I Became an Extra Without Growth in the Academy

Chapter 23

There’s a law called Heinrich’s Law.

It states that before a big event occurs, numerous small incidents and signs must exist, and it definitely seems true.

“Hah, what the heck…”

I just experienced that small accident firsthand—how could I say otherwise?

I woke up to find the wall gone. Beyond it, the room was a total mess.

Well, I’m a bit confused about whether this is truly a ‘small’ accident. Compared to a whole building collapsing, I guess one wall is small enough.

Upon closer inspection, I also see a scruffy-looking guy buried among various experimental tools.

That crazy bastard… I knew he would blow up the dorm someday, but I didn’t expect him to cause this much chaos in just one day.

I figured things would get messy, but this is too much. What if he goes ahead and suddenly combines stuff without warning?

But judging by how soundly he sleeps, it seems he has no idea that any of this happened. With that in mind, I decided to stomp over to the adjoining room to wake him up.

As I got closer, I kicked aside some flasks that were covering him, finally getting a clear look at what he looked like.

He has spiky white hair and a skinny frame. Wearing a white lab coat, it’s clear the kid is still young, but if he keeps this up, he’ll definitely turn into a stereotypical mad scientist as he ages.

Even if he’s young, he has enough talent to blow up an entire dorm.

“Hey, wake up!”

“Uuuum… Who are you?”

The sleepy dude blinked at me in confusion, then jumped back in surprise.

“W-who are you?! Don’t just barge into the lab of Frank!”

The guy’s name is, as I previously mentioned, Frank.

And his family name is Kenshtein.

Right, Frank Kenshtein. It’s a parody of that famous name.

As if he were a mad scientist, he carries around such a ridiculous name.

He still seems oblivious to what he did wrong, so I just pointed toward the vanished wall without saying anything.

My room, which still looks a bit messy but is much cleaner than this, was starkly revealed.

“What, what’s going on?”

Frank stared blankly for a moment as if the accident had short-circuited his brain, then he realized the situation and immediately dropped to the floor.

“I’m sorry! Can you keep this a secret?”

Then he started pleading like that.

What would Rudion have said in the original? Honestly, I didn’t care, and my answer was already set in stone.

“Nope.”

“Please! Just think about it for a second…!”

Frank began desperately begging as if my firm answer shook him to his core.

But my decision was resolute.

“Wait, aren’t you Rudion? I can’t believe such a great person is living next door!”

He was slowly starting to realize who I was, trying to butter me up and desperately conveying his desire to change my mind, but despite that, my decision remained unyielding.

No way. I’m not changing it. I’ve no intention of turning back. Go back quickly.

Am I really just going to let this slide? Absolutely not.

If I ignore this incident, it will surely escalate into a bigger disaster—a collapse of the dorm seems like a given in this scenario.

To prevent that, I needed to handle this properly.

As a member of the Student Council, it was really simple:

I’d tell Alkiné, publicize it, and hold another disciplinary committee.

Then, I’d seat Frank in the place where Seria had sat yesterday and enjoy the more entertaining proceedings compared to yesterday.

Since he hasn’t committed a major disaster yet, I figured he’d just get periodic monitoring or have his experimental tools confiscated or something similar.

“I promise I’ll dedicate my future success to you, Rudion! I’ll make sure to provide free access to all my creations! So, please…”

He probably expected this to happen, which is why he seemed desperate.

Seeing him like that got me thinking.

Is it really the right thing to stop this kid’s experiments?

No, stopping this kind of guy would only make him crazier. On the contrary, it could lead to an even quicker disaster resulting in the dorm collapsing.

I swear it’s not due to him promising glory and free access to his results that I’m tempted.

…To be honest, I’m slightly tempted.

But listen, how could I refuse the chance to use a mad scientist’s results that didn’t even appear in the original?

Before I knew it, my mindset had shifted towards helping him.

So what should I do?

After contemplating for a moment, the answer came to me.

“Hey, get ready for school.”

“There’s still about two hours until school starts… No! I’ll get ready right away!”

Yes, that’s how it should be.

You know what they say about experienced players? They get lucky even in their sleep! Just trust and follow me.

After getting my act together, I stepped outside the dorm, greeted by an oddly quiet and empty atmosphere.

Of course, it was still early enough that most people were probably still asleep.

In these early hours, Frank, forcibly dragged out, nervously followed behind me, hesitating a bit.

I assured him he’d figure it out once we arrived, so I told him to just follow me, though he looked a bit anxious as a result… but I wasn’t planning on being too nice to the guy who broke my wall, so I kept my mouth shut.

Frank, continuing his precarious and low-key experiments in the dorm, was indeed a result of discrimination.

He had been placed in a lower class that didn’t provide proper research support.

Of course, that wasn’t the Academy’s fault. This idiot decided to come crawling here instead of becoming an actual researcher.

In the end, the dorm collapse incident can be regarded as a tragedy resulting from a lower-class student not getting a proper place to conduct his research.

Therefore, if only he had a proper space, there would be no reason for him to conduct experiments in the dorm, and the dorm collapse incident would fade away naturally.

It’s the perfect solution.

Now, all I need to do is find a suitable space… The Academy has quite a few unused spaces on its vast grounds.

There are even some abandoned buildings that haven’t been used even once until the game ends.

But that’s just the game; in reality, someone might be using them, right?

So I had to make sure to find a building that no one would probably be in.
The place I was heading to was just that spot.

It is located in the deepest corner of the forest, a building where no human foot has tread.
It seems like something was being constructed and then forgotten, but I was sure no one would be living there.

Of course, getting there would mean memorizing the arrangement of the densely packed trees, so I’d probably get lost for a while. But honestly, there’s no place more fitting for the current situation than this one.

After about 40 minutes, I finally found the building I was looking for.

“We’re here.”

“…What even is this place?”

A fairly large wooden cabin.

Despite definitely existing in the game, it was an enigmatic structure with zero interactions.

As expected, there was no sign of life around here.

Right. If someone were here, it’d likely be a ghost.

…Thinking about that is scary. I decided to not think about ghosts.

As I was looking around the randomly placed cabin, Frank approached me and said something odd.

“Are you planning to bury me in the woods?”

“What do you take me for?”

After all this effort to find a vacant house, and the return was him thinking I was going to murder him?

But considering his circumstances, it wouldn’t be unexpected.

He messed up badly, got dragged out without forgiveness, and now was being led deeper into dark woods for about 40 minutes?

Wow… Thinking back, it’s a miracle he didn’t run away sooner.

But hey, in the end, I found him a place, so isn’t that what matters? Now I just need him to experiment here instead of in the dorm.

When I told him that, his eyes lit up, and he began staring intently at the cabin.

“Can… can I go inside?”

“Sure.”

Once curiosity piqued in him, he asked that, and since it’s not my cabin, I said sure, why not.

I was curious about the inside too, so I casually joined him. I never got to check it out in the game.

Once inside the cabin, I was surprised to find it was cleaner than I expected.

Or rather, it was completely empty, so apart from the dust on the floor, it didn’t seem filthy at all?

Of course, if I were to vocalize that thought, who knows what mayhem could ensue, so I kept my mouth shut.

While I was having those thoughts, Frank started revealing just how excited he was as he explored the inside…

“With this size, I can finally do experiments that were cramped in my plans! I can set up this here… and that over there…”

He began mumbling to himself about what he could do, so I didn’t need to pay attention anymore.

I lightly tapped Frank on the shoulder, pulling him from his own little world.

“Okay, I get it. Let’s head back. If we hurry, we can get back just in time for school.”

“Right! We should mark a few signs on the way back. It seems it won’t be easy to find this place just by memory…”

“Do as you please.”

After all, I doubt anyone will come here anyway.

Even if someone does come looking for those signs, the one who gets into trouble won’t be me but Frank.

I just need to sit back and wait for him to come up with something. This is just a laid-back game.
