Chapter 58 – Werewolf.
[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
Snape looked at the tree standing out in the moonlit night outside the school. He had seen this place many times before, but this was the first time he approached it for a closer look.
He knew that while he was investigating Lupin years ago, the school nurse would always bring him here once a month. He even tried to warn Lily at the time, which made his ex-friend furious as he kept trying to make her stay away from Lupin, saying he was dangerous. The headmaster didn't help much either.
He continued walking, finding an entrance in the middle of the tree, then followed, looking at the tree, expecting some reaction from it as he was now in its territory.
"He's going in!!" Far away, James, Sirius, and Peter watched from a distance, hidden, while waiting for this very moment to happen. They hadn't been able to get revenge on Snape, and he continued to humiliate them without them being able to do anything.
This made the letter an option, albeit a somewhat extreme one, but having finally the opportunity to see Snape cornered, they hoped to see him run away, even though he didn't seem to know the danger that being in a room with a werewolf posed for an ordinary student.
Everything seemed to be going according to their plan as they saw Snape continue walking even under the tree. "Hey, why isn't he using a spell to calm the Whomping Willow?" Black asked, surprised as he watched Snape keep walking.
"Does he know how to use that spell?" Peter asked as James and Potter realized Snape could be crushed before even reaching the transformed Lupin.
However, in the next moment, the willow made its move so fast that no one could react. It simply bent its trunk and seemed to slam Snape in the next instant, even destroying the ground around it.
The three Marauders looked at this with wide eyes. "Was he crushed?!" Pettigrew said, trembling.
"What are we going to do?!" Sirius asked James.
"We're not going to do anything!! Let's go back to the castle and pretend nothing happened!" James immediately said, not wanting to be responsible for anything that happened, as he and Black started to move, but Pettigrew soon noticed something happening in front of him.
"The willow is behaving strangely!!" He pointed to the spot, while the Whomping Willow itself seemed to be trying to pull the entire tree upwards, but somehow it couldn't.
James, Sirius, and Peter looked at it stunned, as the willow seemed to be trying to straighten its trunk. Meanwhile, beneath it, Snape was simply standing in the spot he had been hit but not lying on the ground as the Marauders had imagined. On the contrary, he was standing while his left hand protected him from the tree when it attacked.
Snape easily caught and held it while the tree now tried to escape his grip, but he held it firmly. "You have quite a strong hit... tree, but if that's all you can do, I'm disappointed..." he taunted while the tree didn't seem to appreciate his words.
He then finally let it go, making the tree rise back to its initial position. The willow seemed to want to continue attacking Snape, but he was already near the entrance due to the tree waiting for him to get close enough so he couldn't escape.
"But you know..." Snape commented as he was entering, "You seem like a good sparring partner. Maybe I'll visit you in the mornings..." Snape said and entered.
As the Gryffindor students continued to spy on him, not understanding what had just happened—after all, they could only see Snape being hit but coming out unscathed—Snape also noticed them but didn't care, as this was already expected. He entered the place, descending a staircase and finally reaching a door with a padlock around it, appearing quite reinforced. He could hear moans and animalistic growls from the other side.
"Let's not waste time." Snape said and opened the door with a spell. The door creaked open, and the sounds became louder as it did. Snape entered what seemed to be a small house with two rooms. There was a torn sofa and a dead deer in the middle of the place, probably left by Miss Penelope for Lupin to eat in his animal form.
He continued as he closed the door with his wand; after all, he didn't want Lupin to escape. Snape kept hearing Lupin's half-human, half-beast growl coming from somewhere nearby until he looked into the other room and waited.
Lupin finally emerged from one of the walls beside the entrance connecting that room, dragging himself in agony and knocking everything over. He looked more like a dog walking on two legs than a true werewolf.
"You really look ugly, Lupin... but it seems your transformation isn't complete..." Snape taunted while continuing to watch Lupin in a hairless form, banging against the wall.
He seemed to hear what Snape said and quickly growled at him in anger, while Snape only looked at him with interest.
The two-legged, mostly hairless dog with pink skin finally began to change, writhing and growling more. His body started to grow. Snape put his wand away and calmly watched.
Lupin's transformation began as his body finally started to cover with fur, and his bones grew, increasing in size. Lupin went from a normal teenager to 2.5 meters in height as he completed his transformation.
"You really got bigger and taller, but you're still so skinny... I don't understand why people are so afraid of you..." Snape mocked as the werewolf in front of him finally stopped writhing and breathed calmly. His feet turned, and he looked at the one who was taunting him.
Roooaaarrr!! The werewolf roared as he stared at him, then didn't wait any longer before launching a beastly attack at the human while his mind was uncontrolled.
The werewolf lunged forward, but in the next moment, he simply flew back into the room with force, slamming against the wall like an out-of-control puppet, cracking it.
"As I said, very skinny." Snape commented, seeing the werewolf start to get up again.
He saw the beast attack him with its sharp claws again, while Snape moved his body for the first attack, dodging it. The beast attacked like an irrational creature, missing another blow and falling to the ground.
Snape took a few steps back and waited for the werewolf to get up again with a certain disappointment. He saw the creature leap at him, but without moving, the claws stopped a few centimeters from his face while he kept a calm look, holding the werewolf's arms with his hands.
He continued to taunt Lupin with his gaze while the werewolf tried to escape his grip. He saw the creature give up pulling and advance with its canines toward Snape, but was met with Snape kicking its belly, making it fly into the wall once again.
The creature tried to attack again, jumping off the middle of the wall before advancing toward him, and while Snape grabbed it with one hand, he spun it before slamming it into the wall again.
"I expected more from a werewolf..." Snape commented, seeing Lupin once again on the ground, getting up again to attack him. He didn't seem to give up at any moment, no matter how much he was beaten.
And this was just the beginning. Time passed while James waited with his friends, holding a magical camera from that era to take some pictures of Snape outside, but there had been no sign of Snape for the last 30 minutes since he entered.
"Could he be dead?" Black asked, looking at his friends.
"I don't know. But we better check..." James said, as they couldn't hear anything from there, since the sound was muffled by a barrier near the door.
James used a spell on the Whomping Willow to prevent it from attacking them as they entered the place, descended the stairs, and approached the door, finally able to hear something.
But what they heard was something flying from one side to the other, before crashing into the wall. Growls followed, and once again, it seemed like someone was getting beaten, with a groan of pain hitting another wall or destroying furniture.
The three looked at each other at that moment, realizing what was happening there. "Lupin!!!" They exclaimed, knowing that somehow Lupin was getting beaten behind that door, and they immediately began to move to open it.
"It won't open!!" James shouted as he tried to pull it, worried about his friend.
"He used some spell, it's not even locked!!" Black exclaimed, helping Potter pull while Peter Pettigrew pulled James by the waist, having no space to hold the door as well.
They tried for a while as the door wouldn't budge and the sounds of Lupin still being beaten could be heard, until finally, the door unlocked, causing them to fall to the ground and the sounds of fighting stopping on the other side as the door opened a small crack.
"Lupin!" Potter saw this and quickly got up, opening the door. As it opened, he saw the scene of the place completely destroyed, with the only furniture there in ruins and the walls cracked.
In front of him, as all three looked on, Lupin stood there, still on his feet but bleeding all over his head, with one of his arms hanging, probably broken, and growling towards them. This made the three freeze in the next moment, and they had no time before the wounded werewolf leapt with his only good hand towards them.
But then someone who had been beside the door the whole time, unnoticed by the three fools, stopped the werewolf's clawed attack with his hand, holding the beast once again.
The three remained paralyzed as Snape lifted his foot and delivered a kick to the beast's chest, causing it to roll across the room. Potter finally blinked and looked at Snape beside him with fury.
"What do you think you're doing to Lupin, Snape!!" he shouted, starting to point his wand at Snape, but Snape looked at him like an idiot and slapped Potter's face, stunning him in the next moment.
The werewolf once again got up and began to run towards them. Snape sighed and moved his arm back as the creature leaped, ready to deliver his final blow.
As it got close, Snape delivered a punch stronger than before, causing the creature's face to cave in with the impact, and it flew like a bullet into the wall, creating a hole in it.
Snape looked satisfied but had to quickly move his body, dodging the first spell, while making his wand appear and creating a shield to defend against the other two attacks. All three Marauders had their wands pointed at him, looking stunned and even a bit scared after what they had seen. Snape didn't care and cast a spell at the three, unable to react, as they were thrown backward, flying through the door they had opened.
"Well... your games are becoming very dangerous after tonight. It's time to teach you three a lesson once and for all." Snape said as he stepped through the door and closed it, leaving a Lupin fallen unconscious with various injuries behind. After all, this would be an unforgettable night for all four Marauders.
