I Became an Extra Without Growth in the Academy

Chapter 22

There’s a tale that if an academy student commits a mistake, the Disciplinary Committee will be convened. I really liked this story.

The reason it’s in the past tense is… well, because I’ve now experienced it firsthand, it feels a bit awkward to say I liked it.

In the center of the academy grounds stands a rather abandoned Student Council Building. Unlike the remote corners near the Rift, this place is small and unkempt, and it’s been a while since anyone has entered.

Seria blew the roof off the student cafeteria, which is why the Disciplinary Committee was called.

Since this incident is related to the cafeteria, which everyone uses, the response was rather swift.

Of course, the involvement of a princess who belongs to the Student Council also played a part, but it was quite extraordinary that the Disciplinary Committee was convened in just about an hour or two.

So, here we are, with a total of five people gathered.

First up is Seria, the protagonist of this incident.

Then we have Alkiné, the Student Council President in charge of conducting the Disciplinary Committee and its verdict.

Diggerus, the vice president, who seems to have just tagged along.

Reina, the teacher acting as the committee supervisor.

And finally… me, the Student Council secretary.

It was a rather tense lineup. What kind of Disciplinary Committee is this?

At this point, it’s practically a regular Student Council meeting.

In fact, the atmosphere was far from that of a Disciplinary Committee.

“Aha! In all my time as a faculty member at the academy, you’re the first to destroy the cafeteria! Truly amazing!”

“Please don’t tease me…”

On the bright side, Seria doesn’t try to pin the blame on me for coming to this spot.

For your information, the reason the Student Council is leading instead of the Disciplinary Committee is simply that there is no Disciplinary Committee.

They probably figured if you had the strength to be on a Disciplinary Committee, just help the Student Council tackle the Rift instead… or something along those lines.

Anyway, since we’re all familiar faces, it was a situation where there was no trace of tension.

Even Alkiné, who usually takes such matters seriously, was chuckling.

“Alright… I will now conduct the Disciplinary Committee on the case of the damage to academy property.”

After it started, it just dragged on boringly.

It was all very formal and dry, like reading from a script, so it was not interesting at all.

I’m the secretary, so I took notes and organized everything, but it all boiled down to a single sentence despite being long and tedious.

– Using aggressive magic in the student cafeteria is a major mistake, but since no one got hurt and there was no collateral damage, we will impose a week of campus service on Seria.

Verdict finished. Bang bang bang.

Still, considering she’s a princess, a week of campus service is quite lenient. I thought it might just be something like writing a letter of reflection.

Given that there were quite a few witnesses, it seemed they had no choice but to impose a punishment that would catch people’s attention.

Seria accepted that outcome without showing any dislike.

“Rudion will help me too, right?”

“Why should I serve your punishment alongside you?”

“Well, Rudion also has some blame, after all.”

I thought she accepted it, but as soon as the Disciplinary Committee ended, she started that again.

At this point, I really began to wonder what I did wrong, but no matter how much I think about it, I didn’t do anything!

So, I firmly refused, and she sulked a bit.

“Lilith will help me. Why won’t you help me?”

“That’s different. She’s helping because that’s her own development, and you’re being punished for your mistake.”

“Then let’s do this. I’ll help Lilith too, so Rudion will just help me in return with his saved energy. How about that?”

Ugh, seriously. I was at a loss for words because it was so ridiculous. She’s not supposed to be this kind of character; how did she end up like this?

But isn’t it better than the original’s portrayal where she didn’t talk to anyone?

Even though she’s the type who would be quick to snap at someone talking to her, I started to feel like maybe I should give a little in return for her persistent request.

If Seria helps Lilith with her training, there are plenty of benefits to be gained in various ways.

No matter how much Lilith specializes in combat, in the end, she’s a saint who relies primarily on magic. So, it’s clear that Seria’s magical knowledge would be a huge help to her.

The more I think about it, the more my desire to refuse dwindles. At this point, I was just trying to find a reason to accept her proposal, but in these cases, the fact that a reason is found is what matters.

“Alright, fine, I’ll help. I don’t have anything else to do anyway.”

“Really?! Thank you, Rudion!”

Hug!

What’s so great that she’s suddenly hugging me like that…?

Why are we expending dramatic cutscene energy meant for defeating the Demon King at the end here?

I felt like something had twisted a bit, but with the gorgeous girl in my arms, those thoughts didn’t seem all that important.

After that, I headed to the cafeteria, which now had no roof.

The other members had already either eaten dinner or had other things to do.

Since I had a late lunch earlier, I wasn’t that hungry, but if I didn’t eat now, I knew I’d definitely want to munch on something late at night, so I had no choice but to eat.

I don’t mind late-night snacks, but since the concept of late-night snacks barely exists within the academy, it’s really a non-issue.

The only place to eat here is the student cafeteria, and they don’t operate late at night.

If I really wanted something to eat, I could venture outside the academy for a night market exploration, but of course, that would violate the rules.

I’m willing to ignore the rules if it’s necessary, but breaking them just because I’m hungry? Not even worth mentioning.

So, it’s best to avoid feeling hungry at night as much as possible.

For that reason, when I arrived at the student cafeteria, I found a board sign I’d never seen before set up at the door.

It read, “Our cafeteria is operating normally even without a roof!” and there was a cute character drawn on it that looked just like Seria—so obviously targeted at her.

I wondered what on earth would drive someone to target a princess like this, but then I remembered who the cafeteria manager was, and I thought, “Oh, that makes sense.”

Anyway, I have to tease her about this.

I immediately called Seria over and pointed at the sign.

“Hey, Seria. Look at this cute drawing. Isn’t it you?”

“Are you saying I’m cute? Hehe, thank you.”

“Wow, you really don’t get it anymore, huh.”

She seems to have really changed. I’m exaggerating a bit, but the girl who would catch every tiny sound now can’t even grasp simple comments?

Is the original content and the lore data starting to lose their meaning?

I gave up on teasing Seria and entered the cafeteria, which was bustling with people gathered for dinner.

It was so noisy that I couldn’t really hear what they were saying, but I guessed they were probably talking about why there was no roof.

I was worried it might be dark since the ceiling lights were gone with the ceiling, but it looked like some wonderful friends who knew light magic with light attribute spells helped create some ambient lighting.

Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy a pleasant meal while looking up at the sky.

Although Seria left most of her food untouched since she said she wasn’t that hungry, I just ended up eating it all because it felt like such a waste.

Seriously, if you were just going to leave it all, why’d you even follow me here?

That five-star meal, even with rave reviews, becomes tiresome if you force yourself to eat.

On my way back to the dormitory after realizing that, the sun had already set, but there were light fixtures everywhere, so it wasn’t that dark.

Seria, who was walking next to me, spoke up lightly.

“You must have been pretty busy today.”

She had already heard about the events from the Student Council.

To be precise, I hinted to her while we were eating.

“It’s just too much to handle. I think I could just fall asleep as soon as I lie down.”

I attended the entrance ceremony, watched the major brawl organized by Reina, helped with Lilith’s training afterwards, saved the Student Council from near destruction, and then went to eat only to have Seria blow the roof off, leading to a Disciplinary Committee… hmm, that’s quite a lot to pack into a single day. No wonder I’m exhausted.

“You look clearly tired. But aren’t you going to sleep right away? You should wash up and then sleep.”

“Isn’t there a spell that can just handle that?”

“There is a related spell, but theoretically it might clean you up, but you’ll still feel a bit gross, so I’d recommend just washing instead.”

Oh, looks like this isn’t new. Now, even when a surprise pops up, it’s not really that surprising.

They probably didn’t implement spells that help with daily life because they aren’t particularly necessary for progression—just a thought.

Regardless, since it would feel gross even if I used it, I wasn’t keen on using that spell. I prefer to wash up honestly and feel fresh.

As we casually chatted while walking, before I knew it, it was time to part ways.

The boys’ and girls’ dormitories are located in entirely different places, so we needed to split up at the midpoint.

I glanced over at Seria to say goodbye, but for some reason, she didn’t seem inclined to move away from my side.

We just passed the road to the girls’ dormitory a moment ago. What’s going on?

At that moment, Seria called my name.

“Rudion.”

The lighting was installed awkwardly, making it slightly dark, so I couldn’t see her face clearly.

I could tell she wasn’t looking straight at me, though.

I was wondering what she was trying to say by setting such a mood when she said something surprisingly bland.

“From tomorrow… no, going forward, would you like to walk back together like this?”

It’s just walking back together when the timing allows it. What’s the big deal about it?

We’ll naturally end up walking back together after attending classes and helping with campus service, so why ask me this?

“I was planning to do that anyway.”

“…Why throw out something so casually? Hah, never mind. See you tomorrow, Rudion.”

I gave a light response, and her strange reaction caught my attention, but if I were to analyze it, it seemed to veer towards the good side, so I decided not to dwell on it.

Under the dark sky, watching Seria’s figure fade into the distance, it felt like the day had indeed come to an end.

‘It’s been a bit tough, but at least it all ended without any major problems.’

As that thought crossed my mind, my lips naturally curled up.

But for tomorrow… no, for a while, I hope nothing major comes up. This is just too exhausting.

…Did I get caught up in the major characters’ shenanigans?

Sigh. Oh well, if things go wrong, it’s not a huge loss.

After returning to the dormitory, I washed up.

As soon as I saw the bed, a longing to lie down surged up, but Seria’s words echoed in my mind, so I couldn’t do it.

After a struggle, I managed to wash up and finally lay down on my bed, and my eyes closed almost instantly without room for other thoughts.

Thus came the next morning. When I woke up, the room felt unusually spacious.

“What the hell…?!”

Now that I looked closer, it wasn’t that the room had gotten bigger; it was that the wall had disappeared, connecting it to the neighboring room.

What the heck? Give me back my wall!
