Chapter 43: So….The fallout wasn’t that bad…Was it?
She had finally calmed down after being soothed for one hour.
In that time Rossie didn't come back nor anyone bothered them. And that was quite a surprise since the amount of magic that her mother had done was astounding, to say the least.
After calming down she came to terms with the monstrous status that had been shown to her.
After all...
If she could separate her mind from her soul & body. And then send that to a place where her [Skills], something inherent to her being, couldn't manifest.
What were a couple of stats on the 500 mark?
....
She wasn't quite sure what to make of that.
Granted her mother was a pure magical girl, unlike her who hadn't decided quite yet what to do.
Besides wasting more stats than she should in her fight against Akira & Rena...
She wondered if those status sheets had changed after her induction into [Idea]...
Oh...
No...Nononononono
"Mama...Does that mean that if I want to fully utilize my skills I need to use [Idea] to use them?" Asked the blonde girl to her mother.
They were in her bed right now, laying one beside the other one.
In the end, her mother had carried her to the bed to lie down and soothe her.
She did know her best after all...
"Hmmm...They do get more powerful, but unless you are fighting someone more powerful or with a higher presence on the plane...It isn't needed." She answered back.
Such a relief.
"I would suggest getting into the habit of doing so though." And then crashed all her hopes and dreams.
"Since it will make it easier to make the jump into higher level fights." Added her mother.
"So...They do it because it powers up their power..."She asked while referring to most of the high-tier heroes and villains. "Even if they look so...cringe..."
At this, her mother looked like someone that had been shot in the back by their best friend.
"Yeah, no one cares if you look cringe on the battlefield." Said her mother with seriousness. "Also if everyone is doing it, no one can mock you for it."
SO THEY KNEW THEY LOOKED CRINGE!
"In that aspect, that kid Akira is the better one in your grade." Added her mother.
Oh right, Akira was trying to use his skills and naming them.
"Part of the reason he awakened so many subset skills in one fight is that he kept trying to connect his skills with [Idea]." Said her mother.
"But he was using the wrong names for the skills," Elizabeth added in a questioning tone.
"HAH?!?" Was the response she got from his mother. "How...? Did it parse it wrong on this side?" Mumbled her mother.
So she knew he was from another world?
Granted, she was the premiere magical girl about traveling between worlds.
Should she mention his title?
...Better not, it might open old wounds on mother.
"Well, so long you use the right name...You can see the names of your skills, right? So if you want to make a new subset skill just...Ask your father!" Said the blonde woman with a bright smile.
Of course, she would deflect.
"On the magic side, just use [Idea] to guide the mana and focus on the [Spell Node]. Eventually, you will get the hang of it and will be able to use magic without having to build a node. But for now, focus on that!" Said her mother.
Then what is the point of spell nodes?
"And like that, you can save the [Spell Nodes] for spells outside of your affinity. No wait, you can see the [Names]. That way you can use spells outside your [Origin]." And finished saying to her mother while standing up from the bed.
She had to control herself from grabbing her arm to stop her.
She had wasted enough time from her time, and she was a busy magical girl...
She shouldn't tie her down here...
So she bade her goodbye. It had been a nice visit even if she didn't ask her to come.
And she didn't ask why she had come now, did she?
"Why did you come, by the way, mama?" Asked the blonde girl.
Catching by surprise the older woman if her face was something to go by.
"Oh... I'm leaving and you are just asking now?" Teased her mother. "I wanted to see you and there was a...Pest...Yeah, a pest around. So I killed two birds with one [Earth Bullet]." Said her mother while making a mock gun with her hand.
Right...
Hope Rossie wasn't said pest...
"Mama...Did you murder anyone on campus?" Asked the blonde girl, even as a premier magical girl. Her mother ought to keep appearances.
It was bad enough the fiasco they did to that Villain that tried to get into their home when she was five.
Punching someone into orbit for trying to get past their outer security network?
Yikes.
"Who you take me for Eli-Eli?!? Of course, I didn't!" Said her mother with an outraged face. "And if I did no one would find!" She of course crushed any sympathy she had for her in that phrase.
Classical, even if she was right.
Her mother had enough knowledge and magic power to send the corpses to other worlds...Or to rot in space.
She didn't even need to send them that far, just stick them into the sun...
Yeah...
She was going to steer clear of anyone that her [Identify] picked as more dangerous than her.
"Is Papa around?" Asked the blonde girl to her mother when they arrived at the door.
"Aaawww, you missed Papa too?" Cooed her mother while pinching her cheek.
"I want to ask him a question about my [Skills]." Said the blonde girl grimacing, not because of the babying her mother was doing.
But because that one phrase took almost 10% of her mana pool.
Yikes, it seems her [Skills] were quite heavy. Now the question is...
The heavy ones are her [Shadow] or the [Status] ones.
Probably the second since those had quite several [Subset] ones.
"Papa is quite busy nowadays. Some nonsense with the Italians." Said her mother.
The Italians?
Was her family messing with the mafia? Isn't that work for the police?
"I can ask him to just obliterate that side of the world if it's urgent." Said her mother while grabbing her phone.
"No no, it's fine. I will ask someone else..." Said the blonde girl, quickly adding "Without getting into specifics." Her mother worried too much about her [Soulscape].
Granted, it was a door to her origin of power.
But that much secrecy was really needed?
Well, she was one of the few at the top of power, so maybe she ought to have some rights.
She would ask Alexanders later in her [Soulscape].
For now, she would lie in bed and wait for Rossie to come back.
Maybe she would tie her with a few shadow ropes and use it as a hugging pillow?
She ought to have enough strength to manage that.
Hmm...
"If you are sure baby girl." Said her mother bringing her back from her musings.
"Love you, mama." And on that note, her mother manifested a magical circle under her feet and teleported away.
She didn't even catch the movement of her mana.
"Show off." Was all she could say while walking back to her bed.
Good thing it was Mother and so, she didn't change out of her pajamas.
Now she could go back to her bed and maybe sleep until the afternoon.
....She was hungry though.
"Might as well." Said the blonde girl while walking to the kitchen.
She wasn't Rossie, so she didn't prepare five stars or five-diamond breakfast.
She just got some normal eggs and a few stripes of bacon and prepared herself a normal breakfast.
She would eat in bed. And no one could stop her!
"...Keep up the good work." Said the blonde girl to one of the blobs of shadows in the kitchen, the poor thing was trying to get the clean dishes out of the dishwasher machine.
She willed while focusing on the blob and soon enough it had a couple of little itty bitty hands.
They were coming quite nicely even if they for some reason had a reptile-looking form.
Should she try to make them something else or allow them to keep on that route?
More questions to answer and so little time to sleep.
She awoke later in the afternoon to the smell of food in the kitchen, and hugging a shadowy reptile that was starting to grow wings?
So leaving her shadow minions on their own evolutionary path had ended them adopting a reptile look?
Had she been affected by the projection her mother showed of the original [Idea] example?
That thing looked like a member of the Komodo family if anything was to go by.
"You could be cuter." Said the blonde girl while looking at the shadowy creature.
And with some flicks of her will she modified his appearance.
Soon enough the shadowy blob took a more definitive form, it was small enough but it still was big enough to serve as a hugging pillow.
Rossie would be safe from the terrible fate of being chained by shadowy chains and used as a hug pillow it seemed.
The blonde girl couldn't help but smile at the self-deprecating joke of trying to tie her new friend and use it as a replacement to soothe her nerves.
In more important news, the dragon finished forming.
It was small and cute as she wanted, while also having a certain charm and air of mystery as any shadow creature should have. She could feel that a flick of will was all that was needed to increase its size to a more extreme size.
It was covered in obsidian scales that seemed to exude a shadowy mist from its interior. Its eyes were of deep blue-purplish color. On its back, you could see small wings that seemed too delicate to help it fly. It dispelled Elizabeth's fears by taking to fly and doing a test flight in her room.
So it could sense her worries?
Interesting.
Now that it was flying she could see that it was leaving a shadowy trail behind itself. It didn't last long, and she had a feeling that she could order it to not leave anything.
But she wouldn't...
If she needed to use them as spies the knowledge of them leaving trails could be useful as misdirection.
Looking at the little thing closer she continued her detailed examination of her new pet. Its small paws were quite adorable and for some reason had the same paw pads as a cat.
Its front legs didn't have them and those were closer to a claw than something else, so the little thing could probably hold tools with those hands.
Useful.
Next was the tail, it was short and stubby with some little spines showing on its tail and going all the way ending on its head.
Where they divided in two different directions to serve as a kind of decoration similar to a crown made of horns.
Hoho...Did she get some royalty here?
She summoned another one of the little dragons and the next one didn't have that crown. Even though it did have almost the same form.
That one only had horns without the crown of shadowy horns.
Was she summoning different ones?
Notice: |
The user has awakened the [Subset Skill - Minion Summoning].
The user can condense her [Shadow Energy] to summon minions capable of following certain orders. Specialiced orders require specialized minions.
One specialized minion slot is awarded each 10 levels.
Current Especialiced minion slots used [1]: - Nyxfyre, the Twilight Dragon of the End.
Each specialized minion determines the type of normal minions to be summoned. The user is advised to choose carefully before creating a specialized minion. As the [Idea] built into them determines their scope of work.
If no [Idea] is used, the minion will take the overall state of mind of the [Host] and fulfill her needs as it sees fit.
[Warning: Minions summoned by this skill aren't alive.] |
"...Fancy name you got there." Said the blonde girl to the shadow dragon that finished his inspection of her room. And now was hovering in front of her.
"...Not gonna use that name, you are now Nyx!" Declared the young girl to the shadowy dragon.
For his part, said dragon didn't seem to mind it that much. Besides deciding to sit on her head while becoming smaller to accommodate the girl.
So without wondering too much about what kind of directives had been implanted in her new minion horde. She went to follow the smell of food.
"You are awake Eli-Eli!" Received her with a hug from her pink-haired friend.
Good to know she was still alive. She didn't doubt Mother... But that woman could do some excessive stuff. Like shoving the mind of someone into another plane of existence to show them something.
Actually. What was the point of that?
"Morning Rossie." Answered back the blonde girl.
For some reason, the hug was getting extra long...Not that she minded.
"Let's go eat Rossie." Said the girl while wondering what was that about?
Did something feel...different?
Like they were doing something backward?
She couldn't point out what it was.
"Glad that you feel better, when I returned after your...Mother sent me the message that she had left. I found you hugging a pillow on your bed." Said her roommate.
So Mother did indeed go to see her friend?
She looked prim and proper, so she probably didn't embarrass herself, she was kinda cute in her uniform after all.
So Mother probably didn't cause too much fuss about how she dressed.
Unlike herself who was only in pajamas. Even to this day, her mother harassed her about going around the house in her pajamas.
Wait...
She looked at Rossie, she was dressed in her uniform.
She was walking towards the table where she had eaten breakfast with her mother earlier that day.
"Something the matter Eli-Eli?" Asked her friend while sitting on the table to eat her dinner.
She looked to herself while walking to the table too.
She was in her pajamas...
She hadn't changed into her uniform earlier that day. Since Rossie left when her mother came, she didn't feel the need to change.
And now she was stuck in her pajamas...
Her blue and silky pajamas.
At least this was still the pant and shirt set and not one of her sleeping gowns... Those didn't leave much to the imagination with their thin silk cloth.
She felt how her cheeks were flushing too.
"Yeah, everything is alright." She said while sitting and looking straight into her dinner.
No point in worrying about that, they were friends, and it was bound to happen. Especially since they were living together.
Besides, she had seen plenty of Rossie running around in her own sleeping wear anyway!
Yeah!
It was fair for her friend!
...She was going to see if she could use her [Inventory] skill to dress.
And if it did not work like that?
She was going to hit Alexanders till he made it work like that!
No wait, couldn't she use her [Shift] skill to solve this?!?
But she hadn't set a normal wear set yet...
Uuuughhh...
She was going to affix a pajama set, casual set, and uniform set!
To hell to be a spendthrift like her mother!
If it worked for her mother, it would work for her too!
