitting the Nexus! The health of the Nexus is plummeting!”
A long-range hit stunning her for an incredibly long time.
In that interval, the Electricity Tower began swiftly destroying the Nexus.
– “The Electricity Tower! While Jinx is fainted! The Electricity Tower! Ultimately…! The Nexus— is destroyed!”
– “GG—!!”
Thus, the Electricity Tower destroyed the Nexus first, ending the game.
The audience erupted into louder cheers.
“Electra-sama—!”
“Onee-chan, you’re so cool!!!!”
“Please look this way just once!”
Cheers from the Electricity Tower fans mixed with the despair of the Illusion Tower fans.
Now was the time for the Electricity Tower.
As the game concluded, the representatives of each tower emerged from their fantasies.
“Tower Master—!!”
“Tower Master, you were amazing!”
“Ahhhhhh—!”
All the Electricity Tower team members rushed towards Electra.
Electra welcomed her excited disciples with open arms.
“Phew, phew… everyone worked hard.”
“It’s all thanks to you, Tower Master! That last ultimate was unreal… I didn’t think it would hit!”
“I trusted you, Tower Master! You’re really the best!”
Her disciples held onto Electra, not wanting to let go.
While normally it would’ve been disrespectful for a disciple to act this way towards their Tower Master, Electra said nothing this time.
Instead, she embraced her disciples with a carefree smile, reveling in the cheers that filled the Trinity.
“What is Medeia doing?!”
“A-are you seriously just standing there expecting Ashi’s ultimate to fly over? I just assumed… I thought we had won.”
“You should have focused until the Nexus was destroyed! Why were you just idly hitting!”
“How could you be so unfocused to just stand there while the arrow came flying?!”
“I-I told you Ashi was going to shoot it!”
“No, I thought we won! I was preparing to log out and celebrate…”
“Not like this!!!”
In contrast, the mood among the Illusion Tower was not good.
All the blame fell on Medeia, who had halted her attacks, thinking they had already won.
In truth, if she had focused until the end, she could have avoided the situation.
However, it happened because Medeia was so sure of their victory.
“Master…!”
“Medeia is now banned from playing games…!”
Ultimately, she was ignored even by Hina.
“W-well, I guess that can happen. I mean, it shouldn’t but… we still placed second, so everyone worked hard!”
Rain tried to lighten the mood, and knowing everyone had worked hard, it ended well.
“It was a great match, Hina.”
“Y-yeah. Electra did well.”
After the match, the two tower masters shook hands.
Hina was a bit surprised when Electra smiled at her.
It had been so long since she last saw Electra smile like that.
Even in defeat, Hina thought it was a heartwarming moment to accept.
“B-but let’s play again next time. If Medeia hadn’t messed up, we would have won…”
“Yeah. Let’s do that, Hina.”
Hina and Electra exchanged smiles.
And thus, the Arcane War concluded with an unforgettable match.
*
“That was an incredible match, Tower Master.”
“The Illusion Tower was great too, but sadly, we performed better.”
“…If I had participated, we would have won.”
“Yes, I already know your COL skills are lacking. Just because you made the game doesn’t mean you’re good at it.”
“…”
After the finals, Rai and Electra exchanged greetings.
Electra had a very happy smile as she spoke with Rai.
Leah, on the other hand, was waiting unimpressed, her expression sour as she looked at Electra.
“You’re smiling a lot now.”
“…?”
“Electricity Tower Master, I thought you had no facial muscles when we first met, your expression was so stiff. But it’s beautiful to see you smile like that.”
“…Ah. Was I like that?”
Rai spoke with a smile.
Electra finally realized her mouth had been naturally turning up.
It wasn’t a dignified sight.
But it was just how Electra decided to be.
Just as she didn’t push away the disciples who embraced her after the finals.
“…Yeah. I suppose so. Thanks to COL, I’ve realized what’s truly important.”
“What’s truly important?”
“Yeah. Ultimately, even if it passes… the value of the happiness that moment brings doesn’t change.”
“…?”
Electra muttered those perplexing words.
Though Rai made a confused expression, she chose not to explain further.
Instead, she gently patted Rai’s head.
“Young wizard, you’ve really done something great. Let’s play a round of COL next time.”
“Sure. Let’s rank up together soon.”
“Ranked game?”
“Yeah. It’ll be added when officially released… but if I told you in advance, it wouldn’t be fun. You can try it for yourself when it officially releases.”
“Alright. Let’s do that.”
Rai bowed slightly towards Electra.
Electra received his bow and turned back to her electricity mages.
“Let’s head back. To the Electricity Tower.”
Now it was time to return to the Electricity Tower, carrying news of victory.
The winners of the Arcane War walked back with big smiles.
Except for Leah, who was inexplicably sulking.
Leah slowed her steps, trailing behind them as they walked.
“…Leah? Are your legs hurting?”
“No, I’m fine, Tower Master.”
Though she said that, Leah’s expression was still dim.
She walked slowly, staring at the ground.
“If something’s bothering you, please tell me. I won’t leave until you do.”
“Well…”
In truth, there wasn’t a big reason.
They had won the Arcane War, and Leah was happy.
But somehow, ever since before the Arcane War began, she felt a bit of resentment towards Electra.
“It seems like you’re really fond of Rai…”
Leah had put in countless effort to win Electra’s favor.
Even as an A-grade, she had studied magic like crazy to become the next Tower Master.
Leah respected Electra and wanted to be the student loved by her master.
But Electra had always been cold.
Leah never felt recognized or loved by her.
But suddenly, Rai appeared and got so much attention from Electra.
Jealousy was inevitable for Leah.
“That’s not true. I’m just thankful for the COL you created.”
“W-well, that’s true but… I…”
Leah stumbled over her words, feeling choked up.
She realized it was silly for someone her age to feel this way.
What they were feeling was a given.
She tried to hide her feelings and lift her head. But then—
Swoosh—
Without Leah noticing, Electra took her hand.
When Leah looked up, Electra was smiling gently.
“You’ve been doing well enough, Leah. It’s all my fault.”
“…Huh?”
“Today is a good day, so we should go have a celebration party. I’ll join too, and let’s eat lots of delicious food.”
“Y-You too, Tower Master?”
“Yes.”
Electra, who normally ate alone.
Surprised, Leah’s mouth dropped open.
But Electra didn’t give Leah a chance to respond and pulled her hand.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes, yes…”
Electra continued to hold Leah’s hand.
No matter what, Leah’s grievances no longer needed to be spoken.
Thus, Electra’s Arcane War truly came to an end.
Shortly after, COL was officially released.
