Chapter 81: Practice Run

After creating his spell Ezekiel was excited to try it out, if it worked the way he imagined then it should be very good at tearing armor apart but he would have to warn his allies against entering the aoe.

When approaching the first skeleton in the group he held his hand up in front of everyone.

"Hold back for a sec I just made a new spell before we came in and i think it would be bad if anyone was caught in it."

The others nodded and they seemed curious about what he would do.

When he cast the spell he was unable to launch it like normally and had to throw it himself.

The spell struck the skeleton in the chestplate and although the damage was small it had a significant impact on the elemental damage which coated it all over.

The shards of mana caused small cuts and the elemental fire inside began to burn the skeleton from the inside out.

He cast the spell twice more and they watched as the skeleton began to fall apart from the damage slowly building up.

The metal armor itself was in pieces as if it had rusted away but the metal still shined in the light, his spell worked albeit slowly.

"Well it worked..."

"Why did you make a spell that takes so long to take effect? That took at least ten seconds and you spent the whole time blocking it, you can kill them in one shot I've seen it."

Shade seemed more displeased by the result than the others, Hope was excited by him having a new spell while Layla was already discussing tactics for it.

'Well at least we can test it against the boss, it should be fine.'

He was using the spell as often as possible to have the team find the best ways around the effect to learn what they could do to handle the spell.

They took a few burns from it and he had to end the effect often so they wouldn't be torn apart.

The place where the spell shined was the groups of enemies, the spell only lingered for a second but in that time it would cause multiple enemies to be afflicted by the damage effect.

Once they reached the door they got in position but then they realized that their celestial companion was not really aware of what they were doing.

"Hey uh, just get behind us and try to watch out for the spikes ok? You'll understand when they start putting the code in."

Ezekiel motioned for their new companion to get behind them.

Once they were ready he put up his barriers with Hope beside him doing the same.

The code was able to be put in faster than before but with Thanatos as their ally it meant they had to put more effort into protecting him.

The first moment he was struck by shadow mana taught them an important lesson.

"GAHH FUCK MY ARM!"

They turned back and saw that his arn was shredded practically to the bone and Ezekiel with the help of Hope had to split their focus to heal it back.

"He doesn't have resistance to the damage! He's going to be screwed in there!"

As soon as Shade pushed the last rune of the password he began to yell about the stupidity of not coming prepared.

"He's going to be a liability, he might be the top player but this dungeon will fuck people up because of the element! You know how much pain shadow mana causes!"

"I know I know! Relax man, he wanted to see what the dungeon was like and i agreed to show him, some of us are barely at lv160 so this is not at all a real run ok?"

"Sorry everyone, I didn't know this element was so... painful."

Ezekiel shook his head and entered the boas room.

"Hey Thanatos you get your life affinity yet? So far all of us were able to thanks to this place so if you can too it would be great."

After hearing this the celestial nodded before sitting down to cultivate.

Ezekiel watched him and frowned at the technique but he had noticed everyone used a slightly different method that had to have been based on what was easier to imagine.

For himself it had become easier to simply imagine his core as an empty basin plunged into a body of water to be rapidly filled.

Such a rush of mana caused him slight discomfort but it was the fastest method he had used so far that got even better with higher mana density.

"So who wants to tell him what we know so far?"

Ezekiel turned to the group with an expectant smile.

After some back and forth looks Layla stepped up.

"So Diana is an archlich but she does more than magic, she also attacks with blades made of mana."

She did a small nod to Ezekiel and he looked at her strangely before he caught on, then he began to create a blade made from shadow mana while creating basic projectiles to demonstrate.

"She's a lot better at it than I am so be careful, she can create multiple blade projectiles and leave behind small trap based spell circles that either explode with shadow mana or stab you with life mana constructs."

Layla nodded and was about to speak when Thanatos gasped.

"We're fighting a spellblade?"

"Spellblade?"

As soon as he heard her reply he clapped a hand over his mouth while wincing then he spoke up again.

"A uh... a spellblade is like a magic swordsman. Usually they're mages that learned swordplay and are trying to either pass as a magus or they're trying to actually become one."

When listening Ezekiel was interested in that word, a word he had heard from NPC mages when he had been trying to get his class advancement done.

"I've heard the NPCs talking about that before, the magus, what is a magus?"

Thanatos put a hand on his chin and seemed to be thinking before he answered.

"Well a magus is like a master of both magic and physical skill, imagine the way you described the boss. She overwhelms you with hee physical superiority and her spells are able to catch you off guard to take you out, a magus would be the same way except they are able to enhance themselves with their own mana."

The group seemed quite interested by this revelation but Ezekiel especially liked this idea.

"So if I became a magus I could make bosses fall apart against my attacks while my spells shred them... that sounds really fun."

He had a sudden image of himself charging someone with claws made of void mana while leaving behind pockets of his frenzy bombs, his claws shredding his enemy apart and his frenzy wing spell ripping into their bodies to blow them to swiss cheese all before the enemy could react.

'I want to be a magus, I want to make enemies fall before my spells while they are too busy being torn open by my claws... I will be the Void Beast.'

'..... Oh my..... oh I'm going to enjoy this.'

When everyone had finished absorbing the mana in the room he activated the boss fight and immediately guarded himself against the explosive force of the coffin. Explore stories on m,v l'e-m|p y r

He then used his mana sense and activated everything he had, Corrosive Frenzy Wing, Corrosive Frenzy Bomb, Mana Burn, he created the claws he enjoyed so much and he even began to convert his mana into void mana.

All of this happened in the same instance as when he guarded himself so once the shrapnel was done he launched himself forward with a yell to start attacking Diana.

Alexander had to hide his face behind his shield to guard against the stone shrapnel but when the dust cleared he was astonished by what he saw.

Belial was in a one on one battle with the boss and they seemed to be trading blows quicker than he had anticipated the boss would do.

'A goddamn archlich, and not just an Archlich but a Vampiric one.'

That thing had somehow evolved in such a way that her Shadow affinity and Life affinity had merged into the Vampiric affinity which had lifesteal effects.

'An Archlich with a Lifesteal based affinity and she was a spellblade, this is a nightmare.... he doesn't even look like he knows how to fight a swordsman what the hell is going on.'

He watched in stunned silence as somehow Belial was pushing the boss back, his claw strikes were slashing against her but seemed to be held at bay by a green aura but that green aura was showing signs of breaking down.

His new spell as well as his strikes were causing the shield to take significant and constant damage but the more he watched the less he cared about the boss.

'I've seen that before, attacking someone with claws made from shadow... tearing them apart with no effort. Belial isn't even close to the skill level of that crazy assassin but it's clearly the same strategy...'

Alexander had a flashback to when he fought a hooded figure that rippes him limb from limb while all he ever saw were the burning red eyes of that person.

'The Kingslayer.'

---------------

Alright so i had previously asked everyone if they would rather Ezekiel learn to become a magus or stay as a pure mage and most people seemed to be excited for the magus but i did notice that a few seemed to be worried that if he were to do that he would be held back from his mage path.

I would like to set the record straight dear readers, if Ezekiel were to become a magus it would mainly consist of him learning actually physical combat techniques while using his spells to inflict even more damage.

As his combat technique is currently it is inspired by a special creature i hold close to my heart and if anyone can figure out which creature it is i will let them request a character made for them.

Enjoy the novel dear readers.
