Chapter 53: Chapter 45 Mahito
The atmosphere was tense as Dante looked at the cursed spirit, with his hand still clutching the dagger's hilt. The spirit in front of him had frozen in place, almost as if it was waiting for Dante to make his move.
Dante's breaths came in short, sharp bursts as he tried to steady himself. He mentalized, and just as he was about to rush to his position.
He heard a sound. A soft scratching, like someone was writing in the dirt. He turned his head and saw words appearing on the ground. It was impossible, but there they were. He could only mutter a low "What..."
Dante's gaze shifted to the cursed spirit, who seemed to be watching him. For a moment, neither of them moved. The silence stretched out between them.
Then, the spirit slowly began to backpedal. Dante tensed his legs, ready to strike as there was a chance he incanted something with those words, but as time passed, it simply stood there, motionless once again.
After a few seconds, the intensity of Dante's gaze seemed to dissipate as if a wave of calm had washed over him. With a neutral tone, he asked, "Do you want me to read it?"
The presence didn't respond to him, seeing he wouldn't do much, cautiously Dante walked near the message, reading in it, "I tried to mess with your soul, but I couldn't because you don't make sense." This left Dante speechless, But everything he had been feeling, all the confusion and fear, suddenly made sense.
The cursed spirit's answer opened a swarm of questions in his head question: his soul? The other creatures didn't have any special ability. Is he different? Why?
Dante, feeling curious, decided to start the conversation with a light question. He asked, "Can you completely understand me, or do you only understand me partially?
The presence responded by writing in the grass, "Yes, I can understand you." Dante was relieved to know that he was able to communicate. It would be a problem if he spoke an ancient language that his ability couldn't translate.
Dante thought for a few seconds before asking what he considered important, "What's your name, and what are you?"
As I watched the cursed spirit before me, I couldn't help but sense the overwhelming aura of disbelief emanating from him.
Though his face was almost entirely invisible, I could still make out the subtle contortions of his facial features, which only accentuated his bafflement.
'Did I say something wrong?'
As the letters began appearing on the floor, "My name is Mahito, and do you really not know what I am?"
I muster a crude "No..." Is he such a common thing that not knowing is weird? Shit, I need to learn more, "I'm not quite normal, as you can see," My vibrant wings twitched. "Probably you should take a guess for how my soul interacted with you."
Mahito wrote, "Yes, It felt like an amalgamation, but the weirdest thing is that I can't feel a single drop of cursed energy inside you; you are such an anomaly."
Cursed energy?
Dante didn't know what the mana from this place was called, and now he has learned it, but the fact that a whole world is hidden from normal humans is interesting from Dante's perspective.
...
Wait... Mahito, Cursed energy... that sounds awfully familiar.
Dante thought in his mind, 'WAIT, I REMEMBER IT WAS FROM THAT ANIME, it was called.' Dante snapped his mental fingers, hoping to remember something. 'JUMPUTSU KAISER!'
...
FUCK! It's too faint... I won't be able to take care of the advantage of my knowledge. As Dante had a total ordeal deep inside his mind, Mahito wrote another question, "What's your name "
Dante thought, 'I already said I won't be using my original name instead of the fusion I did.' Dante presented himself to Mahito, "Call me Raida."
Mahito began questioning a bit more, mainly my knowledge about cursed spirits, energy, and why I have wings. I ended up answering with half-lies and half-truths. I didn't want to reveal much as for me. I asked for the basic knowledge everyone should know.
Apparently, the magic here is called jujutsu or sorcery, and he is a Special-grade cursed spirit, the pinnacle of his race and one of the "strongest" cursed spirits in this place.
So, I'm in a similar scaling position from the top dogs from this place. Unless there is an overpowered guy like the protagonist or something unpredictable, I will probably be safe.
The conversation kept unfolding...
...
...
...
Dante asked with a small tone of disbelief, "Let me get this straight, you want me to meet your "friends" and join you..." Mahito recently proposed to Dante join him after learning that he isn't a "human" in the sense of the word he knows.
Mahito wrote on the ground about how it would be fun. But I was still hesitant, so I replied to him, "I don't have a problem IF! We do it in an open space. I don't want any funny tricks."
Mahito responded in the paper I brought, "Don't worry, one of us will be fascinated by your existence. You don't use cursed energy. Instead, you use another type of energy. He probably will be intrigued by that."
Ah, right; I ended up telling him I use something different from cursed energy called mana and that I come from a faraway place. I didn't specify the region, just a faraway land.
Dante was still a bit hesitant, but he agreed to follow Mahito. He warned him, "But if I feel threatened, I'll just fly away, understood?" he said firmly."
Mahito wrote in the grass, "Come to this place tomorrow then, same hour."
With that finished, Dante walked back to the house he was staying, He couldn't shake off the feeling that he was being watched, but he didn't sense anyone following him.
Inside the house, he drank a potion to recover from any unforeseen problem. Who knows, he might strike at night to get whatever he wants.
When he entered the house, Sora looked up at him and asked, "Where did you go?"
Dante sighed and said, "For the reason I came to this place. Nothing to worry about. Also, I'll probably leave tomorrow. It was nice to meet you. I'll be taking the cursed finger with me. It's too dangerous to leave it here."
Sora gave him a curious look but didn't press the matter further. She replied, "Sure."
Dante took a potion to recover from any unforeseen problems and went to bed, hoping that his meeting with Mahito's friends wouldn't turn into a bloodbath.
Yet Dante didn't even comprehend a fraction of the danger he was. It was a miracle he survived.
The reason Dante survived idle transfiguration was thanks to the complex way his unique soul is formed. After all, he had no normal ability, and the memory reset he received enhanced that even further.
Dante is the amalgamation of 3 souls, to be exact, the souls of every character he has transformed and his soul.
Dante, Rarity and Rainbow Dash.
An example so everyone can understand how this interacts with this cursed technique: Souls are like clay to Mahito
Normal sorcerers have their unprotected clay, and when Mahito tries to re-shape it, they reinforce it with cursed energy, similar to placing a barrier beside it so they can't get their hands onto it.
But Dante's soul is different from that. His soul is more like a brick. The moment Mahito tries to reshape it, he finds that this soul isn't easy to mold. He will first have to break the brick and remake it again unless he touches Dante for a long period or Dante decides to let him in by weakening "the clay" Dante's soul will be safe from any danger.

Authors note:
also, remember that Dante has a lot of problems fighting cursed spirits because he can barely sense them.
