Chapter 1310: Encountering the Dragonite Old Ancestor Again
The voyage across the ocean was monotonous. Day after day on the back of Wailord, Yuga and the others found themselves with nothing to do. Even the usually lively and energetic Joyha became lethargic after several days at sea.
Fortunately, while the days were dull, the weather had been favorable. Although there were occasional overcast and rainy days, they hadn't encountered any storms or rough waves so far.
Jonah's Wailord was enormous. With the materials prepared in advance by the Joy family in their spatial backpacks, they had built several simple shelters on Wailord's back, making them immune to the effects of ordinary wind and rain.
Wailord was also quite powerful. Its massive size deterred most wild Pokémon in the sea from provoking them, so their journey had been peaceful and safe over the past few days.
Yuga didn't feel particularly bored, as he spent most of his free time reading, making the days pass by in a blur.
On this day, the sky was clear and cloudless. Considering that Wailord had been traveling continuously for several days, the group decided to find a place to rest so that Wailord could take a break.
After some searching, they located a small coral reef inhabited by many Corsola and Shellder.
Using his ability, Yuga offered a few jars of Pokéblocks as a trade, successfully gaining permission from the Corsola and Shellder to rest on the reef for half a day.
Bored and looking for something to do, Joyan and the others pulled out fishing rods and started fishing off the edge of the reef. It wasn't that they were hoping to catch anything significant—it was just a way to pass the time.
However, since the area around the reef was mostly home to Corsola and Shellder, the group's lines frequently got nibbles but almost always reeled in these two kinds of Pokémon. Each time, they had no choice but to release their catches back into the sea.
Oddly enough, the Corsola and Shellder they caught didn't seem frightened. Instead, they swam around Joyan and the others, begging for food, leaving everyone amused and exasperated.
After half a day of rest, the group prepared to leave. But just as they were about to depart, they noticed the Corsola and Shellder suddenly panicking and diving into the sea. Yuga and the others immediately realized something was wrong.
Sure enough, moments later, a dark, swirling waterspout appeared on the distant horizon, heading straight toward them.
Yuga quickly shouted, "Hurry up, everyone! We need to leave now!"
"Yes!"
Joyha and the others responded with serious expressions, swiftly packing up their belongings. In no time, they were back on Wailord's back.
"Quick, let's move! If we delay any longer, that waterspout will catch up to us," Yuga urged.
"Wailord~"
Under Jonah's guidance, Wailord swam forward at full speed, quickly leaving the coral reef behind.
However, the group soon noticed that something was amiss. Although they were moving away from the waterspout's original trajectory, the storm seemed to be following them.
What's more, the surrounding sea remained calm and tranquil, except for the abrupt and unnatural appearance of the waterspout. Everything about it screamed unnatural.
"Captain, the waterspout is gaining on us. If this keeps up, it'll catch us," Jonah said anxiously while commanding Wailord to swim even faster.
Yuga and the others looked back and saw the waterspout drawing closer and closer. The sea around them began to churn as the abnormal weather intensified.
The more Yuga observed, the less he believed this was a naturally occurring phenomenon. But if it was caused by a Pokémon, the sheer scale of it seemed far too overwhelming to be ordinary.
Yuga's Dragonite is exceptionally skilled at manipulating weather, surpassing even most master-level Pokémon in this area. However, the tornado before them was beyond even Dragonite's ability to create.
Unless the tornado was controlled by a Level 100 Pokémon—but such Pokémon are exceedingly rare. They're not something you'd just encounter, like a common Rattata on the roadside.
The tornado's speed increased rapidly, drawing closer and closer to Yuga's group. The wind grew so intense that it was difficult to stand steadily on Wailord's back. Anxiously, Joyan asked Yuga, "Captain, what should we do?"
After a moment of thought, Yuga turned to the others. "Take down your rooms. We can't risk them being blown away by the wind."
Although the others were puzzled as to why they should worry about their rooms at a time like this, they complied with Yuga's orders.
Yuga, together with Nana, disassembled their room and packed the materials into a space backpack. As for Salamence, it had already been returned to its Poké Ball.
Once everything on Wailord's back was cleared, Yuga instructed, "Protect yourselves and make sure you don't get blown away by the wind."
Then, turning to Nana, he asked, "What do you think? Can you handle this tornado?"
"I'm not sure, but I'll give it a try!" Nana responded uncertainly. With the tornado looming ever closer, they had no choice but to brace themselves.
A few minutes later, the tornado was upon them, mere inches away. Waves surged under the influence of the violent winds, causing even the usually stable Wailord to sway uncontrollably.
Seeing the tornado up close was even more intimidating. Joyan and the others had no choice but to cling to Wailord's back to avoid being blown into the sea.
"Nana, it's time!" Yuga shouted, raising his voice to be heard over the howling winds.
Nana stepped forward, extending its right hand. Its eyes glowed fiercely with purple light, and an immense psychic force enveloped the tornado. The colossal whirlwind seemed to freeze in place, as though immobilized by an unseen force.
Joyan and the others watched in stunned silence, their eyes wide and jaws nearly dropping to the floor.
What… how is this possible?
Stopping a disaster-level tornado in its tracks—just how powerful was this Gardevoir? They could hardly comprehend it.
The intense outpouring of psychic energy visibly strained Nana. Its small, fair face scrunched up in concentration, and its body trembled slightly under the exertion.
"Dragonite~!"
A resonant cry echoed from within the now-still tornado. Yuga froze. That… was the cry of a Dragonite?
Could it be that the tornado was being controlled by a Dragonite?
Following the cry, the immobilized tornado suddenly began to stir again. Gales burst forth from the wind column, expanding outward as the tornado resumed its violent rotation.
Faced with this development, Nana had no choice but to intensify its psychic output. Its purple psychic energy merged with the tornado's winds, dyeing the entire vortex a faint lavender hue.
"Dragonite~!"
Another dragon's roar came from within the tornado. This time, the massive wind column exploded outward. The resulting tidal wave swept Yuga, Nana, Joyan, and the others off Wailord's back. Only Nana managed to remain airborne, using its psychic powers to levitate, while the others were thrown into the sea.
As the tornado dissipated, a pudgy Dragonite emerged in the sky, scratching its head awkwardly as it looked at Yuga and his companions struggling in the waves.
Ah, I was just trying to play a joke!
The Dragonite swooped down, scooping Yuga up from the ocean and placing him back on the Wailord's back.
"Cough, cough!"
Yuga, choking on seawater, felt extremely uncomfortable. His eyes stung so much from the saltwater that he couldn't open them, but he knew he had been saved.
Nana, having barely escaped the turbulence, initially thought the Dragonite was attacking Yuga. However, upon seeing it place Yuga safely back on the Wailord and then rescuing the others, it refrained from taking any rash actions.
Still, why does this Dragonite look so familiar?
By the time Yuga had caught his breath and reopened his eyes, the other five had already been saved by the Dragonite.
"Dragonite~!"
The Dragonite landed opposite Yuga, waving a paw and greeting him with an adorably goofy expression.
Yuga was startled at first but then hesitantly asked, "Old Ancestor?"
"Dragonite~ Dragonite~!"
Yes, yes, it's me!
Dragonite grinned widely as it replied. Hearing this, Yuga finally relaxed. He had not expected the master behind the tornado to be the Ancestor Dragonite of the Dragon Tamer clan.
A genuine Level 100 Pokémon—no wonder Nana couldn't defeat it.
Nana's current strength was only on par with Ninetales after its recovery, far weaker than a seasoned Level 100 Pokémon like the Ancestor Dragonite.
This Dragonite had been meticulously trained by the Dragon Tamer clan over the centuries. Even among other Level 100 Pokémon, it was unmatched, representing the family's legacy and pride.
"Old Ancestor, are you out here for fun?" Yuga asked again.
The Kanto and Johto regions shared a connected landmass and ocean. With the ancestor's speed, it could easily traverse the seas between the two regions.
Dragonite, hearing this, gave an embarrassed grin. It had sneaked out. While napping underwater, it had unintentionally discovered Yuga. Initially, it just wanted to play a prank and scare Yuga with a tornado, but it hadn't expected Yuga to send Nana into action.
The display of Nana's strength ignited the ancestor's competitive spirit, leading to the current situation.
Yuga couldn't help but marvel at how this old ancestor still remembered him after all these years.
At that moment, Joyha and the others, having recovered from the ordeal, noticed Yuga conversing with a strange Dragonite. They were momentarily confused.
What happened to the tornado?
Seeing that everyone was safe, Yuga sighed in relief but couldn't help thinking how not everyone could survive the ancestor's "jokes."
"Come, let me introduce you. This is the Ancestor Dragonite of the Dragon Tamer clan. The earlier tornado was just the old ancestor playing a prank on us," Yuga explained, waving the group over and introducing the Dragonite.
Hearing this, Joyha and the others were dumbfounded. That tornado was just a prank? We almost lost our lives! Are all big shots this outrageous?
Yuga, seeing the group still stunned, felt helpless. The ancestor's prank had indeed gone too far.
"Dragonite~!"
Where are you heading? Why are you here?
The Dragonite curiously asked Yuga.
Not wanting to reveal the Joy family's expedition to collect Revival Herbs, Yuga vaguely replied, "We're out adventuring."
Hearing this, the Dragonite's eyes lit up. "Where are you adventuring? Can I come along?"
It was tired of being cooped up at home, constantly monitored by Lance. Having finally sneaked out, it wanted to enjoy itself to the fullest.
Yuga hesitated, feeling conflicted. "Does your family even know you're out here? If I take you along, won't they blame me?"
The Dragonite grew even guiltier upon hearing this. At this point, Lance was surely searching everywhere for it.
Indeed, in a distant part of the sea, Lance was anxiously riding his Dragonite, scouring the area for the old ancestor.
Having such a mischievous ancestor was truly exhausting. One moment of inattention, and it had already disappeared without a trace.
Sigh~ So tiring! He was bound to go bald at this rate.
A wild Gyarados suddenly emerged from the sea, looking to pick a fight with Lance. However, Lance's mind was preoccupied with finding the old ancestor. He had no time to deal with a wild Gyarados. He simply commanded his Dragonite to use Thunder Punch, knocking the Gyarados out cold, and then flew off without a second thought.
Meanwhile, back with Yuga.
The Dragonite plopped itself down in front of Yuga, looking like it wasn't going anywhere unless Yuga agreed to take it along. Yuga was at a loss for what to do.
In the end, Yuga couldn't resist the old ancestor's insistence and pretended to agree to let it join them. He then said, "We'll need to rest for a bit before we leave. Please wait for me."
The old ancestor nodded enthusiastically. As long as Yuga agreed to take it, everything else could be worked out.
Yuga quietly stepped aside and dialed Lance's number.
Although they didn't communicate much, they still had each other's contact information.
Flying over the sea in a hurry, Lance suddenly heard his phone ring. When he looked at the caller ID and saw it was Yuga, he was puzzled. Why would Yuga be calling him now?
"What? You're saying the old ancestor is with you? And it wants to join you on an adventure?"
"Where are you?"
"Alright, send me your location. I'll head there right now."
After ending the call, Yuga sent Lance his coordinates. Once that was done, he thought to himself: I hope the old ancestor doesn't kill me when it sees Lance!
After everyone had rested and recovered, the Wailord set off again.
The Dragonite old ancestor lounged sideways on Wailord's back, propping its head up with one claw. It looked utterly relaxed and seemed to be in an excellent mood.
Yuga sighed and then snuck a glance at his communicator. It showed that Lance was closing in on their location at high speed. He wasn't too far away now, so it wouldn't take him long to arrive.
Yuga discreetly instructed Jonah to have Wailord slow down a bit to make it easier for Lance to catch up.
Several hours later, the once-relaxed old ancestor suddenly sat up straight and pointed at Yuga, yelling loudly. Surprised, Yuga looked closely and saw a small dot rapidly approaching in the distance.
As the dot grew closer, the old ancestor panicked, flapping its wings and flying off in a hurry as though Lance was some terrifying monster.
In no time, Lance arrived, landing his Dragonite in front of Yuga. He wasted no time asking, "Where's the old ancestor?"
Yuga pointed in the direction the old ancestor had fled. "It ran that way."
"Thank you!" Lance didn't have time for further conversation. He urged his Dragonite to take off again, quickly disappearing from view.
Please don't come back! Yuga silently prayed. He was afraid the old ancestor might return and take revenge on him for being a tattletale.
