The two options involved a matter of life and death and the future.

Although Obscurus possessed great power, it also carried great danger. If it left its host's body, the host would die instantly.

On the other hand, using different emotions to complete the fusion of mind and magic held too many uncertainties.

No one knew what the result of the fusion would be or what abilities it would have.

But Andy was certain of one thing:

Obscurus can be described as the fusion of mental energy and magic.

Mental energy and magic are part of life, so if Obscurus is separated from its host, it will cause the death of its host.

Waving his wand, Andy summoned the Fat Cat Patronus.

This Fat Cat is a successful example of the fusion of happy emotions and magic.

Andy planned to observe it carefully.

The Fat Cat Patronus floated before Andy, tilting its head and staring at Andy with curious eyes.

Andy was also looking at it.

The Fat Cat Patronus is a parasitic magical life form born from magic. It possesses some of the characteristics of a life form but is not a complete life form.

'Life, magic...'

Andy let out a breath, intending to start again by analysing from the most basic logical basis.

'Magic comes from life.'

'When mental power is combined with magic, it will give birth to a parasitic magical life form within the magic.'

'And judging from the nature of the Obscurus, it seems that this magical parasitic life form will continue to erode the life of its host.'

'So when the Obscurus detaches from its host, it will take the life of its host, causing death.'

The principle is clear.

Andy frowned and pondered.

'...no!'

'For any life form to maintain its vitality, it needs to undergo energy metabolism—that is, an exchange of energy between the organism and its environment.'

'Once this exchange stops, life ends.'

This is a characteristic that all life forms share.

Upon thinking about this, Andy looked at the fat cat patronus in front of him with curiosity.

What does this guy rely on for a living?

Magic!

Thanks to Andy's connection with the fat cat patronus, Andy quickly received feedback from the fat cat patronus—it feeds on magic, and happy emotions are the source of its power.

What about Obscurus?

Unlike the Fat Cat Patronus, who was born from a spell, Obscurus was born from magic, and magic comes from life.

Andy let out a cold breath.

If this theory was correct, then to maintain its own life, Obscurus would need to exchange energy with the life force of its host—Obscurus would need to absorb the life of its host to maintain its own existence.

'That's not right either!'

Grindelwald mentioned that the Magizoologist Scamander had once separated the Obscurus from its host.

'That Obscurus could exist independently!'

Andy exhaled with a sense of relief.

'There's another theory!'

'The Black family once experimented on the Obscurus. They believed that the reason the Obscurus left its host was because it couldn't adapt to stable magic.'

According to this theory, unstable magic may be the energy that sustains the Obscurus.

To be honest, Andy is not sure which theory is correct.

After all, the Obscurus has not been seen for decades.

Besides, Andy cannot possibly capture a child to experiment on.

That would be inhuman.

Andy cannot get past his own psychological barrier.

With his eyes slightly closed, Andy tried to recall the theories he had read about the Obscurus in his mind, trying to find a direct and convincing clue that could prove the reason why the Obscurus left its host.

Grindelwald once said that the Obscurial, Credence, had been 'killed' by the combined efforts of the witches and wizards of the Magical Congress of the United States of America and turned to ashes, but he had survived.

Furthermore, Credence's body was very weak due to the presence of the Obscurus.

'These facts seem to prove that the Obscurus consumes the life force of its host.'

'If the Obscurus is just unable to adapt to stable magic, Credence's body shouldn't be so weak.'

Andy continued his analysis.

'Is the reason for Credence's weak body caused by the Obscurus absorbing his life force? Or is it because the Obscurus is the power of dark magic, which has a certain adverse effect on him?'

Andy had a headache.

There was no doubt that the power of the Obscurus was very tempting.

But it was also very dangerous.

After all, there were too few people engaged in the study of the Obscurus for Andy to find an authoritative explanation.

The only two examples of the fusion of mind and magic that Andy had access to are Fat Cat Patronus and Peeves.

The former was born from the Patronus Charm, so it lives on Andy's magic. The latter was born in Hogwarts, so it can only exist by relying on the magic of the castle.

These two examples prove once again that magical beings born from the fusion of mind and magic only need magic to survive.

'It's too tricky!'

Without an authoritative explanation, Andy simply doesn't dare to try to fuse mind and magic.

But Andy can't bear to give up this power.

'In fact, Fat Cat Patronus, Peeves, and Obscurus that Scarmander separated—their existence all proves that they only need magic to survive.'

'The Black family's Obscurus experiment also proves this.'

'The only counterexample is Credence's weak body!'

Time slowly passed...

As if he had thought of something, Andy suddenly opened his eyes, his eyes glowing faintly in the darkness.

'Decided!'

'I'll give up the Obscurus and use other emotions to complete the fusion of mind and magic.'

In the moonlight, the liquid in the crystal vial shimmered with an evil scarlet magic glow.

Using the Apparition spell again, Andy arrived at the laboratory near Hogsmeade village.

Today is February 10th, the day of the new moon!
