Chapter 78: Dark red and sloshing blood
Jael explained to the others what happened when he first met Kaidos back in the test and how the guy wanted to force some kind of contract on him.

Kaidos came closer, and the spears followed him. "I should watch out for the other two. Meaning I should kill them right? Right?" He grinned.
He attacked, lighting fast, blood uncoiled, and slammed into the shield like a whip sword. Spider web cracks appeared on it, spreading fast but Litha quickly reinforced it. "Guys! You can attack from inside here, just leave the defense to me. I'll let you know if I can't hold it anymore."
But before they made a move the GUV team interfered.
Arin leaped and cut downwards; his sword ripped and sent a bolt of light that cut in arcs. Blood came out to parry the clash, causing a small shockwave.
The two looked at each other, Arin the knight and Kaidos with his blood sloshing behind him. The beast-man was hesitating; if the GUV heard of what happened here, then they would hunt him and those he worked for.
Nowhere in the Tower will be safe. Kaidos groaned, why did it have to be the GUV? They are a snotty bunch. Then he paused. There will only be a problem if the GUV learns about it.
What if they don't? If he killed everyone here then who's going to carry the news to them? He grinned. "A knight, eh? Your Codex made you a hero. Must be nice."
Then he raised his own Codex, his dagger glinted darkly, wet with blood. "Let's see how a hero and a villain play." Then he unleashed his aura.
Dark red, it smothered the air with oppressive power his blood lit up.
Arin took a step back without his command; his body simply reacted to the power rolling off the beastman. 'Is that an Iron rank' he thought because the power coming from Kaidos seems like several Iron ranks.
Even then he raised his sword. "I believe in the strength of my sword." Golden light bathed him, and behind him, his team also lit up with the same power. An area-wide buff from the strength of his belief.
The rest of the team arranged beside him and raised their weapons too. "Kaidos. Do you want to fight all of us? We will show mercy if you drop your weapon and surrender. But if you continue, know only death is for you."
Kaidos thought about it, his smirk and the light in his eyes gave him away that he was mocking them. "Hum... I'd rather kill you all and add your blood to my collection. Too bad that I won't get any life force but you'll do."
There's nothing more to say after that and the attacks began.
There's a sage from the GUV team, and he brought a pipe and began to play; the air trembled and surrounded his teammates– a spell that would provide constant healing.
With the buff from their leader, the fighters waited for the signal from Arin, and when he did, ice shards rained down on Kaidos with frigid sharpness.
Arin followed behind with his glowing sword and almost chopped Kaidos in two while the beastman was kept busy with the ice shards.
"You think you can keep me down with this?" Tentacles of blood smacked the ice away from the air while the blood covered his dagger and made it into a sword. He swung up and met Arin, the parry drove him back.
Arin continued to walk forward calmly; he gathered mana to his sword with each step he took, and his eyes narrowed dangerously. "You will pay for messing with me!" His sword came up and down with a cracking sound like burning dry wood.
A bolt of deadly golden arcs jumped out, cutting the air with a woosh; the attack ram into the blood tentacles and ate through them, shredding them. One cut down on Kaidos, and he dodged by a glance, and the floor exploded as the attack continued uninterrupted.
The next two arcs followed Kaidos like hunting dogs, but just before they made contact, blood covered him like a second skin, and he was surprised the attack had no effect.
Arin froze and frowned. "Impossible. My accused light technique wasn't able to harm you? How is that possible?!" The attack became more powerful the more someone ran from it, and it began to gather mana on its own once used.
It's a very powerful attack, and it costs a lot of mana to pull off, but right now, Arin didn't care about all of that. His eyes were locked on his target.
Kaidos chuckled; part of his blood was now liquid on the ground, having fallen from the main ones. "Oh, your attacks did have an effect, but I wasn't the one that was hit. Do you know what the blood around me was made of? What was contained inside?"
The blood began to bubble around him; it began to soak into his skin, turning it bright red. Some formed above the red skin-like armor made of hardened blood. Even his head wasn't left alone and it was covered.
He took a step forward, shining like a red gem-made golem. He spread his hands wide; when he spoke, it was distorted by the helmet on his head. "Lifeforce. All the blood you see around is made with the life force of Awakened, who broke their contract to me!"
"Now then," a long thin sword the color of fresh blood appeared in his hands. "Why don't you come here and see just how many life forces I have to spear before my own?"
Jael twitched. "Huhm... shouldn't we help? If we all fight together and....."
Cele interrupted him. "I've heard about Arin. He's a rising star of the GUV who they made a member of our set. I don't know just how powerful Kaidos is, but Arin isn't someone to sneeze at either!"
