Chapter 505: Chapter 505 Two choices, life and future!
Nurmengard Castle.
Grindelwald looked at Andy in the Two-way mirror with a strange look in his eyes.
He had to admit that although Andy's idea sounded a little whimsical, it was possible.
More importantly, judging from what Andy had already achieved, he could do it.
Magic may seem complicated, but some things become clear once you understand the underlying principles.
Take the Obscurus, for example.
For people who don't understand it, they find it mysterious and terrifying. Although it has great destructive power, it is a deadly condition.
But if you understand the relationship between the mind and magic, you will find that the principle behind the Obscurus is actually very simple.
It can even be described as obvious!
Is it possible for 'white magic' Obscurus to exist?
Of course, it is possible!
Because in theory, it is completely logical.
Of course, it is only logical in theory.
Because no one has ever done an experiment in this area.
Or rather, no one can experiment in this area.
Just getting the magic back to an unstable state is an unsolvable problem. Although the young wizard has unstable magic, he cannot perfectly control his own magic.
So these things can only remain theoretical.
As for Andy's guess, the reason why magical beings created by the fusion of mind and magic do not have powerful magical abilities is that they lack a soul as a source.
That's true, but not entirely!
"Boy, you're missing two points."
Grindelwald explained. "First, using different mental powers to trigger magic will result in different kinds of spells. And the reason why Obscurus is so powerful has a lot to do with the fact that the Obscurial hates their own magical abilities."
"Second, ghosts can't use magic! So...the reason why your Patronus can cast spells has nothing to do with its soul."
Andy thought about it carefully and found that what Grindelwald said made a lot of sense.
Just take an example!
To use the Shield Charm, in addition to specific incantations and gestures, you also need a strong desire to protect yourself.
The same goes for the Killing Curse, which requires a strong desire to kill the opponent in addition to the incantations and gestures.
Different mental powers will give rise to different kinds of spells.
The reason why Obscurus is Obscurus lies in the fact that, apart from the two necessary conditions 'outbreak' and 'suppression', 'disgust for one's own magic' is also a crucial factor.
Andy's point is theoretically valid.
But a magical creature created with other emotions cannot be called an 'Obscurus'—what's more, it may not even possess powerful magical abilities.
"I was thinking too much!" Andy sighed.
Shortcuts really aren't that easy to take.
"It all depends on what you want."
Grindelwald continued. "Powerful magical powers? Or a fusion of mind and magic?"
Andy rubbed his temples.
Children make choices; adults want it all.
Well, that was just an empty expression.
Want it all?
That was easier said than done.
Obscurus posed danger.
But a fusion of mind and magic might not necessarily lead to powerful magical powers.
Andy suddenly asked, "Mr. Grindelwald, if the choice were yours, what would you choose?"
"Me?"
Grindelwald smiled faintly and said, "I would of course choose the greater power."
Andy: "…"
Bullshit!
You'd risk your life for power?
Andy doesn't think Grindelwald would do that. "Really? But I'm different. I'm more afraid of death, so I'd rather go for the latter." Andy spreads his hands out in a helpless gesture.
Grindelwald doesn't seem to be bothered by this. "You can try it out."
Andy: "…"
Fuck!
Grindelwald makes it sound so easy, but Andy is the one who is gambling with his life.
Moreover, Andy has discovered it.
By choosing to be an Obscurial, he is gambling with his life.
But if he uses other emotions to complete the fusion of mind and magic, he is gambling with his future. After all, there are successful case studies on Obscurus, but if other emotions are used...
Peeves is a useless ghost!
However, Andy cannot blame Grindelwald either.
Although there is a suspicion that this old man is enjoying the show, Grindelwald has only observed Obscurus but has not conducted experiments in this area.
So Grindelwald could only give Andy a little advice.
In the end, the real choice is still in Andy's hands.
"Let's forget it!"
After weighing his options for a while, Andy could only sigh helplessly, "Let's just finish the magic transfiguration first! As for the Obscurus...we can talk about it later."
Grindelwald looked at Andy; his tone seemed to be a little more serious than before: "In fact, you can try... using other emotions to complete the fusion of mind and magic."
"Oh?" Andy's eyebrows rose slightly.
Grindelwald continued, "You should have heard of the name Newt Scamander, right? He once separated an Obscurus from its host body."
"You've seen it?" Andy immediately became interested.
This old man really is knowledgeable.
"Yes! At the Magical Congress of the United States of America."
Grindelwald said, "He used a special method to preserve the Obscurus. However, an Obscurus that has been separated from its host no longer possesses powerful magical powers."
"Although Scamander viewed the Obscurus as a magical creature, its life form was incomplete."
"Once they are separated from their hosts, they lose their ability to grow and develop, and they cannot exchange energy with the outside world."
Andy raised an eyebrow and said, "Scamander described them as parasitic dark magic beings. You've left out a word."
Since they are parasitic beings, they must be different from full-fledged beings.
However, Andy already understood what Grindelwald was trying to say.
It was the same thing.
Different mental powers will lead to different kinds of spells.
If you use other emotions to create an 'Obscurus', you might be able to create a new magical parasitic existence. Although it might not have the destructive power of the Obscurus, it will definitely have other abilities.
And Grindelwald also revealed a piece of information.
The magical power of the Obscurus is related to the host. Once it is separated from the host, the Obscurus cannot even maintain the most basic form of life.
This is basically consistent with Andy's judgement of the Fat Cat Patronus.
"Okay! That's all I have to say. The choice is up to your own judgment."
Grindelwald said lightly, "I'm going to go to bed. If there's nothing else, kid, we'll talk again next time!"
"Good night, Mr Grindelwald," Andy said.
The link was disconnected!
Looking at the Two-way mirror in his hands, Andy's expression kept changing.
Tonight's exchange had given Andy an additional choice, one that left him uncertain about the future.
What should he choose?
