Chapter 46 – Finishing the second week.
[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
After the announcement of the duels, Professor Longbottom continued explaining how her class would be, with more practical studies and preparations for real combat, which Snape didn't find bad at all.
After the class ended, he had part of the afternoon free and decided to go to the secret room where Dobe had shown him, arriving there unnoticed, although the Marauders had followed him with their eyes a few corridors back but did not act against him.
He put away his things and began to train with some training dummies that were in the room, wanting to combine his old fighting style with magic, using both his body and magic in tandem.
It was a monotonous type of training... Being alone there, but for the current Snape, necessary. "Repetition leads to perfection..." He murmured and continued training.
After hours of training, he went to have lunch in the kitchen, since he had to fetch the Graphorn and took it to his room afterward. "I think I'll call you Atlas," Snape murmured, finally deciding to name the animal.
The next day he had Charms class and again Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Starting his day with Professor Filius Flitwick in Charms class and finally returning to Professor Longbottom's class again, with her class being on Wednesday and Thursday.
"I hope you think a lot about what we learned today..." she said at the end as everyone left the class.
Snape had to admit that her lesson plan was not bad, and he hoped to learn new spells. The practical classes would begin next week with the duels.
Snape noticed that despite the looks from the Marauders, some members of his house, Lucinda, or even Lily, who still had eyes on him, he no longer had the full attention of the previous week, which was good for him, liking to remain more discreet like the old Snape.
He had the afternoon free and went to the forbidden area to study along with the Muggle books, where he kept doing calculations with his theories, trying to improve the experiences of the actions the wizards he read about performed. Spatial magic was so rare in the history of magic that the only successful thing was the creation of some spells used by a few wizards who died and whose knowledge remained only in records. The only thing that became popular and was passed down through the centuries were Apparition, storage magic, and travel with Floo Powder. But Snape was willing to delve into this area and even some other unknown magics.
He continued this, placing his notes in his notebook as usual, while feeling a ghost approaching from there, one he knew very well.
Peeves was finally returning to normal after more than a week since his near-death moment, when he was passing through the walls and ended up entering the forbidden section, going to the library to bother some student with his pranks. But what he did not expect was to come across the person he feared most in this school, even surpassing the Headmaster himself. Snape looked at him as soon as he appeared, and Peeves froze in place upon seeing him too.
"..." Snape said nothing, just stared at him.
"Y-You!!" Peeves reacted the next moment, fleeing from there screaming, drawing the attention of all the students in the library as he passed over them, even making the librarian Madam Pince get up to see what was happening.
"Did you do something to him, Mr. Snape?" She approached Snape in the forbidden area.
"..." Snape just looked at her and shrugged, not wanting to respond to her with something so idiotic; he had more important things.
"..." The woman seemed extremely frustrated with Snape's behavior and left there, stomping heavily on the floor as she went.
After that, Snape went back to studying a bit until the night began to take over the day, going to his current training room and going to train his magic on the training dummies as the day before.
After that, he went to the common room, eating in silence, leaving Atlas in the kitchen with the house-elves today. After all, he didn't want to go back there every day.
When Friday finally arrived, his first class was with Professor Slughorn.
"Snape, stay after class, we need to talk," he requested, and Snape nodded, waiting to finally hear the response about the hair growth potions he had created almost a week ago.
The class went on as usual, with Snape making a potion he already knew for the professor while the rest of the students were making potions from the first week.
As people began to leave, Snape waited for the professor to approach him.
"Mr. Snape, I received responses from some of my friends. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from most of them, and only one accepted your offer," he began, and Snape nodded, knowing he should expect something like this.
"A contact in a more rural area of the country, a man who was having some trouble in his cold marriage, seemed desperate to try to win his wife over again. He accepted after I said I trusted your abilities," he said with a smile before continuing.
"He took the potion as soon as I sent it, and it really worked. He wrote how happy he was and how surprised his wife seemed because when they were young, she really liked his old hair..." Professor Slughorn commented with some pride. "I'm quite pleased that you created such a potion before anyone else on the market. I'm sure this will draw attention soon, and you'll be able to sell the whole batch," he said, and Snape nodded with a small smile.
"I hope so, Professor. I know it will start slowly, but soon I'll gain some fame," Snape said, satisfied. He had just made a thousand Galleon gold purchase, which would greatly facilitate his future and current projects. After all, a thousand coins was such a large amount that Snape had never had the opportunity to have before, and he did it with just one potion and a contact from his professor.
"Here's the money... I'd like to hear more about your thoughts on new potions. If you continue like this, I'll take you to do a recommendation test for Potions Master at the Ministry of Magic," he said, and Snape nodded.
"That sounds good. I'll inform you as soon as we have some time. Now I'll go to Herbology class," Snape said, and his professor nodded as he left.
Becoming a Potions Master would be a great advantage for him, as it would grant him access to many rare and forbidden resources to the general public, which were taken from other parts of the world or very rare in England. But this could have a downside, as it would draw attention to him while he knew he couldn't handle all the forces that could come after him. He could handle one or two noble families, but not everyone targeting him.
He intended to become more powerful, so he would wait a year to become a master and raise some money with a secret identity in the potion market, even if he lost some money selling it below market or buying more expensive ingredients.
Setting aside these thoughts, Snape continued on his way to the greenhouse for Herbology class. Everything went as usual while he worked with plants and ingredients alongside Lucinda.
With the afternoon free, he returned to the owl tower, ordering some items with some money he had earned. He needed an owl and even to buy a broom that he didn't have. But he ordered some ingredients and new Muggle books on famous philosophers and physicists.
'The study model Snape had in his childhood is extremely precarious, and it limited him a lot, so I need to learn other methods from this world, it might help me...' he thought as he returned to the castle, training a bit more in his secret room before returning to the kitchen to fetch Atlas, who looked like a piglet from eating so much of what the house-elves gave him.
He returned to his room after eating something, leaving the Graphorn to sleep in the corner and reflecting on the past few days.
"You'll have to stop eating so much... Do you want to die from this excess?" Snape couldn't help but comment to the magical animal that couldn't even get up while lying there in the corner.
"Hoo," Atlas couldn't even lift his head to respond to Snape, emitting a sound that seemed to be denying what he heard.
"..." Snape said nothing and ended up looking at the ceiling. This week, no one had attacked him, which was good. At least he wouldn't have to deal with idiots for a while. Not that they would try again, but they were much more cautious.
Tomorrow he would have the weekend, planning to spend it isolated while studying and finishing dissecting all the Acromantula bodies he had killed to complete another batch of potions.
Everything seemed ordinary until he heard a knocking sound at his door, making him raise an eyebrow. Many students passed through those corridors, but no one ever called him since the last time, which was Malfoy wanting to talk to him on the second day he had returned to the school.
He went to the door after getting up from the bed and opened it partially, seeing a blonde woman with green eyes staring at him.
"Greengrass?" He raised an eyebrow at the girl from his class who had talked to him last week, while she looked around the corridors to make sure no one saw her.
"Can I come in? I want to talk to you," she asked, and he thought for a few seconds before opening the door, wondering what she wanted with him on a Friday night.
She entered quickly, seeming not to want to be seen entering a room in the Slytherin boys' dormitory. She saw the room was quite organized with a cauldron in one of the rooms, but turned off. However, what caught her attention was the enormous animal lying in a corner like a dog with its belly bulging after eating so much.
"What is that thing?!" she asked in surprise.
"That's a Graphorn..." Snape replied with a shrug.
"Graphorn..." she murmured, not recognizing the animal. Most students wouldn't know, after all, magical animals weren't a widely discussed topic, and the vast majority of wizards didn't have any as pets to keep at home. However, Miss Greengrass knew what one was, making her eyes widen the next moment. Although it was small, it was obvious that this Graphorn was just a baby when its common size could reach 4 meters in height and 8 meters in length. "What is an animal like that doing here?!" she exclaimed, losing her usual composure.
"I found him by chance," Snape didn't care about that and got straight to the point. "Can you tell me why you're coming to my room at this hour?" he asked.
"Sorry about that, I've been looking for you all day after our last class, so since I couldn't find you, I thought you'd be in your room at this moment..." she admitted, and Snape waited for her to continue.
"I heard some rumors that you're entering the Forbidden Forest," she said, staring at him while Snape raised an eyebrow, wondering who was watching him that could pass information to the students... There were many factors he couldn't pinpoint who it would be. After all, he felt eyes on him while entering the Forbidden Forest the last time, and he knew it wasn't the Headmaster. He could also say that some students saw him leaving the eastern area of the Forbidden Forest while returning through Hogsmeade.
"And why are you interested in that?" he asked, not understanding how this would help her.
"I want your help. I'd like to know if you can accompany me to the Forbidden Forest tomorrow," she said, wanting Snape's assistance.
