Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Earth’s Starry Sky?
Nolan left the Knights of Favonius with slumped shoulders, looking a bit downcast. Mona, watching from behind, gave him a sympathetic look.
Captain Jean had given him a good scolding.
Actually, Nolan hadn't bought just one piece of candy. After Klee helped Mona, he gave all the candy he had to her as a thank-you.
Of course, this made Klee ecstatic—she even jumped and cheered excitedly.
Then, Captain Jean caught her. Yelling in the library is against the rules, so Klee was promptly punished with library cleaning duty.
The ever-spectating Nolan wasn't spared either; Captain Jean "gently" scolded him too.
Giving Klee so much candy—what if she ended up with cavities? Klee might not understand, but shouldn't he know better? Jean's lecture went on and on.
Captain Jean made good points.
Left with no retort, Nolan had no choice but to accept the scolding.
Before he left, Captain Jean mentioned she'd need his help with something as the Honorary Knight and asked him to come by again tomorrow.
Naturally, Nolan agreed, seeing it as another chance to earn some affection from Jean.
"Since you're planning to stay in Mondstadt, you'll need a place, right? Why not come stay at my place?" Nolan suggested to Mona with a smile.
Mona shot him a look of disdain.
"Who wouldn't see through your ulterior motives? No way. I need a spacious magical lab to properly continue my astrology research."
"Fine, I'll see if I can find one for you."
Although Nolan felt a bit disappointed by her refusal, he wasn't too let down.
Finding her a suitable place wasn't too hard; like in the original story, he'd just talk to the owner of the Goth Grand Hotel.
The owner had a property once rented by a mage for experiments, but after the mage left, he hadn't removed the magical seal, leaving the house locked up and empty.
Naturally, the house had been sitting idle and unrentable, which frustrated the owner since each day it sat empty meant wasted money.
In the game's storyline, Mona lifted the seal for the owner, who then rented it to her at a discounted rate as thanks.
Now, all Nolan needed to do was bring Mona to the owner and have her repeat what happened in the game.
Nolan explained his idea briefly to Mona.
After a moment's thought, she agreed.
She didn't seem particularly surprised that Nolan happened to know about such things.
After all, he lived in Mondstadt; it was only natural that he'd know some helpful local tidbits.
Together, they went to the Goth Grand Hotel, asked the receptionist to call the owner, and told him they were interested in renting his sealed-up house.
With someone finally interested in the place, the owner was more than happy to agree.
So, once the seal was lifted, he rented it to Mona for an incredibly low rate of just 50,000 Mora per month.
Of course, Nolan covered the payment for now since Mona didn't have the Mora.
Once she had a place to stay, Nolan helped Mona tidy up the space and stocked it with essentials, officially setting her up in Mondstadt.
"Whew, cleaning a place really wears you out!" Mona flopped onto the wooden sofa in the room, leaning her back against the cushions as she let out a long, tired sigh.
Nolan sat down beside her, then casually let himself fall back, resting his head on Mona's soft abdomen.
"Hey, you!" Mona's fair cheeks turned slightly pink as she pressed his face away with her hand, a bit annoyed. "Can't you just sit properly? Why do you have to lie on me like this? It's so embarrassing!"
"Come on, I did so much for you today. Consider this my little reward," Nolan said, letting his head slip down onto her lap.
Mona's push softened a bit. This guy really had done a lot for her—finding people, finding a place for her to stay, helping her settle in.
After a quick thought, she gave a soft "hmph," allowing him to stay there without further complaint.
"By the way, you mentioned discovering something significant about the starry sky in the 'Wonderland' earlier. What was it?" Nolan turned his head, his face resting against her thigh, his gaze drifting up toward her abdomen.
The snug bodysuit she wore outlined her tiny navel—a subtle, cute feature.
"Yes! I found that the starry sky there is completely different from Teyvat's!" Mona tilted her head back, looking up at the ceiling.
"Different?"
Nolan felt puzzled. Shouldn't it be different, though? After all, who could say for sure if the sky in that "Wonderland" was real?
While he mulled this over, he reached out and, through the fabric, lightly traced Mona's adorable navel with his finger. Soft and slightly sunken, it felt rather nice.
"Hey!" Mona swatted his hand away, then continued after a thought: "Most people don't know this, but Teyvat's night sky reflects people's 'Constellations/Fate'. However, I noticed that in that mysterious sky of your Wonderland, no one's Constellation is reflected at all!"
"I see. So, maybe that sky is just fake and doesn't mean anything?" Nolan didn't understand the significance of a sky without Constellations, but he voiced his guess anyway.
As he spoke, he placed his hand back on Mona's abdomen, gently stroking it.
"Hey, don't push your luck!" Mona, annoyed, knocked on his head with her knuckles and swatted his hand away again before continuing: "There's no such thing as a meaningless starry sky. I think the reason that sky doesn't reflect any Constellations is that it likely has nothing to do with Teyvat!"
Well, of course, it's unrelated to Teyvat—it's from the "Wonderland!" Nolan nodded, feeling somewhat indifferent.
Meanwhile, he gently brushed his cheek against her thigh, wrapped in soft tights, and reached his hand up to her back, tracing along her spine.
"You're such a...!" Mona gritted her teeth but finally sighed, deciding to let him be as she rephrased her thoughts:
"I mean, have you considered that the starry sky there might actually be... the sky of your world?"
Astrologers believe in a connection between people and the stars, or else how could one divine fates through them?
If the sky in that "Wonderland" wasn't from Teyvat, then it might actually be from Nolan's world, and not just some random, irrelevant sky.
"Hm? Earth's sky?"
Nolan's hand paused, landing softly on her hip. Her words surprised him.
He gave her soft, rounded hip a gentle squeeze and, somewhat uncertain, said, "If it really is Earth—meaning the starry sky from my former world—would that actually mean something?"
"It would! It would mean I can study another world's starry sky! Once I understand it, I could use astrology to pinpoint the location of your world!" Mona grabbed his wandering hand, giving a soft "hmph."
Nolan immediately sat up, eyes sparkling as he looked at Mona. "Really?!"
Returning to Earth was one of Nolan's goals, even if he didn't yet have the means for interstellar travel. Knowing Earth's location would be a huge step forward!
