Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Rise Through a Hundred Battles
Wherever there are people, there is conflict.
With Zhao Ming's personality, it was inevitable that his heart wouldn't belong to just one, two, or three women—it would belong to many, many more.
In the struggle for Zhao Ming's favor, there would surely be competition.
This was unavoidable.
Of course, Zhao Ming wasn't aware of any of this.
After all, Zhao Ming wasn't a woman. Although he understood many things, most of his knowledge in this area came from watching dramas in his previous life.
Soon after Zhao Ming and the others lined up, Flender arrived.
His sharp eyes swept over the group, and he quickly noticed that someone was missing—Dai Mubai. Flender was very familiar with Dai Mubai, who was rarely absent. However, Flender didn't dwell on it and refocused his attention on the group.
"Yesterday, I explained some aspects of cultivation to you, and I trust you all gained valuable insights. I know you are all talented students, and your knowledge of cultivation is already substantial. However, standard training is not the way of Shrek Academy. We aim to cultivate true monsters, not geniuses who hide away in ivory towers."
"What is a monster? A monster is someone who possesses the greatest talent and the greatest combat strength."
"You all have talent. In terms of strength, you are among the most elite of your age group. But what you lack is practical experience and the mindset for battle. That is what I'm here to teach you."
Listening to Flender's speech, Zhao Ming already knew what was coming.
They were definitely going to the Soto City Great Spirit Arena for combat.
Although Zhao Ming wasn't particularly interested in combat, the trip to Soto City still held some appeal.
After all, Bi Ji and the others were in Soto City.
Having been away for a few days, he couldn't help but miss them—especially the tsundere Yaya. The last time they met, Yaya had just woken up, and he hadn't had a chance to properly talk to her before she left. Now was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with her.
With Yaya's prideful personality, if he didn't pay attention to her soon, she wouldn't say anything out loud, but she would definitely be upset.
Plus, this visit would give him a chance to check on the progress of the assignments he had given to Bi Ji and the others—the development of Tianyi Pavilion.
Tianyi Pavilion—that was the name Zhao Ming had decided for his clothing store. "Tianyi" meant clothing bestowed by the heavens, a name that carried a certain elegance. More importantly, it sounded expensive, aligning perfectly with Zhao Ming's intentions.
Zhao Ming's main product would be the bikini.
This was a design that had been thoroughly tested by countless men—no, by countless designers—on Earth.
Of course, Douluo Continent had its own local undergarments, but could they really compare to the allure of a bikini?
Zhao Ming was confident that such a product would have enough charm to tempt the women of Douluo Continent into buying it.
And not only would he make money, but he would also get to enjoy the sight.
Once Flender finished his speech, he led Zhao Ming and the others out of Shrek Academy.
After about two or three hours, they finally arrived at Soto City.
It was noon by then.
Despite the heat of midday, the streets of Soto City were bustling with activity. Vendors crowded the streets, and shops lined every corner, their vibrant displays overwhelming to the senses.
The group looked around, each with their own reactions.
Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong, naturally drawn to lively places, were full of curiosity as they took in their surroundings. Zhu Zhuqing, however, kept her head down, silent and lost in thought.
Flender led them to a massive building.
The towering structure stood nearly a hundred meters tall, immense and imposing. Faint lights flickered from within the building, illuminating the bold characters that spelled out "Soto Great Spirit Arena."
"Teacher, are we going to train here?" Ma Hongjun asked, his expression changing as he recognized the place. He was familiar with this arena, having been here before.
"That's right. This will be your training ground from now on," Flender replied. "Buildings like this only exist in major cities. Their scale is a symbol of a city's—or even a nation's—strength. These structures are called Great Spirit Arenas, and they are named after the city they reside in. The one before you is the Soto Great Spirit Arena."
"Spirit combat is simple. You fight against an opponent and do everything in your power to win."
"Your task is to earn a Silver Spirit Badge before graduation. As for Zhao Ming, his task is to earn a Purple-Gold Spirit Badge."
"A Purple-Gold Spirit Badge?" Ma Hongjun and Oscar both paled at the mention. They were well-versed in the rules of the Great Spirit Arena and knew exactly what that entailed.
Did Flender believe Zhao Ming was already that strong? Ma Hongjun and Oscar exchanged incredulous looks. However, they also knew that Flender wouldn't assign Zhao Ming such a task without reason.
If Flender had assigned it, it must mean that Zhao Ming was either already at that level or close to it.
"What's going on? Why are you two staring at each other like that?" Ning Rongrong asked, puzzled. She knew about the Great Spirit Arena—her father, Ning Fengzhi, had told her about it—but she wasn't familiar with its specific rules, especially regarding the Spirit Badges. As the precious daughter of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, she had never been sent to such a place, so it made sense that she wouldn't know.
Ma Hongjun, being the most knowledgeable about the arena, stepped up to explain:
"There are eight levels of Spirit Badges: Iron, Copper, Silver, Gold, Purple-Gold, Sapphire, Ruby, and Diamond."
"There are three types of matches in the Great Spirit Arena, and we'll be participating in sparring matches. These matches are divided by rank, or more specifically, by the number of spirit rings one has. To advance from Iron to Copper, you need 100 points. You gain one point for every victory, but if you lose, you also lose a point. If you win five matches in a row, every subsequent win will earn you ten points. If you win ten consecutive matches, every win after that will earn you a hundred points. Once you reach Copper, if your points drop below a hundred, you'll lose your Copper status. To advance from Copper to Silver, you need 1,000 points. In Copper matches, every win grants ten points, and every loss deducts ten. The bonus for win streaks is the same as with Iron."
"Hidden mission activated: Rise Through a Hundred Battles. Earn the highest honor in the Great Spirit Arena—the Diamond Spirit Badge."
"Mission reward: Premium Equipment Lottery Ticket."
