Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The First Day Comes To An End
The final lesson of the day was Magic Theory which is mainly only taught for the first few months to aid the muggle-born's in their spell casting. The teacher for this class was an older gentleman with grey hair of which he had little left and a wooden walking cane. As he entered the room, he swung his cane towards the chalkboard and animated the chalk to write on its own, "You will have to excuse me if my voice is a little quiet as I am very old. If you need me to repeat anything please speak up and make yourself known." The professor said as he hobbled to stand behind his desk.
"The main things you need to remember when casting spells are intent and will. You need strong intent to want the spell to happen for instance wanting to turn a match into a needle or even wanting to protect yourself from a harmful spell. But you also need to will it into happening." The professor said before moistening his mouth with the tea before him, " To help draw forth the will needed to mobilise your magic certain techniques are used; Visualisation, vocalisation and wand movements. Visualisation is in the form of imagining exactly what you want the spell to do, such as picturing the match slowly turning into a needle."
The lesson passed as he explained the 3 techniques to the class while taking tea breaks in between when he finished explaining the techniques he went on to explain that when we have mastered utilising our will we will be able to slowly remove the need to use the techniques so that we will rely on 1 or even not relying on any.
When the lesson finally came to an end the old man seemed to realise he never introduced himself, "Oh and before you all leave. My name is Professor Sharp if you have any questions please feel free to visit this old man. I will be in this classroom every Tuesday after classes." Leaving the classroom behind Daphne, Grace and I started to walk towards the great hall for dinner but along the way, Grace saw her brother and broke away from us promising to meet up for dinner.
POV Grace Potter:
I saw Harry leaving his class and decided to tease him about his supposed crush on Daphne so I quickly caught up to him. "Harry, How are you?" I asked with a small smirk on my face. "I am doing well, Mum's advice is working well and the lessons are proving to be easy. What about you?" He replied thinking the smile on my face was because I was enjoying my time here. "Oh, my lessons have been great so far but what has me smiling is that a certain bird has told me that my brother is growing up and has started noticing the fairer gender."
My statement caused Harry to miss the step that he was walking to and almost fall down the stairs. He luckily was holding the banister and managed to catch himself, "What are you talking about?" He questioned while a flabbergasted look appeared on his face. "Oh, you know, someone caught you smiling while looking at Daphne Greengrass. I know she is a very pretty girl but I must be the bearer of bad news and tell you that she would have no interest in you as she is already set to be married."
The look on his face turned incredulous as he processed what I was saying until he uttered, "I have no such crush. I was not smiling at her I was smiling at the fact that you made some friends." My smile grew wider at his denial since his face flushed red all the way to his ears, "Sure, sure. Whatever you say, brother. I am also sure the sour look you directed to her fiancé has nothing to do with jealousy then."
The sarcasm in my voice was easily detectable but he shut me down again by shouting "I do not have a crush and I am not jealous." He paused as he realised where he was before continuing in a much lower tone while red with embarrassment as a lot of people turned to look at him. "I just do not like Erik. His whole being just feels disgusting to me like my body is trying to push me away from him. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is Daphne's fiancé." My smile remained on my face as he tried to explain his dislike for Erik. "Whatever you say, brother. Just make sure you have a better excuse for when I tell Mom." I say before heading off to find my friends.
POV Quirrell:
I had skipped dinner tonight as I had to talk to my lord, "My lord I have searched everywhere but I have been unable to find any magical tracking or listening." I had just finished sweeping my office as well as the classroom I am using. "I am sure that something was watching us during the potter boy's lesson today. It was as if I was in the jaws of death about to be eaten. Are you sure that old man hasn't been in here?"
"I am certain that we would have noticed him if he entered when we were here and I have swept the rooms using the spell you taught me so it is impossible that there was any magic used." I felt a spike of anger as my lord spoke, "You must have missed something, I know what I felt and if I experience it again you will experience my wrath. Check again but this time do it right."
"Yes, my lord," I said before searching around the room for any magic that wasn't cast by me or my lord. I started with my office and bedroom before moving on to the classroom but I was still not able to detect anything, maybe I am using the spell wrong I will have to ask my lord to check my mind again. It has become harder to keep my thoughts together since I found him and he became my lord.
