Douluo Continent: Beginning with Signing in with Yan Lingji

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Zhao Wuji’s Furious Outburst

"Dai Mubai, what do you think you're doing? Attacking your own classmates? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Zhao Wuji roared in anger.

Dai Mubai, only just realizing that Zhao Wuji had arrived, was startled.

"Zhao, Zhao Teacher?" Dai Mubai's face instantly darkened, and he trembled as he looked at Zhao Wuji. Among the teachers at Shrek Academy, it wasn't Flender that scared him the most, but Zhao Wuji. Flender was strict but generally approachable and reasonable, whereas Zhao Wuji had a violent temper that made him terrifying when enraged.

Having a fiery disposition was common among power-type spirit masters. Their martial souls influenced them, and it was rare to find someone calmly wielding a giant hammer while speaking softly.

"How is Zhu Zhuqing?" Zhao Wuji gave Dai Mubai a disappointed glance before hurrying over to check on Zhu Zhuqing. After ensuring that she was unharmed, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Don't worry, Teacher Zhao. Zhuqing will be fine. She just drank some sleeping drug and will need to rest for a while," Zhao Ming explained to Zhao Wuji.

Hearing this, Zhao Wuji's furious expression softened slightly.

"Zhao Ming, we owe you for this. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known something so serious was happening in the academy," Zhao Wuji nodded in approval, clearly satisfied with Zhao Ming.

Zhao Ming's talents and temperament were exactly what Shrek Academy needed, and having such a student was a blessing for them.

"It's nothing. As a student of Shrek Academy, this is just what we should do," Zhao Ming replied with a modest smile.

"Well said, well said," Zhao Wuji echoed, nodding in satisfaction.

Two students of Shrek Academy stood before him: one, kind-hearted, humble, and exceptionally talented; the other, a repeat offender who tried to take advantage of his female classmates.

The difference between the two was as vast as the heavens and the earth.

Zhao Wuji's gaze fell upon Dai Mubai, filled with disappointment. Once, they had placed their hopes on Dai Mubai, believing he could follow in the footsteps of Qin Ming, another Shrek Academy student, to bring prestige to the academy. Although they hadn't spoken much about it, the teachers had invested more effort into Dai Mubai than any other student, even more than Oscar.

But Dai Mubai had repeatedly let them down. Every time they saw him spending his days in the pleasure houses of Soto City instead of cultivating, they were pained. Dai Mubai was not like Ma Hongjun, who had no choice due to his martial soul's defects. Dai Mubai's behavior was simply a choice of self-indulgence.

Despite their disappointment, they hadn't given up on him, hoping he would find his way again. But now, he had gone too far—using such despicable means against a fellow student who had only just joined the academy. This wasn't just disappointing—it was infuriating.

Disappointment had turned into anger, which was now giving way to a cold indifference. Zhao Wuji had finally reached his limit.

"Dai Mubai, you've let me down completely," Zhao Wuji said in a cold, detached voice. There is no greater sorrow than a heart that has died.

"Teacher Zhao, I know I was wrong! But it was all because Zhao Ming pushed me too far! He's the reason I lost control! It's all Zhao Ming's fault..." Dai Mubai tried to explain, stammering in fear, but Zhao Wuji silenced him with a slap.

"Ah!" Dai Mubai cried out in pain as he was sent flying once again.

"Shut your mouth!" Zhao Wuji roared. He had been ready to listen to Dai Mubai's explanation, but what he got was an attempt to shift the blame onto Zhao Ming.

Even at this stage, Dai Mubai refused to take responsibility, instead slandering others.

Zhao Wuji knew better than to believe such nonsense. He had observed Zhao Ming closely over the past days.

Ever since Zhao Ming had arrived, Ning Rongrong's dedication to her training had been unmatched, with her barely missing a session. On the first day, when he didn't know her well, Zhao Ming had motivated her to push through her limits, even carrying her back afterward. This alone spoke volumes about Zhao Ming's character.

And if that wasn't enough, when Ma Hongjun's martial soul defect had flared up, Zhao Ming, who had barely known him, had selflessly revealed his own martial soul to help Ma Hongjun evolve. This proved beyond a doubt how noble Zhao Ming was.

Zhao Wuji admitted that he himself wouldn't have been so generous with his powers, especially toward someone he barely knew.

Everyone had their selfish desires, but Zhao Ming seemed to be the exception, completely selfless in his actions.

Of course, Zhao Ming had his vices—such as his fondness for beautiful women—but as the saying goes, "A gentleman appreciates beauty." Zhao Wuji saw nothing wrong with this. A man of Zhao Ming's talents was bound to attract women.

So when Dai Mubai tried to tarnish Zhao Ming's reputation, Zhao Wuji was not only angry but deeply disappointed in Dai Mubai. How had he become so unreasonable?

"Teacher Zhao, don't blame him too harshly. Perhaps my presence here has influenced him negatively," Zhao Ming said with a weary sigh, feigning helplessness.

Zhao Wuji's expression shifted; he could see the look of resignation in Zhao Ming's eyes.

Zhao Ming was the hope of Shrek Academy, the bright star they had all pinned their hopes on. Since learning of Zhao Ming's extraordinary talent and strength, the teachers, while outwardly calm, had privately discussed how much they hoped to see Shrek's name rise to fame through him. Only they knew how much they had invested emotionally in Zhao Ming.

But now, it seemed as though Zhao Ming was contemplating leaving the academy. And if Zhao Ming left, it seemed likely that Xiao Wu, the other twelve-year-old Spirit Elder, would follow him.

Zhao Wuji couldn't let that happen.

"Teacher Zhao, don't listen to him! He's just pretending to be good!" Dai Mubai shouted, struggling to stand.

But before he could finish his sentence, Zhao Wuji sent him flying again with a powerful palm strike from several meters away.

Seeing Dai Mubai's pitiful state, Zhao Wuji's anger boiled over. His only concern now was preventing Dai Mubai from saying anything else that might drive Zhao Ming away. If they lost both Zhao Ming and Xiao Wu, no amount of punishment for Dai Mubai would be enough to make up for it.

This disobedient student had not only drugged Zhu Zhuqing and attempted to harm Ning Rongrong, but now he was also trying to push their most talented students away?

Zhao Wuji had never been this furious.

Dai Mubai seemed intent on tearing Shrek Academy apart.

Shrek Academy had only just recruited four new students: Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, Zhao Ming, and Xiao Wu.

But it seemed Dai Mubai was bent on driving every single one of them away.

Shrek Academy had struggled for years to recruit even a handful of students. And now, Dai Mubai was about to chase away four of their best?

Even one of these students would be a painful loss. Losing all four was unthinkable.

Zhao Wuji had made up his mind: Dai Mubai needed to face the harshest punishment.

Expulsion.
