Chapter 1311: Arriving at Resurrection Island
Half an hour later, the Ancestor Dragonite was finally caught by Lance. From afar, Yuga could see the Old Ancestor following Lance with a dejected look on its face.
Lance landed on the Wailord's back with the Ancestor Dragonite and said to Yuga, "Thanks to you, otherwise, I have no idea how long it would have taken me to find it."
As he spoke, Lance shot a glare at the Old Ancestor. Startled, the Old Ancestor shrank its neck under Lance's gaze.
This wasn't the first time something like this had happened. Every time the Old Ancestor sneaked off to play, Lance would have to spend an enormous amount of time looking for it. If it wasn't found, the mischievous Old Ancestor might not even think about returning home for months. Its record for being away was half a year.
Sometimes, even after tiring itself out, it would rather find a spot to sleep than remember to go home, leaving its family to worry needlessly.
Although the Old Ancestor was powerful and few people or Pokémon could pose a threat to it, its status within the Dragon Tamer clan was so high that the clan's concern was never unwarranted.
Having caused Lance so much trouble, the Old Ancestor always felt guilty when facing him. However, it never changed its mischievous ways.
Because of Lance's glare, the Old Ancestor gave Yuga a sorrowful look full of grievance, as if accusing him: I trust you so much, yet you went and stab me on the back! I'm so disappointed in you!
Yuga seemed to immediately understand the meaning conveyed in the Old Ancestor's gaze but could only turn his head away, pretending he hadn't seen anything.
Now that he had found the Old Ancestor, Lance felt relieved and lighthearted. He stopped to chat with Yuga for a bit.
He was curious about why Yuga was here and why members of the Joy family were with him, but he tactfully didn't press for details. Instead, he discussed some training techniques with Yuga.
Both of them were outstanding among the younger generation, and their training experiences complemented each other. Before long, the conversation became quite engaging.
Not far away, Joyha, Joyan, Jonah, and the others who are also Trainers, perked up their ears to listen to the two experts' exchange. As they listened, they found themselves gaining a lot of insights.
Although their training directions differed, the principles overlapped. The experiences shared by these top-tier Trainers often felt like revelations, giving them moments of sudden clarity.
In addition, Lance asked about the growth of the Dratini in Yuga's Ecopark—the one that had evolved into a Dragonair. This Dragonair was one Lance had exchanged with Yuga for a Bagon, so he was very concerned about its progress.
As time wore on, Lance reluctantly said his goodbyes.
"If you have the time, you should visit Blackthorn City. I'll make sure to be a good host," he said.
Blackthorn City was the ancestral home of the Dragon Tamer Clan and the base of their operations. The Blackthorn Gym, which the Dragon Tamer Clan oversaw, was also located there.
"Sure, I'll visit when I get the chance," Yuga replied.
Blackthorn City was a well-known city in Johto. Nestled in the mountains, it had a rich cultural atmosphere and the unique historical depth characteristic of the region.
At that moment, Lance suddenly seemed to recall something and said to Yuga, "Oh, by the way, our family is planning to hold a Trainer exchange event soon. During that time, we'll open the Dragon's Den to the visiting Trainers. If you're interested, you should come and take a look.
I'll definitely be in Blackthorn City then, so if you come, we can have a proper chat."
Lance was a very busy person and couldn't stay in Blackthorn City all the time.
Opening the Dragon's Den? Was the Dragon Tamer Clan really this generous?
According to what Yuga knew, the Dragon's Den was where the Dragon Tamer Clan raised their Dragon-type Pokémon. Such an important location, and they were actually willing to open it to the public?
"Sure, I'll definitely come," Yuga agreed. If time permitted, visiting the Dragon's Den wouldn't be a bad idea. He might even get a chance to meet the Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan.
Among the Master Trainers of the League, Yuga was yet to meet the Master from the Dragon Tamer Clan. It was said that this master hadn't left Blackthorn City in years.
Ever since Professor Oak rose to prominence in the Kanto (and Johto) region, the Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan had seldom made any appearances.
"I'll send you the date for the exchange event later. Make sure you come," Lance said enthusiastically.
"Old Ancestor, it's time to go." Lance called out to the Ancestor Dragonite, who was daydreaming. Only then did the Ancestor Dragonite reluctantly get up, dragging its feet.
As it flew off from Wailord's back, the Ancestpr Dragonite kept looking back, clearly reluctant to leave, its eyes seemingly glued to Yuga.
After Lance left, Yuga and his group continued their journey on Wailord, reinstalling the room they had dismantled earlier.
About ten days later, the group finally reached the waters around Resurrection Island.
Looking at the island so close at hand, Joyan and the others breathed a sigh of relief, their hearts finally relaxing.
The ten-day sea voyage hadn't been easy. Ever since they parted ways with Lance, it felt like their previous luck had run out. Along the way, they faced numerous attacks from wild Pokémon, and the weather had turned much harsher, with extreme conditions like strong winds and torrential rains following one after another.
At one point, they encountered a massive tsunami, and it was only by hiding inside Wailord's mouth that they survived the ordeal.
"Wailord, go with full speed ahead!" Jonah shouted from Wailord's head.
"Wailord~!"
Wailord wagged its tail cheerfully and surged forward toward Resurrection Island. The sudden acceleration nearly flung Yuga and the others into the sea.
After enduring the hardships of the journey, it wasn't just the group that was exhausted—Wailord, their mode of transportation, was also physically and mentally drained. Now that they were finally nearing their destination, how could it not be excited?
As they were jolted and sat back down on Wailord's back, Yuga and the others couldn't help but laugh. Their laughter was filled with relief.
About ten minutes later, they successfully landed.
Their landing site was on a sandy beach, different from the one they had used during their last visit.
After Jonah returned Wailord to its Pokéball, Yuga addressed the other five members of the group, "Let's set up camp here by the shore."
The area was open and lacked significant vegetation for cover, leaving no hiding spots for wild Pokémon attempting to ambush them.
As long as it wasn't an ambush, Yuga's group had no fear of facing attackers head-on.
"Got it."
The five responded in unison and immediately started working—clearing the area, building shelters, and so on. They might be staying here for several days, so their accommodations couldn't be too makeshift.
Considering the potential for rising tides on the beach, Yuga and his team chose a higher location for their campsite.
While the other five were hard at work setting up their shelters, Yuga summoned Palossand from his shadow space.
Upon being released, Palossand grew in size with the wind, quickly transforming into a towering castle.
The sight left Joyha and the others dumbfounded.
"Is… is that Palossand?" Joyin, the team's medical specialist, exclaimed in astonishment.
"Captain, you're not seriously planning to stay here, are you?" Joyan asked in disbelief. While she hadn't had much experience with Sandygast and Palossand, she knew these Pokémon were notorious for draining the life force of living beings.
Yuga replied, "Yes, I am. My body is special, so Palossand can't absorb my life force. That means I can stay inside its castle."
Joyan and the others suddenly understood. They were all aware that Yuga had unique abilities. While they knew he could communicate with Pokémon, they weren't entirely sure of the full extent of his powers.
Joyha immediately abandoned the half-finished shelter he was building and ran over to Palossand, circling it with fascination. "This is incredible! If only I had abilities like the Captain's. I'd never have to worry about sleeping rough while traveling again."
As a battle-oriented member of the Joy family, Joyha often traveled to remote areas where harsh conditions meant sleeping under the open sky.
The team's other male Trainer, Ajay, chuckled. "Stop dreaming and get back to building your shelter. When night falls, you'll be the one crying."
After ten days of traveling together, the six of them had grown familiar enough to joke around with one another.
Joyha pouted but resigned himself to finishing his shelter.
After arranging the furnishings—like a bed and a table—inside the castle, Yuga saw that the others were still busy setting up. He decided to lend them a hand.
Fortunately, with the help of their Pokémon, everyone managed to finish preparing their accommodations before nightfall.
For dinner, the group gathered in Joyin's shelter since it was the largest.
The six of them sat around a fire with a pot of noodles bubbling on top. As they ate, they discussed their plans for the following day.
"We want to avoid conflict with the Nido family, so peaceful negotiations are the best option. Since they likely need Pokeblock to survive in the wild, we can offer to make some for them in exchange for a share of their Revival Herbs," Yuga explained, outlining the plan he had discussed with the Joy family's elder.
Yuga recalled his positive interaction with the Nidoking leader of the Nido family during his last visit. He believed that if they could establish contact with it first, their mission would go much smoother.
The other five had been instructed before the mission to follow Yuga's lead, so none of them raised any objections.
Joyan suggested, "Since we're landing in a different spot this time, we don't know how far it is to the Nido family's territory. Should we scout the area tomorrow to get a sense of our surroundings?"
Yuga nodded in agreement. "That's a good idea. Since you and I have been here before and know the area a bit better, we can scout together tomorrow. The rest of you should stay behind to guard the camp."
Joyha eagerly raised his hand. "Can't I come along too?"
Yuga shook his head. "This island is extremely dangerous, full of high-level Pokémon. Since we don't know what we're dealing with yet, it's best if you stay here and help protect the camp."
"Alright," Joyha reluctantly agreed, pouting slightly.
After dinner, everyone left one Pokémon each to keep watch through the night and then returned to their respective rooms to rest.
The night passed peacefully.
The next morning, after breakfast, Yuga and Joyan packed their belongings and set off.
Leaving the beach area behind, Yuga and Joyan entered a dense forest. The ground was covered in vines and dead leaves, making it very difficult to move forward.
Yuga released his Decidueye to keep watch from the sky and sent out Serperior to clear the way ahead. Joyan released her Yanmega for aerial surveillance and Weavile to lead the path.
With Serperior and Weavile clearing the obstructing vegetation in their way, it became much easier for them to proceed.
"Captain, which direction should we head?" Joyan suddenly stopped and asked.
The island's vegetation was tall and dense, and after walking for a short while, the two of them were already beginning to lose their sense of direction.
Yuga waved at Decidueye in the sky. When it landed, he asked, "Can you see a bare rocky mountain in any direction?"
Yuga remembered that the Nido family's territory featured a rocky mountain exposed due to their excavation of Moon Stones. That mountain was quite tall, so if they were nearby, Decidueye should be able to spot it.
Decidueye nodded and flew up again. Before long, it returned and pointed out a direction where it had seen a bare rocky mountain, though it seemed to be quite far away.
"Looks like we've deviated quite a bit from the right direction," Yuga sighed.
"Then we'd better hurry," Joyan said, commanding Weavile to continue clearing the path.
The island was home to numerous wild Pokémon, and they were much more aggressive than those found elsewhere. It wasn't long before Yuga and Joyan found themselves surrounded by a group of Ariados.
There were many Ariados living on this island. Yuga remembered being surrounded by them during his previous visit.
The Ariados moved swiftly among the trees, and before long, they had set up a Poison Trap all around, spraying venom in every direction. Once they were sure that Yuga and Joyan had no way out, the Ariados leapt down from the trees, baring their poisonous fangs as they lunged toward the pair's necks.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Thud! Thud! Thud!
A series of sharp sounds pierced the air, and the Ariados lunging at Yuga were pinned to the ground by Decidueye's Spirit Shackle. Those attacking Joyan were slashed away by Yanmega's Air Slash.
But the remaining Ariados did not relent, continuing their relentless assault. Serperior spun its body, whipping its vines with incredible speed, sending the Ariados flying one after another.
Joyan's Weavile also joined the fray, exhaling blasts of icy wind that froze the attacking Ariados into blocks of ice, which then tumbled to the ground.
After losing over twenty of their companions, the remaining Ariados were finally frightened. They retreated into the foliage, abandoning their injured and immobilized comrades without a second thought.
From the perspective of the Ariados, captured companions were as good as lost—they would become food regardless, so saving them was pointless.
Yuga and Joyan ignored the incapacitated Ariados on the ground and quickly left the area.
Afterward, the pair encountered attacks from an Aipom, an Arbok, Victreebel, Beedrill, and Sandslash, among others. Each time, they managed to fend off their assailants one by one. The island seemed to conceal danger at every turn.
The saying "seeing a mountain and running yourself to death" rang true here. Although Decidueye could see the rocky mountain, Yuga and Joyan had been walking for half a day without reaching it.
Suddenly, they heard a series of loud roars. As seasoned trainers who had long interacted with Pokémon, they instantly recognized it as the sound of a Nidoking.
Thud… Thud… The sound of heavy footsteps drew closer and closer.
Sure enough, before long, a Nidoking emerged from the underbrush, leading a group of Nidorino, Nidorina, Nidoran♂, and Nidoran♀.
