Chapter 103: Life Grass Seeds

Chapter 103: Life Grass Seeds

Previously, weapon prices in the Northern Province were quite expensive but still manageable. For instance, even though a bronze armor was slightly pricey, it only cost about two or three gold coins.

Silver armor was similarly priced, costing around two or three hundred gold coins.

But in just a month’s time, everything changed.

Now, even the cheapest iron armor costs fifty silver coins, bronze armor exceeds ten gold coins, and the price of silver armor has soared to around five hundred gold coins for even the lowest grade.

To put this in perspective, a baron in the Northern Province typically earns between one thousand and two thousand gold coins annually.

A set of silver armor would consume nearly half of their yearly income.

For a baron with only one thousand gold coins a year, they could only afford two sets of silver armor or ten sets of bronze armor. Even the cheapest iron armor would only allow them to buy two thousand suits, and only the poorest quality ones at that.

What’s worse is that with the ongoing turmoil in the Northern Province, these prices are expected to continue rising.

The weapons and equipment they had obtained recently, if sold, would make everyone a small fortune.

In just one month, their harvest had already equaled, if not surpassed, the yearly—or even several years’—income from their lands.

Not to mention the merits they had accrued during this time.

Both Lord Jas and Lord Saatchi were very close to earning enough merits to be granted the title of baron.

It was expected that within a month, they would have gathered all the merits they needed.

With results like these, all the previous anxiety and tension had vanished, replaced by excitement and anticipation.

“Lord Thor, when are we setting out?” Baron Pape approached with a look of eagerness in his eyes as he gazed at Thor.

“Let’s rest for a day. Thirty-five miles ahead lies a kobold tribe of the second tier,” Thor said after a brief moment of thought.

“Understood!” Baron Pape nodded, fully trusting Thor's decision.

Over the past few days, Thor had led them from victory to victory, continuously reaping rewards, making him highly respected and trusted.

Thor’s orders were quickly disseminated.

The members of the Maine Alliance began to rest and recuperate.

The day passed swiftly.

The next morning, they set out again, targeting the kobold tribe ahead.

Thor’s clean-up strategy wasn’t like others, who aimlessly swept through territories. Doing so would not only increase the risk but also limit their gains.

Thor specifically chose orc tribes that weren’t too powerful but promised substantial rewards.

Like the heavily armed goblins they had encountered the previous day—their well-crafted gear was a substantial reward for Thor’s group.

This time, the chosen kobolds were of a similar nature.

The kobolds they were targeting belonged to a second- tier orc tribe. While they were somewhat stronger than the goblins, the difference wasn’t significant. The kobolds possessed a large number of ores and, more importantly, the rare seeds of the Life Grass.

Compared to the Life Fruit, Life Grass is one of the main ingredients in low-level life potions. Though its value doesn’t match that of the Life Fruit, a single Life Grass still holds considerable worth.

At the Loren City auction, ten bottles of low-level life potions can fetch between two to three thousand gold coins, with each bottle selling for two to three hundred gold coins.

While Life Grass isn’t as valuable as the potions, each one is still worth around ten gold coins.

The key issue is that with Life Grass seeds, the only missing ingredient would be “Nau,” a main material that’s plentiful in the western regions of the Northern Province.

Although Anna, having bonded with the Ice Sprite, no longer possessed much of the Forest Elf’s aura to accelerate plant growth, she was still capable of brewing life potions, a source of continuous income.

Thor had his sights set on this from the beginning.

The kobolds had been constantly on the move for the past few days, making it hard to catch up to them.

Now that they were finally within reach, Thor couldn’t resist any longer.

As the Maine Alliance moved toward the second-rank kobold tribe, a battle was raging in a pioneer territory.

A second-rank kobold tribe was attacking this pioneer lord's domain.

This was a barony.

Despite being a fair distance from the northern frontline, the baron had chosen not to abandon his land.

In the past, he had suffered numerous attacks but had barely managed to hold his ground.

However, yesterday, a second-tier kobold tribe launched an assault on his territory.

Compared to previous orc tribe attacks, the kobolds were far more powerful. Not only did they have five second-tier kobolds, but their numbers also exceeded three thousand. Over the past month, the baron’s forces had taken significant losses.

Faced with the kobold tribe, the situation had become precarious.

“Damn it!”

“Where did all these kobolds come from?!”

April Neon’s face was grim. Standing atop his castle, his face was smeared with dirt, and his silver armor was in tatters, but he couldn’t afford to care.

His eyes were fixed on the never-ending stream of kobolds below the castle.

“My lord, we can’t hold them off any longer!”

“There are too many kobolds!”

The captain of his knights spoke bitterly beside him.

“Damn it!”

April Neon cursed and rushed forward with his sword in hand.

But it was futile. Despite his strength surging and his life energy nearly depleted, the kobolds kept coming in waves.

More and more of them.

“Great Titan God, protect us!”

“Victory is ours!”

The kobold leader’s eyes glowed with a cold, green light as it looked toward the large castle. It envisioned seizing the humans’ women and consuming their flesh and blood to grow its tribe. With enough sacrifices, it would offer the grandest tribute to the Titan God.

Perhaps it, too, could one day become a beastman king like Behemoth.

The kobolds, driven by this fanaticism, charged at the castle.

But in the midst of the carnage, figures appeared in the forest behind the kobolds.

“Lord Thor?”

Five sets of eyes turned to Thor.

His eyes sparkled slightly.

“Let’s attack.”

“There’s plenty of wealth in the north. We don’t need to stoop to that.”

Thor spoke softly, understanding what his companions were thinking.

They had been waiting for this territory to fall, so they could not only plunder the kobolds’ wealth but also claim the baron’s lands.

Thor, however, had no intention of doing so.

As he said, there was plenty of wealth in the Northern Province, and there was no need for such actions.

Furthermore, with many lords already fleeing, the Northern Province was becoming increasingly deserted. If they continued, there would be hardly any lords left in the province, which was not in Thor’s best interest.

After all, it would be impossible for him to occupy the entire province in a short amount of time.

If human territory were abandoned, orcs and magical beasts would quickly move in, making future endeavors much harder.
