Chapter 112: Chapter 102 Roaches
Katley's vision blurred as the pressure of erasing so many core concepts crashed on her. The air felt heavier, like gravity itself had multiplied, and her chest constricted with each breath.
Katley's ability is quite complex; if she had to define it, it would be "Erasing," but there are 3 main ways that erasing can affect something.
The first way she could erase was straightforward: She deleted a concept, and the universe "corrected" the imbalance by filling it with the closest placeholder it could find, creating a bizarre illusion of 'creation.' The second and more brutal method was to erase without allowing any repairs, leaving a gaping void in reality itself, and the third and less useful, simply 'partially' erasing something.
Depending on Katley's intention, she can only affect certain areas or individuals. This time because she wanted to take a slight rest, she decided to go all out and erase as many concepts as possible to get them an advantage, with the hope of keeping these erased for as long as the battle last along with another potential reward.
Now, Dante's drastic tricks couldn't be played anymore without a consequence. The bang thing was out of the room. Dante would have to fix reality and break it so much that he would probably lose the mana clash over the control of the laws of the universe.
Forcing a few blue potions down her throat, she wrote in the chat, "My mana reserves are already at 43%. I'll start to drink some potions to recover at 80%. We will change from "Ace Buster" to "White Rabbits" tactics."
Dante snarled as the consequences of his own actions began to catch up with him. The toll from fending against many players was starting to slowly show up, but he could win.
He was running out of time. He just needed to kill Katley, and everything would be stabilized; after that, he could teleport far away without Katley canceling her motion.
Without warning, Dante blinked out of sight, bursting straight to her position. But as he closed in, he felt resistance. Her annoying allies were forming a figurative wall around her, a wall that he'd have to make his own entrance before being able to enter.
Katley, sensing his advance, spat out a single word, "Distance." Like always, the space between them got erased and multiplied, keeping her away from Dante's explosive range.
After not speaking for a while, Dante finally said a few words, "Do you think I'll let you get away?"
Katley's eyes narrowed, trying to understand what she said, 'Perhaps I got too far away-'
Dante's flaring eyes lost a bit of their spark as he prepared himself and concentrated his love and hate to circulate inside him, mumbling, "Distance..."
The air shimmered. In an instant, the space between them collapsed. Katley found herself just a breath away from the pink demon-- she found herself in the maw's beast.
The view impacted everyone, and thanks to the earlier erasure of the concepts, in a fraction of a nanosecond, a bunch of questions invaded everyone: 'Why was she there? Did she miscalculate?' But they quickly answered themselves in their minds, 'Impossible; she had never failed before, so why now?'
Without time to react outside of her mind, Katley's allies scrambled to counter; the black goo that assimilated with her had already sent all its tendrils to combat the threat, the shadow assassin was already exiting Katley's silhouette with knives flashing at Dante's exposed neck, the katana guy finally managed to get out of the painting, and a huge yellow energy slash was coming over and from above, like a meteor, the gauntlet warrior was about to impact the ground.
In the same heartbeat, the roar of a hypermetric projectile being shot at FTL speeds coupled with a giant anti-matter railgun discharging its full might at the same position echoed, and while all of this happened, dozens of meticulous magic circles sparkled in a kaleidoscope of rainbows.
As for Katley, she was furious; how dare someone steal her ability in such a blatant way.
She was surprised; her hopes were on the Aspect trying to play the long game.
But most importantly...
She was in danger.
The pink girl quickly grabbed a white card, the inside of this attracted all the projectiles that weren't too magical, temporarily nullifying them, as for the shadow guy he decided to play at his own game, Dante's shadow began to twist and swirl, jumping into life and diving to hold him from getting out of there.
Dante's gaze darkened as he raised a pink heart-shaped shield around himself; the shield's surface pulsed, effectively blocking and absorbing the energy slash and magical rainbow blast that came from the circle.
Finally, Dante's shadow extended its hate hands to stop the brawler from even attempting to finish its play.
His hands slammed with all their might against the tendrils of the goo, shattering them with a force so intense that the ground cracked beneath him.
Katley might survive, but with Dante so close and overwriting reality, the threat of dying WAS REAL, even if her own death was erased.
'I W O N'
His grip became thousands of times stronger, and the mental image of Katley's obliterated body was already projected onto Dante's mind, but Dante didn't know a small fact... Limit Breakers work in at least groups of 10 players.
"Soverign of the Three Realms: Heaven's Whisper Cut"
Dante's instincts screamed. He instantly moved back, his love shield splintered under the weight of the sudden attack; the free hate hands tried their best, bracing him just in time to delay the attack a split second.
He twisted away, narrowly avoiding the full force of the slash, leaving only a fiery line across his chest. If his reaction time had been just a little slower, he'd probably have been hit by that, and... that attack wasn't a normal one.
Dante's head whipped around, trying to find the source. A figure stood behind him, radiating an aura of calmness and overhelming confidence that filled the place in the blink of an eye.
Dante just offered him an annoyed look, "Do they just keep spawning somewhere...?"
The unknown figure spoke, with a male voice and a Chinese accent, "Oh...? I wanted to finish this with one strong movement yet you dodged... Ugh! Womens are truly a nuisence you can't even die in the way I want."
The man looked unimpressed by Dante's searing power. He gazed at the pink girl as if she were nothing more than a stubborn insect that just happened to survive more than normal. After giving that stare, he descended from the sky, his hand resting loosely on his sword.
Katley's eyes fixed on the new arrival; for the first time, she showed irritation and dissatisfaction that wasn't faked.
'Aren't they allies?'
The newcomer's gaze locked onto Katley; he smirked with a jestful smile and quickly teleported beside her as if acknowledging her importance in this battle. He kept his elegant posture all the time while he spoke, "You deviated from our main mission for this?"
Katley quickly retorted, "I told you to wait for me, as I was busy... But you couldn't, and she escaped, right?" Her smile widened after the newcomer's smile dimmed. She saw, "Let's ignore that and focus on what's in front of us."

Using chess as an analogy, Katley fulfills the important role of the king, being needed to keep coherence in the fight and cooperation, being the most important piece of this game.
Every one of her teammates represents other pieces, such as rooks, bishops, and knights. With each member specifically chosen thanks to their abilities and talent, yet... We are missing something crucial in this chessboard...
--all good monarchs ALWAYS come in pairs--
Standing with opposition in front of Dante was the queen of their board
the most powerful close combat fighter, unmatched in raw skill and talent.
As Katley can be considered a powerful king who harmonizes the team, the new addition to this fight could be regarded as the "Queen," the strongest fighter in the group, being exceptional in close combat strength.
Yes, the final member of this limit breaker group finally appeared.
The unparalleled Qi master 'Fang Shan' has joined the fight!
-----
Well, we are starting to "near" the end of this.
NGL, I expected at least 20 chapters of this...
Also, I have to remind you that the players who can fight (without counting Fang Shan, because he just got here) are constantly attacking Dante with a hit-and-run; you are just seeing the most important at that moment.

want to know something funny? Fang Shan is a protagonist in another work I wrote (Katley too.)
