chapter 26
Sailing on three ships I only took Damon with me to follow Barristan to Quarth because York was still recovering I asked my men to wait with him and find a navigator willing to sail to Skagos it will not be easy to do as even pirates of Essos are unwilling to sail to that see.
On the deck training my sword forms with Barristan instructing me, he gives me pointers after each day. I also exercise to get used to moving again after lying down for so long. The sailors give judgmental looks but don´t say anything.
I train with my helmet and gear on to make it even harder for me as the heat is killing me. At first, I could not even use half my stamina in the heat, hugging my axe like it´s a baby to my chest to feel a refreshing cold but eventually, the stares I got were a little too embarrassing so I had to soldier through.
Damon has also been training hard, being very motivated by his elevated status as a guard of royalty, and seeing me work so hard has also made him work even harder.
Barristan aka Whitbeard has taken an interest in his training and Damon soaks it in like a sponge taking every word out of his mouth like gospel even though Knights are not really a thing in the North Barrstan´s achievements have already become part of the mythos and is recognised as a great warrior.
The days go on just like this sailing for Quarth, a city said to contain Wizards and Warlocks and right now it is apparently hosting dragons.
One day we arrive at the port of Quarth the largest port that I´ve ever seen by far shaped like a horseshoe even our three massive shist arrive in the port like drops in a bucket.
But things seem to not be so peaceful in the city right now Barristan meets a man who was waiting for us at the port and he hurriedly informs us that the undying have invited the mother of dragons to the house of the undying.
“Lead us there” Barristsan Says and me and Damon follow him as I think undying? Is there such a thing? Too distracted to even notice the women walking around with one of their breasts exposed.
We reach a tall structure and see a crowd in front of the entrance we make our way through until we stand at the entrance guarded who block our way “Stay back what is your business here” I notice the man does not look like the people of Quarth or his companions who have bronze skin and long black hair tied down to their backs but he looks more like a Northman I curiously look at his appearance armor and clothes to see if I recognize anything.
Barristan steps forward “I am here to meet the mother of dragons I mean no harm”
But they still argue demanding to know who he is and as they argue I look at the entrance of the building and in shock realize it is an entire doorway made of wierwood carved in the shape of a face with a gaping mouth acting as the entrance.
As I inspect the structure getting a bad feeling at the exuberant use of wierwood as a decoration when I rarely see even such precious wood at most used for the creation of bows or handles. But this is something else entirely I almost get the sense of being watched.
Suddenly we hear the sound of an explosion from inside and the door is blown open I walk forward to see walls of red in the back of the corridor creating a cloud of smoke and the sound of eerie screams from the smoke I see a little girl come out running one of her breast exposed, out of the smoke towards me or rather towards the exit of the building and chasing after her is a horrendous looking old man pale skin like a vampire as he runs to stab her with a knife. Too far out to reach them I take out my axe keep my hands steady and throw it as a tomahawk at the man before he could reach her it embeds itself in his chest stopping him in his tracks he looks down at it in horror, I see the steel on the axe seems to shine a little as he screams his death song before crumbling into to dust.
Thinking about how she was running from him in a state of undress and of the creepy-looking creature who was chasing after her, he was definitely a sexual deviant type! I take the girl into my embrace to comfort her and let her know not all men are monsters “There there” I speak soothingly “That scary man is gone. Now he will never touch you or any other girl in those bad places again” I continue as she just looks up at me confused and now that I get a closer look at her face I see she looks more mature than I first thought when I saw her small stature
“Danearys” I hear as I turn to see the Northman looking at me venomously about to draw his sword. “Ser Jorah” I hear her respond ignoring him I decide to let go of the woman and get my axe back before the building collapses.
I decided to act like the fact that I coddled the mother of dragons like a little babe never happened. Instead, I pick up the axe that feels even colder now that it killed the ghoul-looking man.
The screams inside the building have stopped but the fire burns hotter I decide it's best to leave but search the remains of the man first. Now thinking straight this is the house of the undying so he might be a warlock shifting through his clothes I feel something and take out a thick ancient-looking book.
I store it and hurriedly walk back out to see Ser Barristan introducing himself as Arstan Whitebeard offering his service and to take Daenerys back to Pentos she turns to me and with an awkward look in her eyes, she says “I owe you my life Ser”
