At the city gate, a large crowd had gathered, all eyes filled with shock and curiosity fixed on the yellow light-clad figure hovering in the air.
In the next moment, the yellow glow trembled slightly and began to retract, revealing an elderly figure dressed in luxurious yellow robes, his face aged and his hair white.
This was Ancestor Mie Yan, the royal family's most powerful fighter and one of the top ten experts of the Mu Lan Empire.
Seeing such a powerful figure appear, both passersby and the Mu Lan Empire soldiers alike looked on with reverence.
For the people of the Northwest Continent, a Dou Huang was a supreme existence, a warrior at the very top of the food chain, capable of battling armies of hundreds of thousands.
As Ancestor Mie Yan appeared, everyone's gaze shifted toward a young man nearby.
Recently, Mo Yu's name had spread throughout the Mu Lan Empire.
This young man, who dared to provoke the wrath of the Mu Lan Valley all on his own and even forced the royal family to intervene, had become a legend, though most had only heard of him. Now, they were eager to witness his strength in person.
They wondered: Was the buzz about him true? Could this young man, no more than twenty years old, truly have the strength to outwit Mu Lan Valley?
Ancestor Mie Yan stood quietly, his white beard swaying gently in the wind, but his mere presence exuded an aura that made onlookers' scalps tingle with fear. His strength was clearly far beyond that of an ordinary Dou Huang.
Mo Yu, his silver thunder-filled eyes flashing briefly, immediately realized that the old man had likely reached the pinnacle of a four-star Dou Huang, just one step away from becoming a five-star Dou Huang.
At the same time, Ancestor Mie Yan gazed curiously at the youth's silver eyes, which had become his defining feature. When the youth had looked at him earlier, Ancestor Mie Yan felt as if he had been seen through—an unsettling feeling, especially considering his status as a Dou Huang. No matter how extraordinary the youth's talent was, he was at best a Da Dou Shi.
For a Dou Huang to be scrutinized by a Da Dou Shi was laughable.
Shaking his head, Ancestor Mie Yan dismissed it. Perhaps the youth's silver eyes were some rare special constitution, but so what? In the face of absolute power, no constitution mattered.
Though the royal family now had to rely on the goodwill of the three elders of Mu Lan Valley to survive, and though Ancestor Mie Yan had no desire to provoke such a gifted young man, orders from Mu Lan Valley could not be ignored.
"You must be Mo Yu. It seems you really do plan to flee to the Jia Ma Empire, but with tens of thousands of troops here at the Mountain River Pass, and with me personally stationed, you won't escape." Ancestor Mie Yan's aged voice carried a sharp glint as he continued, "If you surrender quietly now and follow me to Mu Lan Valley, I might plead on your behalf before the three elders. Perhaps they will spare your life, considering your talent."
"You're Ancestor Mie Yan? No one can force me to surrender, not even you. And since when did the Mu Lan Empire's royal family become the dogs of Mu Lan Valley?" Mo Yu's gaze swept over the old man, his lips curling with disdain.
"You sharp-tongued brat, take him down!" Ancestor Mie Yan's face darkened as he barked out the order, clearly stung by Mo Yu's words.
At his command, hundreds of heavily armed elite soldiers poured out of the darkened city walls, surrounding Mo Yu. The sunlight gleamed off their sharp spears, casting a cold light.
"So, I have no choice but to break through by force," Mo Yu muttered softly, sighing before his silver eyes hardened. With a wave of his right hand, a terrifying crimson thunder flame appeared.
As the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder surged forth, a dozen spears thrust toward him.
Standing still, Mo Yu made no move to dodge. Just as the spears were about to pierce him, the crimson thunder in his hand exploded outward, enveloping him.
"Sss…"
The sharp blades, covered in Dou Qi, met the strange crimson thunder and, in the blink of an eye, melted into hot molten iron, to the shock of all onlookers.
The crimson thunder, having melted the spears, sparked and crackled like deadly serpents, spreading rapidly.
Hundreds of elite soldiers, standing too close to one another, had no time to react. The crimson thunder struck them, and in the next moment, the entire troop was reduced to black ash without so much as a scream.
"Hiss…"
At the sight of the soldiers' horrifying fate, gasps echoed around the city gate. All eyes were fixed on the youth who hadn't moved, fear of the terrifying crimson thunder gripping everyone.
"Is that… a Heavenly Flame? Or thunder?" Ancestor Mie Yan's aged face showed a rare hint of surprise as he muttered to himself.
"I've heard this kid snatched a Heavenly Flame from the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King. It seems that wasn't just a rumor—this boy surely carries a great secret," Ancestor Mie Yan whispered.
After Mo Yu's one strike took down a hundred men, the remaining soldiers were paralyzed with fear.
A hundred elite soldiers could hold their own against a Da Dou Shi, but in front of this youth, they hadn't lasted a single round. It was inconceivable.
With Mo Yu wielding such terrifying thunder, the entire scene grew eerily silent.
Although Mountain River Pass had an army of forty thousand, with the need to defend multiple gates, there were only a few thousand soldiers at each. With a single move, Mo Yu had eliminated one-tenth of the gate's fighting strength.
"Fall back, leave him to me," Ancestor Mie Yan said, descending from the sky. He waved the imperial soldiers away, his gaze fixed on the calm and composed Mo Yu.
"Yes, Your Highness!" the soldiers replied.
Ancestor Mie Yan, being the younger brother of the previous emperor, held the title of prince and commanded immense respect within the Mu Lan Empire.
After dismissing the soldiers, Ancestor Mie Yan turned to Mo Yu.
"Boy, no matter your background, you shouldn't have crossed Mu Lan Valley. Even if you're a disciple of the strongest sect in the Jia Ma Empire or the scion of a powerful clan, I won't let you leave here today." His voice grew cold as he stroked his white beard.
Seeing Ancestor Mie Yan's confidence, Mo Yu understood that he had stirred up enough trouble that the royal family couldn't risk letting him go, fearing they'd anger Mu Lan Valley.
Sighing helplessly, Mo Yu thought bitterly, She Lao, it seems I'll need your help. I'm no match for him—he's a four-star Dou Huang, and I can't handle that.
"Leave it to me. I'll take over for now," She Lao's voice responded, not refusing the request. He knew that while Mo Yu's talent was monstrous, his strength still had its limits.
With Mo Yu at the level of a five-star Da Dou Shi, challenging a Dou Huang was nothing short of suicide. And since Mo Yu had unknowingly become his hope for resurrection, She Lao wouldn't let him fall here.
"Ancestor Mie Yan, even one of the three Mu Lan Valley Elders, Elder Lion, couldn't stop me. You won't either!" Mo Yu said, a cold smile on his lips as he slowly closed his eyes.
Ancestor Mie Yan frowned at the boy's strange behavior, his face suddenly growing grave as he sensed a powerful aura surging from within the youth—a force no weaker than his own.
"How is this possible!?"
Feeling the rapidly rising energy and watching the boy levitate into the air, Ancestor Mie Yan's previously calm expression finally cracked with shock.
At the city gate, the white-haired elder stared up in disbelief at the boy floating above him, his face growing more serious. "Boy, what secret technique is this?" he barked.
His mind instinctively connected the youth's strange behavior to some kind of forbidden power-boosting method.
"This kid is too dangerous; I need to take him down quickly."
With renewed determination, Ancestor Mie Yan clenched his withered hands, pulling at the rocks beneath his feet, forming a massive, glowing yellow spear.
"Rock Spirit Spear!"
With the spear in hand, Ancestor Mie Yan's face hardened as he swung it. Countless sharp rock spikes gathered in the air, hurtling toward Mo Yu with a piercing wind.
High above in the sky, Mo Yu's eyes slowly opened. When he saw the sudden appearance of a massive rock spear hurtling toward him, his Purple Cloud Wings instantly spread wide.
With a powerful flap of his wings, his body dove downward like a majestic roc. Casually glancing at the rain of rock spikes coming his way, he opened his mouth slightly.
As his mouth opened, an invisible force erupted like a bolt of lightning from within him. The moment it collided with the oncoming barrage of spikes, a loud crack echoed, and the entire wave of rock transformed into yellow dust in midair—a spectacular sight.
"A...sonic attack?" The white-haired elder, who witnessed his spinning rock spikes being pulverized with no warning, was momentarily stunned before exclaiming in surprise.
Ignoring Ancestor Mie Yan's astonishment, Mo Yu's wings flared once more. He shot upward, appearing directly above Ancestor Mie Yan, grasping the Divine Thunder Black Spear tightly in his hand before thrusting it downward.
The swing of the spear was so fast that it seemed to tear the air itself apart, leaving a faint black trail in its wake...
Seeing this, Ancestor Mie Yan's face grew exceedingly serious.
He cautiously stepped back, tightening his grip. His rock spear, now brimming with a freezing and intense energy, shot out with ferocity.
Mo Yu, noticing Ancestor Mie Yan's choice to clash head-on, let a hint of ridicule flash across his eyes. His spear accelerated sharply, and with a resounding clash, it collided with Ancestor Mie Yan's rock spear.
The moment the two weapons met, a violent shockwave of energy rippled out from the impact point, spreading across the ground and leaving spiderweb-like cracks on the surface.
"Break!"
Almost immediately upon contact, Ancestor Mie Yan's rock spear bent like a bow under the immense pressure. With a cold shout from Mo Yu, a sharp crack followed as the rock spear shattered into countless fragments, spraying dirt everywhere.
In just one exchange, Ancestor Mie Yan's weapon was effortlessly destroyed by Mo Yu, causing his face to twist in frustration.
He hadn't expected that this young man before him, in just a few short minutes, seemed to have transformed into a completely different person. The disparity in power between Mo Yu before and now was simply incomparable!
No wonder the Mulan Valley warriors had failed to subdue him—he possessed such extraordinary methods!
If Mo Yu had been at the level of a Da Dou Shi earlier, now he had likely ascended to at least the Dou Huang level!
This terrifying leap in power left Ancestor Mie Yan deeply shocked and fearful.
"What on earth did this brat do?" A thought flashed quickly in Ancestor Mie Yan's mind as he kicked off the ground, retreating rapidly.
While retreating, his hands moved in a blur. As his palms danced, numerous rock swords formed swiftly in the air.
"Destruction Rock Swords!"
With his hands forming seals rapidly, his Dou Qi surged within him. The surrounding space gathered energy of the same attribute as Ancestor Mie Yan's Dou Qi, drawn from the environment.
In the blink of an eye, several massive rock swords, each several meters thick, materialized above Ancestor Mie Yan's head.
"Kid, I refuse to believe I'll lose to you today!" Gritting his teeth, Ancestor Mie Yan stomped the ground fiercely. The dozen or so rock swords above him spun rapidly in the air.
"Destruction Rock Spiral!"
Ancestor Mie Yan's hands blurred as he formed seals in front of him. His throat emitted a low growl, and the rock swords arranged themselves into a formation.
The swords connected to one another, forming a massive spiral storm made entirely of rock swords.
"Go!"
From within the storm came a low shout. The rock sword vortex surged toward Mo Yu, tearing through the sky. Along the way, pedestrians and soldiers from the empire fled in panic. Even the fortress's sturdy walls seemed to tremble under the immense pressure, on the verge of collapse.
Mo Yu's expression remained calm. His hands quickly formed seals, and in the next moment, purple-gold light burst from his body. As the light intensified, an eerie and terrifying aura erupted from the young man.
The purple-gold light grew brighter and brighter until it reached a peak. Then, it began to shrink rapidly, eventually condensing into a small orb, no larger than a fist.
Though small in size, the orb was infused with a chilling and sinister bloodline power.
Once the purple-gold orb formed, Mo Yu stomped the ground hard. With an explosive sound, his body shot out like an arrow released from a bow, racing straight toward the incoming rock sword storm.
"You're courting death! Don't blame me for this!"
Seeing Mo Yu's reckless charge, Ancestor Mie Yan inside the storm sneered and shouted in fury.
Ignoring Ancestor Mie Yan's roar, Mo Yu charged headlong into the storm. His hand, now completely engulfed in the purple-gold orb, thrust forward. His eyes, cold and emotionless like a serpent's, locked on his target as his hand plunged directly into the heart of the vortex.
The moment Mo Yu's hand entered the storm, a terrifying wave of energy rippled outward, causing the ground near the city gate to rise nearly two or three meters!
Crack…
Mo Yu held his stance with his hand deep inside the vortex. After a brief pause, the once furious and spinning rock sword vortex began to break apart!
Boom!
With a muffled explosion, the rock swords shattered, scattering into countless yellow fragments that rained down from the sky.
As the rock swords disintegrated, they revealed Ancestor Mie Yan within—his face still frozen in disbelief...
