Looking below—through the clear wide glass panel—I observe the new members of the Guardians training with Robot quietly standing beside me.
They are training in a wide white area as big as a football field. The area is designed in such a way that there are obstacles, advanced guns, and a whole lot of dangerous equipment.
Dodging the rubber bullets spewing out from the gun located way up on the wall, she creates a clone, nods at Black Samson, connects her palms together, and the clone uses it as a platform to jump higher in the air.
The gun shifts to the clone and tries to shoot it but Samson swiftly hovers in its way—blocking the bullets—grabs her leg, and hurls her to the weapon. She flips and strikes it with a heavy flying kick that disables it.
Meanwhile, Eve and the rest are dealing with machine gun‐armed droids but their coordination is not something to write home about.
I guess more work needs to be done on them.
"Ruddy, let's go."
I turn around and walk to the elevator, Robot follows the next second.
"I'm done with the profiling, I'll send you the report shortly."
He reports calmly as we walk.
I told him to create a file or a profile regarding the new members, basically about their psychological state and their progress as a team.
A test of sorts, to make him a better Co-leader of the team since I can't be here babysitting them always. This is why people get subordinates.
"Don't send it, I already know more about them than even they know. Just summarize what you've discovered."
I wave my hand dismissively and he nods.
"Okay, then I'll start with Rex Splode. Ever since yesterday, he's changed or should I say changing. He still has his arrogance but it's subsided. His team working skills are still great and it has improved even, so there's nothing bad I've noticed...at least for now.
Dupli-Kate hasn't changed. She's still the most patient person I know and due to her outgoing personality, she's aiding in making the team close even if she doesn't realize it. She is taking this new experience very seriously and is eager to prove herself and improve."
He pauses as we enter the elevator. I tap the last lasy floor button and he continues as it ascends.
"Concerning Black Samson, I've noticed something different. Deep down, he sees himself as a bigger person since he was once part of the original team and this sometimes reflects in his mannerisms. Other than that, he has impeccable teamwork skills and a versatile skillset."
I nod as the elevator dings as it stops and slides open, revealing a spacious office. Both of us, leave the elevator and enter.
This is my office and lounge in the base. It's circular with a very high ceiling, and it's very furnished with screens along the walls, a minibar, and circular sofas ringed by a circular indent at the middle of the room.
At the end of the room is an inclined flight of stairs that end on a wide platform four meters above ground with a wide glass floor-to-ceiling window that gives a clear view of the mountainous region and the sky.
"Bulletproof and Shrinking Ray are normal and very sociable but it's evident from what we saw earlier that they don't have strong coordination, especially Bulletproof since because of his powers, he's used to working alone. With time and more training, this will be fixed."
He continues as we stop by the minibar.
"Monster Girl...has some special issues due to her condition but I'll personally take care of it.
Lastly, Atom Eve is perfect but given her history with Rex Splode and Dupli-Kate, she's been uncomfortable, and it's affecting her coordination. Knowing her stubbornness, I'm not sure she'll be able to bear it for long.
This is all I've gathered from the last two days."
He ends and shakes his head in refusal as I offer him a drink after pouring myself one.
He's done a great job. Leadership really suits this guy and from what I can see, training him to be like a particular 'Bat' from that particular universe will be very productive.
I down the glass gracefully, put it down, and nod in delight—savoring the sour taste of the bourbon—and then smile at him.
"You've done a great job, Ruddy, keep it up. Some people doubt your skills and your expertise but I believe in you and I'm glad you're by my side helping me."
I place my hand on his metal shoulders and say warmly, my tone heavy. Quiet, he nods, the light flashing on the suit's green eyes.
"Thank you, Virgil. I'll do my best. If that's all, I'd like to head back to the training ground."
He says appreciatively and suggests.
"Go, go, don't let me stop you. Inform the team that tomorrow is the debut."
I inform seriously. He nods one last time and leaves.
Now, then, I guess I'll go to Xyria.
Just as I'm about to open a portal, Seraph interrupts.
Virgil, Immortal just woke up and burst through the Pentagon, consumed with rage. Sensors indicate he's heading directly towards, Omni-man who is around the coast of Vegas. Judging by his speed, he will be there in three minutes.
Seraph informs, making my eyes widen in surprise. I thought it'll take another day before he woke, but it seems I've underestimated the workings of magic.
"Give me a live feed of Omni-man's location and connect me to Cecil."
He's already calling. I'm patching him through right now.
She says and projects the feed to the large screen as Cecil's voice sounds.
Prime, we've got a situation. Immortal is headi——
"I know, he's heading to Omni-man. Oh, he's confronting him now."
I cut Cecil off as from the feed, Immortal tackles Omni-man to the ground—cratering it—and then sends him into the air, into the clouds, while the news camera crew directs the camera to them.
Good, don't initiate contact right now. We want to see what will happen and my sources just told me that, Invincible is moving toward them at very high speeds.
He instructs as my feed switches to their altercation above the clouds. Immortal— wearing his suit with a metallic neckgear—is punching and yelling at him fiercely with red eyes, asking him why he killed the Guardians and him.
"Copy that, I'll wait for your signal."
I say and the call ends.
At long last, this shit is starting.
Smiling, I watch as Omni-man blocks another punch and punches him away with a vicious frown.
"You're supposed to be dead, no matter, I killed you once and I'll do it again."
Omni-man comments casually as he uses his hand to wipe his lips, hovering dangerously in the air.
Hearing this, Immortal bellows madly and rushes to him.
"I'd like to see you try!"
He sends a heavy hook but Omni-man dodges effortlessly and rams his fist through his stomach to appear at his back with a burst of blood.
Then, like sharp scissors, uses both of his hands to bisect him into two—sparing blood all over his face with Immortal's guts and intestines clearly showing.
Yikes...not gonna lie, the way he did it is so cool. But like did Immortal seriously think he'll win this fight? This guy is as dumb as a newly formed homunculus, sigh.
"Dad?"
Suddenly, Invincible comes to the scene and his face morphs into that of horror as he watches his blood father calmly hovering while the two parts of Immortal—who is dead again—falls.
Omni-man's rigid face softens as he turns to look at his son and slowly moves to him, his face now serene and non-threatening.
"Son, we have to talk. It's time you know the truth about me and your people."
