Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The First Day Continues.
Sebastian continued doing his lap around the classroom, looking at everyone's progress and making small comments encouraging those he talked to. When he eventually reached my table and saw me reading a book on alchemy with Daphne, he asked, "Have you two already completed the task? If not, could you put your book away and pay attention?"
I said nothing but lifted the book away from the desk to show him that Daphne and I did indeed complete the task. While he checked our work over I went back to reading about the main principles of alchemy and how we can affect the objects we choose with it. "Congratulations to you two, you have managed to turn your matches into needles. 10 points for Slytherin. Why don't you try to incorporate a more intricate design."
The rest of the lesson ended with Sebastian praising Miss Granger for how she had managed to complete the transfiguration. We then started to head towards our next lesson, this time unlike at breakfast we had a prefect to lead us to the next class. They led us along the traditional route, avoiding any time-saving shortcuts while also pointing out any important rooms or interesting things along the way.
We reached the DADA classroom and found that we were being taught by Quirrell as the smell of garlic filled the classroom and even the hallway. As we entered the room, the noise of the door opening caused Quirrell to jump and hide behind his desk. It was not until Granger proved to him that we were students that he finally came out from behind it.
This time the lesson was even less useful than the last since all Quirrell did was stutter and flinch, at least I got to hear the insights into the subjects the other teachers gave. The lesson passed agonisingly slowly as Quirrell stuttered through the pages of the book he was reading, while occasionally looking towards the saviour boy who was trying to take notes.
I fell asleep at some point through the lesson and was kindly shaken awake by Daphne when the lesson finally ended. "Thank you for waking me Daph. What do you want for lunch?" I asked as we walked towards the great hall with Grace. Off to the side, Harry was standing waiting for his sister to arrive to talk about how she was fairing but once he saw that she was talking to Daphne and me, his face turned sour.
"I will enter in a moment, I will just have a few words with my brother to see how he is," Grace said as Daphne promised to save her a seat. "So what do you think Saviour Boy's sour face was about?" I ask as I fill my plate with bacon and open the alchemy book. "I would say that he doesn't like his sister being in Slytherin. Unless of course, you have done something to him or his family in the past," She replied with a smirk as she stole some of my bacon under the pretence of turning the page.
"No, the train was the first time I met the Potters so I haven't done anything to them at least to my knowledge and I am pretty sure his family is very inclusive so being in Slytherin shouldn't be the problem either," I say as I steal back the half-bitten bacon, "Maybe he is jealous that you are my fiancé. I mean you are so beautiful that maybe he fell in love with you at first sight."
She gave a soft chuckle and ran her hand along my face before stealing the bacon yet again from my lips before saying, "You know that I am your fiancé and will be until you finally make me Mrs Bodewig. I am sadly going to have to let him down as you are the only one for me." It was at this lovey-dovey display that Grace came back to as she sat beside Daphne. "If you two are going to kiss do it in your rooms, please," She said exasperatedly, seemingly worn out by her conversation with her brother or possibly with our lovey-dovey display.
"So how did it go? Is he fitting in well with the other first-year Gryffindors?" Daphne asked as Grace took a bit out of a piece of toast. "He's fine. He was worried that I was being bullied and asked if I had made any friends." She said before pausing to take another bit then continued, "I told him about you two as well as Malfoy trying to curry favour with me. He seemed to dislike Malfoy getting close but when I told him about you, Erik, he seemed to dislike you even more."
"It seems you were right then Daphne, It was me the sour look was directed towards but why? It couldn't be that he fell in love with you at first sight right?" I asked while hugging Daphne close, causing her to chuckle. Grace thought about it for a few moments while finishing off her toast before revealing, "He might have, he smiled when I mentioned that Daphne was my friend so maybe he does have a crush on you Daph."
Before we could continue the conversation about Harry's poor love choices the bell rang signalling the end of lunch. We quickly finished our lunches and headed towards the History of Magic classroom, where I was expecting Professor Binns but much to my surprise I spotted a younger blonde witch. "Welcome, please find your seats quickly and we shall get started." The witch said as she wrote page numbers on the chalkboard while waiting for the class to settle, "My name is Professor Williams and I shall be teaching you in History of Magic up to your OWLs."
Unlike the History of Magic lessons described in the book which only covered goblin rebellions and made the students fall asleep, this class was informative but not too boring. It still did not stop me from reading about alchemy instead as I had yet again already learned about the subject but it was a nice change of pace.
