Three days later, outside Black Beast City, a figure in a long, purple robe walked out from a secluded forest area. After glancing at the occasional passersby on the main road, he identified his direction and then set off toward the western side of the road.

The purple-robed person's movements were not particularly fast, but a keen observer would notice that each step he took seemed to cover over a meter of distance, almost as if he was performing short-range spatial shifts. The effect was peculiar and fascinating.

This purple-robed figure emerging from the forest was none other than Mo Yu, who had been resting in Black Beast City for three days.

In those three leisurely days, he had not only fully recovered from the fatigue of his two-month retreat but had also gathered some useful information from the conversations of many travelers.

"This road leads straight out of the border to the Jia Ma Empire. However, along the way, there's a military stronghold. It's said that this stronghold houses forty thousand troops, and from what I've heard from merchants in Black Beast City, there's even a revered elder of the royal family stationed there.

"Ancestor Mie Yan—his strength is at the level of a Four-Star Dou Huang, the only Dou Huang powerhouse of the royal family and one of the top ten experts of the Mu Lan Empire. He is also the backbone that keeps the royal family in power over the Mu Lan Empire.

"I didn't expect the Mu Lan Empire to be so imposing that it would command its royal experts to take action," Mo Yu mused, his steps light and deliberate as he continued to shift almost like he was warping through space along the road.

With the growth of his Flash Void Breaking Thunder to its growth stage and the significant strengthening of his physical body, Mo Yu could now use the power of the thunder to move freely within a three-meter radius.

Though the range was just three meters, it was still a substantial improvement for him.

"Now, I am nearly a fugitive in the Mu Lan Empire. And since I've been moving westward, the Mu Lan Valley must have guessed that I intend to flee to the Jia Ma Empire. Therefore, they would naturally reinforce the last border checkpoint heavily.

"Ancestor Mie Yan—escaping from that place won't be easy," Mo Yu thought as he frowned slightly, his face hidden beneath shadows.

"That kind of border stronghold is as massive as a mountain, with countless archers and crossbowmen trained to perfection, not to mention the special sensory energy barrier. It's specifically designed to defend against anyone trying to escape through the air," Mo Yu pondered, recalling the rumors he had heard about the Mountain River Pass.

In most countries of the Northwest Empire, there is a military rule: no one is allowed to fly over important border strongholds. If detected, they would face devastating attacks from the military below.

Given the volatile relations among the empires of the Northwest Continent, the nations had to be extremely vigilant against potential aerial incursions that could compromise their border defenses.

"Well, I'll have to take it one step at a time. If worse comes to worst, I'll need She Lao's help to force our way through," he muttered, shaking off his thoughts and focusing on the journey ahead.

Though the distance from Black Beast City to the Mu Lan Empire's border was considerable, it was still manageable for Mo Yu. While it would take an ordinary person ten days or more to traverse the few hundred kilometers, Mo Yu covered the distance in three days, even using his Purple Cloud Wings to fly secretly for part of the way.

As he reached the border, Mo Yu remained tense. He knew that the real challenge lay ahead.

To leave the Mu Lan Empire and enter the Jia Ma Empire, he had to pass through the formidable stronghold known as the 'Mountain River Pass.'

As a military fortress that guarded against foreign powers, its defenses were nearly impenetrable, with a garrison of forty thousand elite soldiers.

What made it even more daunting was the presence of a Four-Star Dou Huang guarding the pass.

This stronghold was the last line of defense stopping Mo Yu from reaching the Jia Ma Empire.

"Sigh, I remember when I first entered the Mu Lan Empire, everything went smoothly. But now, leaving has become a game of cat and mouse with the Mu Lan Valley, as if I'm some hunted prey. This grudge, I will remember," Mo Yu murmured.

Previously, he had taken advantage of the Mu Lan Valley and the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King to gain the Ten Thousand Beast Flame, orchestrating a confrontation between them and reaping the rewards.

Afterward, when Mu Lan Valley sought relentless vengeance, Mo Yu decided he wouldn't show mercy in the future.

The next day, Mo Yu finally caught sight of the massive fortress looming on the border of the empire.

Standing on a hill, Mo Yu observed the vast walls that stretched endlessly and listened to the faint, synchronized training sounds of soldiers. He took a deep breath.

In the world of Dou Qi, strength ruled, and a Dou Huang expert could rival entire armies. Yet, the sheer presence of thousands of trained troops was still not to be underestimated.

The combined momentum of tens of thousands of soldiers could rival some sects' powerful formation arrays.

A Four-Star Dou Huang, supported by thousands of elite troops, was enough to make Mo Yu feel the pressure. The giant stronghold before him was like a formidable beast blocking his path.

Trying to find another way out of the Mu Lan Empire could still lead to ambushes from other experts of the Mu Lan Valley. Mo Yu would have to hide indefinitely, or wait until he reached the strength of a Dou Huang himself before making his move.

But without access to resources, even if he managed to break through to Dou Wang using the sealed energy that sealed in the Divine Qi Seal, reaching Dou Huang could take an unimaginable amount of time.

After thinking it over, Mo Yu decided that breaking through Mountain River Pass to reach the Jia Ma Empire was the best option.

"Flying over directly would be too risky. It looks like I'll have to try blending in. If that fails, I'll have to rely on you, She Lao," he whispered.

As his voice fell, She Lao's raspy, chilling voice echoed in his mind, "Rest assured, boy. If it's just a Four-Star Dou Huang and some troops, I can get you out of the Mu Lan Empire."

Mo Yu relaxed slightly and scanned the road below. Spotting a caravan traveling down the path, he quickly withdrew into the forest, disappearing from sight.

On the dusty road below, a group of about a hundred people moved in formation towards the distant, looming fortress. Judging by their uniform attire, they appeared to be from a mercenary group, a mid-sized force by the standards of the Mu Lan Empire.

Because of the Mountain River Pass's proximity to the border, the area was rife with mercenary activity. Some mercenaries preferred the chaos of the border to the safer but less lucrative paths of hunting magical beasts.

Though such ventures came with significant rewards, they also carried high risks. On the battlefield, a mercenary group of hundreds could easily be wiped out if they were not careful.

"So, this is Mountain River Pass..." Mo Yu murmured softly as the colossal walls came closer.

He had shed his purple robes that marked him as an weapon refiner and donned the more ordinary attire of a mercenary, hoping to use this caravan to slip out of the empire's final barrier.

The caravan rumbled forward, kicking up dust. As it neared the gates, Mo Yu glanced up at the space above the city walls, where faint, fluctuating energy waves were visible.

Clearly, this energy field was in place to detect anything attempting to fly through the area.

If he were detected, he would become a prime target, peppered by a barrage of specially crafted arrows from the military's enhanced bows and crossbows.

As the distance to the city gate grew shorter, Mo Yu's gaze settled on the towering structure. When he noticed the almost impenetrable defense at the gate, his brows furrowed tightly.

About a hundred meters from the city walls, the large group of riders gradually slowed and came to a stop. Two men emerged from the front of the mercenary group, leading their troops toward the gate.

These two seemed to be the leaders of the mercenary group. Judging by their familiarity with the guards, it was evident they had come to Mountain River Pass more than once before.

After chatting with the guards for some time, the cold-faced guard's hand moved slightly, as if the mercenary leader had slipped something into it. The guard hesitated for a moment, then nodded and signaled to those behind him. Soon, the barricades blocking the entrance were moved aside.

"Oh?"

Seeing that the guards didn't bother searching the group, Mo Yu raised an eyebrow. Even with a royal expert overseeing the area, such blatant disregard for the rules seemed risky—did they not fear retaliation from Mu Lan Valley?

Shaking his head, Mo Yu dismissed the thought. It was better to slip away unnoticed than to make a move.

He quickly lowered his head, hiding his face as he followed the group through the city gate.

However, just as the group was about to pass through the gate's entrance, Mo Yu's eyes caught sight of something above the gate—a small groove holding a fist-sized orb.

The orb appeared pale white on the outside, with a faint, mysterious glow emanating from within. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary orb, but a sense of caution suddenly rose within Mo Yu's heart.

As expected, when he was about three or four meters from the entrance, the originally pale orb suddenly lit up with a brilliant red glow. Its radiance immediately drew the attention of passersby and guards alike.

"Damn it, it's a Detection Orb!"

Upon seeing the orb, Mo Yu cursed inwardly.

The Detection Orb, a fourth-grade weapon, wasn't particularly high in quality, but it could detect the presence of certain individuals within a set range and emit a warning glow.

It seemed that the residual aura from Mo Yu's battle with the three Little Beast Kings had been detected by Mu Lan Valley, leading them to craft this weapon and place it at the borders of the empire, specifically waiting for Mo Yu to appear.

No wonder the guards had been so lax earlier—they had this hidden trump card in place.

The flashing red glow from the Detection Orb immediately triggered the alert of the fortress's guards. A burly bearded commander, clad in scarlet armor and likely a mid-tier Dou Shi, rode a tall unicorn-like horse and led a contingent of elite troops toward the gate.

"Hold! No one is allowed to leave the pass!" The bearded commander's voice boomed like thunder, immediately halting all movement from Mo Yu's group and everyone else attempting to pass through.

This command caused some discontent among the crowd, but no one dared to voice their complaints, intimidated by the imperial army's presence.

After halting the crowd, the bearded commander rode his unicorn forward, brandishing a black curved saber, and swept his hawk-like gaze over the gathered people.

When his eyes met Mo Yu's silver eyes amidst the crowd, the commander froze for a moment. The image of the person from the wanted notice, with those unmistakable silver eyes, flashed through his mind.

His expression changed instantly. Years of battle-hardened experience had honed his instincts, and almost reflexively, he squeezed his legs against the flanks of his unicorn, pulling both himself and his mount back rapidly. As he retreated, he shouted in alarm:

"Capture him! He is Mo Yu!"

Despite his swift reaction, his strength was only that of a lower-tier Dou Shi, and Mo Yu was quicker. With a cold laugh, Mo Yu's figure blurred, moving through space like a shadow. He closed the distance in a heartbeat, and his fist, like a bear's paw, shot out with lightning speed, landing heavily on the commander's chest. Blood spurted from the commander's mouth, and his face turned deathly pale.

Though the blow wasn't fatal, Mo Yu intended to follow up with another strike. But the bearded commander hastily retreated into the ranks of his soldiers.

"Swish! Swish!"

A dozen spears, glowing faintly with Dou Qi, thrust toward Mo Yu's head with swift and deadly force. Their movements were wide and ruthless, filled with a murderous aura. These were seasoned soldiers, survivors of countless battles—just their presence alone set them apart from ordinary warriors.

Mo Yu twisted his head, dodging the spears, but their assault momentarily stalled his offensive. Seeing the soldiers closing in from all directions, he furrowed his brows and retreated a few steps.

At the city gate, the onlookers were stunned by the sudden turn of events, especially when they saw the commander—normally the stronghold's guardian—being overwhelmed by a single blow. Their expressions grew increasingly bewildered.

"Mo Yu?! He's Mo Yu? The one who defeated the three Little Beast Kings?" someone in the mercenary group suddenly shouted, and immediately, fervent gazes followed. The voice wasn't filled with greed but rather a hint of admiration.

As the cry spread, the crowd erupted. Countless eyes filled with varying emotions locked onto Mo Yu. The most shocking topic in Mu Lan Empire recently had undoubtedly been Mo Yu.

"Boy, don't get cocky—this is Mountain River Pass!"

As the crowd's clamor grew, a powerful and aged voice suddenly echoed through the pass.

With the sound, a yellow glow appeared above the fortress, and at the same time, a terrifying aura spread from the glowing sphere, suffocating everyone present.

Even though the sun shone brightly above, the glow from the yellow sphere was no less intense than the sun itself.

When people squinted to make out the figure within the yellow glow, they couldn't help but exclaim in shock:

"Ancestor Mie Yan!"
