Chapter 79: World Event

Players all across the the server were in their own paths, leveling up, crafting supplies, breaking down beasts, cultivating, training.

No matter what they were doing, even if they were in a dungeon or mid battle they all received a notification.

For those in active danger they had to wait until they were safe to check it but for those who were able to, they saw something that excited everyone.

~~~~~~~~~~
A World Event has begun!
Stage 1: Declaration.
Stage 2: ???
Stage 3: ???
Stage 4: ???
Stage 5: ???
The otherworlders of the celestial race have declared war upon the church of light in the name of the Goddess of Light, Luminous.
Players may select a side by joining the celestials that appear in the world or by joining the church.
In this stage of the event factions will be formed and alliances declared, in each stage the players will be granted rewards based on their impact to the stage.
~~~~~~~~~~

A war, apparently a holy war was beginning and players would have to choose their sides.

Messengers of clans left the game to receive word from the leaders, players rushed to the city centers to learn what the regions they lived in would do.

In every region that held a church the priests of the church of light came out to begin recruiting players while city leaders mobilized their best allies to find soldiers willing to take up arms.

In every single city that did not contain a branch of the church a gate opened and from these gates came the celestial players.

Since the celestial race players were automatically opposed to the church... mostly... they were the first that were spoken to.

Because the cities that had no connection to the church were open to each side to recruit the leaders of these cities were immediately approached by not only the clergymen of light but also the celestial players.

Since the stage of the war was so early the rewards for accomplishments were not the greatest.

With the celestial players they could earn titles by successfully gaining a city as an ally of the heavens, they would also gain rewards for every player they successfully recruited.

The more cities a player brought in as allies the more their title was upgraded and by brining in more players they could also upgrade their title but at a slower pace.

This title increased favorability with the celestial race while decreasing favorability with the church of light but it also increased stats when facing members of the church of light.

As for the players who joined either side?

They gained a recruits title, this title would do the same as the title given to players who recruited people but the recruit title was a lower grade that gave less benefits, they also gave less detriments.

What benefited the players the most was a sudden access to a shop that used points from a quest board given to each and every member of the new armies.

The quests given were mostly the same as they had been in the guilds of the game world but unlike those quests the rewards actually included experience.

By submitting a quest the player would gain currency, experience and they would gain reputation points for the army shop.

These quests were simple at this stage, quests that built up the reserve supplies of the army.

For the first few hours the players scrambled to get any foothold they could while the church began to sweep up hundreds of thousands of players into their army.

It would take time to learn the most significant danger when choosing a side in this conflict.

Player killing was enabled against players of the opposing faction.

Recruiting cities was also an arduous task as the celestial players not only had to compete with their opposition in the church but even if they successfully got the city to join they would have to return to the gate to get back to the celestial continent where their owneaders in the celestial NPCs were helping to organize this effort.

The NPCs could not directly interfere but they could pay for the gate's usage and tell the players which city they were going to.

Thousands of cities were brought under yhe celestial banner in a single day and the one eith the greatest influence was Thanatos, the divine paladin of Luminous.

It only took one look at his class to make most city leaders agree to join but for players it required telling them the perks.

By the end of the day Thanatos was in Raylock, he had expected that trying to meet the city lord would be difficult but the moment he arrived a woman brought him to the city square where the lord was waiting.

"I want to have my city join the celestial banner, the church of light murdered my aunt years ago and I want to make them suffer."

The lord kneeled down before the celestial player which had many gasping in astonishment, players and non players alike.

"We accept your city as a friend in our battle against the blasphemy of the church, may we speak in private? I must ask you about someone."

The lord nodded and led him into the city hall where they had a bit more privacy.

"Have you ever heard of a devil named Belial?"

Outside of the city a pair of demons were speaking to one another.

"Kira we need to bring him out of this place, you know that once the war begins the church wont be kind to those they've been trying to quietly hunt."

The demoness who had been training the group for the last two days nodded.

"Yeah yeah, but having some unique gear is an excellent opportunity for the guy you know? We should be happy that he will have a full set of unique gear by the time we get him home."

The demoness known as the ashbringer scoffed.

"Yeah and when he's kidnapped by the church? What happens then?"

She was growing enraged while speaking to her partner.

"Calm down Leya! You know this forest cant handle your rage!"

She smacked the Ashbringer in the back of the head while yelling.

"This city will be safe they already tried to attack it once remember?"

Leya grumbled and punched her sister in the arm as retaliation before sitting down.

"Just keep an eye out for attacks ok?"

With the arrival of this new event it had taken the focus off of the dungeon as players rushed to take part, the field was soon empty as more rushed to join the factions.

Inside of the dungeon players would eventually finish their runs and leave as well but one player ignored it all.

Ezekiel was curious about what this event could give but he was closing in on his goal of lv200.

He would have to rest soon and he planned to join at that point but he wanted to reach at least lv180 before he was to tired to function.

They only had two more days until yhe next server shutdown so he had to push himself further.

At one point when he left the dungeon he was surprised by the sight of an angel waiting there, an angel in magnificent armor.

'Oh I guess I can sign up now then.'

He approached the angel who seemed to also be walking towards him, he raised a hand in greeting before holding it out.

"Hey I'm a mage, I'm hoping to join the celestial side in this event?"

"Yeah you're Belial right?"

He nodded and began to look through the inventory of the reputation shop.

"The heavens could use a shadow mage, it would be the best way to punish the church. They're the reason shadow magic is illegal."

"You know im a shadow mage?"

'Ah crap how'd he figure it out?'

Thanatos began to laugh loudly at this reaction.

"Man you do realize that demons are the only ones in the infernal race that actually have skin colors that dont mean anything right? Devils are so deeply attuned to their affinity that they always have physical markers of it."

Ezekiel frowned before nodding.

"Yeah I guess, I did start out red and got darker with each evolution so it makes sense. What do angels evolve into?"

The angel player laughed and invited Ezekiel to his team.

"Come into the dungeon and I'll show you, I've never encountered this dungeon so tell me about it will you?"

Ezekiel nodded and as they entered he began to describe the history he knew of it.

"So apparently the boss is someone killed by the church of light, she had tried to join because of her high potential and talent with the life element but when she met the pope he executed her for being a shadow mage."

He killed skeletons as they progressed and Alexander didn't touch a single one so his ally could have all the experience.

"I don't really know how but she is the boss here, a vampiric arch lich."

When he heard this Alexander inhaled sharply.
